The S72 SMJHL Playoffs have begun, and it is time for Postseason Bonanza!

Wait! What's this?

Here's how PB will work: there are several tasks, each of which is worth varying amounts of TPE for putting in a little effort, for a maximum of 16 possible TPE total. You can mix and match, complete them in any order and do as few or as many as you would like (up to 16 TPE). Recreates, you will find this slightly different than CW. 

Here's how TPE will be earned:

For every 50 words you write about a prompt, you will earn 1 TPE. That scales on, so 100 words for 2 TPE, 150 words for 3 TPE, etc. If you wanted to 800 words about one prompt, that would be 16 TPE right then and there.

The graphics TPE scale has remained the same.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you can, please after every prompt you write about add a Word Count (ie. 150 words). This will greatly help the PT Team!

ONLY S72 SMJHL ROOKIES (S73 SHL DRAFTEES) CAN EARN TPE FOR CW TASKS. If you signed after the trade deadline and are going into the S73 SMJHL Draft, this TPE is not for you. 

You may claim affiliation from an (one, 1) ISFL, PBE or SSL PT this season for a max of 3 TPE.

7. Winner Winner Chicken
I am unapologetically confident in the Yukon Malamutes to win the Four Star Cup this season. The Yukon Malamutes have caught fire at the perfect time to go on a run - finishing the regular season 8-2. The Malamutes have continued such dominance into the playoffs, taking an early 2-0 series lead to the Anchorage Armada, securing a strong goal differential of 17-4, and seeing great contributions across the board. While the Malamutes have struggled against the highest seeded teams this season, many of those games came early in the season when the team was struggling to string wins together, and haven't happened since the sim learned to put some respect on the Malamutes' name. As for a couple of player specific game-changers:

1) Theodore Svatos: with Svatos having broken the franchise goals record this season, it's only reasonable to expect he is thirsty for the next achievement under his belt - and that achievement, at this point in the season, has to be the Four Star Cup. Svatos has played strong in the first two games, tallying 3 goals and 2 assists, with a 93 offensive game rating.

2) Jim Wen: Wen finished the regular season 8th in wins, 9th in GAA (5th amongst goalies who played 33 or more games/half the season), 9th in SV% (4th amongst goalies who played 33 or more games/half the season), and tied for 2nd in shutouts. Certainly expected to regress to the mean at some point this post-season, Wen has started his first 2 games exceptionally well - nevertheless, even a slight step up will put him in the top 3-5 player territory.

3) Jordan Tanner: I mentioned this pre-season predictions - in order for the Malamutes to succeed, Jordan Tanner needs to succeed. Well, Tanner finished 41st in the regular season for goals, and 19th for points. Although I anticipated Tanner to be the scorer over Svatos, Tanner's success has been instrumental to the team getting this far, and his success will be instrumental to the team continuing onwards. 

4) Kristian Seppanen: Obviously, the homer pick. But c'mon, Seppanen had a solid season, but needs to step up and have a good to great post-season if the team wants to win. Running 6 excellent defencemen out is a surefire way to ensure championship success. Seppanen already took a step forward in the first two games. Seppanen's game rating and overall stats are improvements over his regular season statistics - but most importantly, Seppanen went from being the only player in the league to play the full season and not score a goal to scoring the game winning goal to win Game 1 of the playoffs! With the dread of his lack of scoring lifted off of his shoulders, the sky Four Star Cup is the limit goal for Seppanen. 

5) Sydney Shaw: One of the team's best defencemen. Interestingly, Shaw hasn't had the strongest first two games, despite the team's overall success and despite her advanced stats showing great promise. This is a good sign, however - as if one of the team's strongest assets had "weak" performances despite the team's success, the team clearly still has a lot of potential and hasn't shown everything it is capable of yet. The team still has a lot to show, and a lot to prove to the league.

Another piece that I believe drives the Malamutes forward is the desire for success under the new logo for this season. What better way to show commitment to the cause than to go out and fight hard every night to ensure there's another night the logo can be shown and its meaning can be elaborated upon? What better way to ensure that people are reminded of this legacy than to have the logo hanging in the rafters for people to think about, learn about and reflect upon? 

Another piece that drives the Malamutes team forward is to rally our support behind those impacted by the wildfires in Yukon that have been raging on during this season. Each game, the Malamutes organization donates a percentage of the ticket sales to support those impacted by the wildfires, and the team feels great pride in this activity - and the team wants to continue pushing, raising awareness, and offering support for this initiative and ensuring those impacted are able to retain some "normalcy" after all of this. 

Lastly, and although all teams have players aging out of the SMJHL, I think another motivating factor for the team to succeed this season in particular is that the team has several core pieces aging out this season. Former team Captain, Sydney Shaw, and current team captain, Alvin Wong, are both aging out in addition to several other key pieces such as Sven Patterson - and what better way to honour them than to win them a Four Star Cup as well?

1. Fan Appreciation Day
In honor of the Kraken's strong season thus far, the first 5000 fans to the final home game of the regular season received a one of a kind commemorative Davy Jones style tentacle beard prop. They were a huge hit with the kids, but the adults had a hard time keeping ketchup and nacho cheese from sticking and dripping down the tentacles. (62 words)

2. Looking Towards the Future
The Carolina Kraken are poised to potentially step into the upper echelon of teams in the SMJHL next season. With up to 8 players reaching their TPE cap and only a few players aging out of juniors, there should not be many holes that need to be filled for this squad to move into a contention window for the foreseeable future. In particular, the centre depth looks to be sensational next season led by Timo Lambert, Derek Martin, Marton Diehm, and Aumy Junior II. These veterans are further bolstered by the past 2 rookie classes that have contributed this season to an already respectable 5th place finish. (107 words)

3. Secret Plans
The Carolina Kraken are partnering with Oscar Meyer to unveil the company's best ever hot dog to be served only at the home arena of the Kraken. The marketing hype will bring in thousands just to get a taste of these bad boys, but the true target is not gameday revenue. The plan is to offer several of these amazing hot dogs to the opposing team free of charge before games. As anyone knows, a real hockey player can not resist putting down three, four, even five dogs in a sitting. With this substantial brick of hot dog in their stomach, it's sure that the opposition will suffer significant losses in speed and stamina. (114 words)

4. Funtimes
These days, the corporate team building event of the moment seems to be escape rooms, so the Kraken are going to do their best to solve the puzzles and riddles to get out. The odds are slim though, as these are big dumb hockey players. In any case, hilarity will ensue. (51 words)

7. Winner Winner Chicken
As we enter the 2nd round of the SMJHL playoffs, the top four are rested up after their first round byes and ready for the survivors of round one. So who's gonna win it all and take the Four Star Cup? It's hard to look past the favorites Maine Timber and Vancouver Whalers who steamrolled through the regular season on their way to 94 and 93 points respectively. Both teams are balanced, star studded, and boasting goal differentials north of +115. It seems inevitable that these teams will collide in the finals where I would give a slight razor thin edge to the Timber on the back of their dynamic duo of William Tree and Nathan Cormier. Outside of the top two squads, a dark horse pick would be the Carolina Kraken. Look out for their league leading power play to get hot and lead to an upset over one of the big dogs of the SMJHL. (157 words)  

8. An Alternate Timeline
Rence Sykut of the Carolina Kraken loves hockey. But you know what he loves more than hockey? Repetitive menial labor. Yep, you read that right. As a proud Eastern European from the ex-Soviet bloc, Rence's DNA is infused with the willingness and ability to perform tasks that other people run from. Digging ditches? He digs it. Laying bricks? He'll lay it on ya thick. Arable land? He'll plow it. His hands may be soft on the ice, but off the ice they are calloused with generations of vodka drinking men and women that get down and dirty on some back breaking, ruthless physical tasks over and over again. (108 words)

12. On the Radar
Rence Sykut of the Carolina Kraken is coming off of a strong regular season in his first season of Junior hockey. The Riga, Latvia native made the the jump from Europe to an experience laden Kraken squad and managed to contribute on a club that finished 5th in the standings and secured a playoff berth. He managed to eclipse the 33 point mark, with 11 goals and 22 assists, which is impressive for a guy coming in with a pedigree of a strong defensive forward, but he has shown that he has playmaking and scoring abilities to round out his game. While his -6 on a strong squad may look like he struggled to keep pucks out of his own net, the underlying defensive analytics show a rosier picture. He ended the year with a TA/GA ratio north of 1.0, a total of 133 hits (which ranked 3rd on the team), and even a 69.4% faceoff win percentage when he had to step in to take draws His defensive prowess has even put him in consideration to see ice time playing defenseman at some point in the future to fill team needs. What's scary is if he can put up these numbers in only 16 minutes per game, then what does the future hold for this young player? Whatever SHL team takes this guy is no doubt going to love his work ethic and willingness to improve from the already strong first season in that he had in juniors. Be ready to see this guy tear up the J in the coming years on his way to the SHL. (269 words)

4. Funtimes

I have been as the Fun Director for the Regina Elks. I take on this role with many goals and ambitions. Here is what I plan to do in my new role.

Goals:
1)Increase fun in Elks organization.
2)Increase the elkyness.
3)Go back to goals 1 and 2.

Here is how I plan to acheive the above goals:

The Elks organzation will now host weekly tournaments with varying games such as: Ping Pong, Soccer, Basketball, Tennis, Volleyball, Baseball, Football, Badminton, Rugby, Golf, Swimming, Ice Hockey, Cricket, Table Tennis, Track and Field, Wrestling, Boxing, Gymnastics, CrossFit, Surfing, Snowboarding, Skiing, Bobsledding, Figure Skating, Synchronized Swimming, Equestrian, Archery, Fencing, Water Polo, Polo, Rowing, Canoeing, Sailing, Triathlon, Beach Volleyball, Curling, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Racketlon, Ultimate Frisbee, Dodgeball, Kickboxing, Powerlifting, Arm Wrestling, Darts, Tug of War, Chess, Poker, eSports, Judo, Karate, Taekwondo, Kung Fu, Karate, Kendo, Muay Thai, Capoeira, Sumo Wrestling, Paddleboarding, Roller Derby, Hurling, Lacrosse, Handball, Orienteering, Squash, Rock Climbing, Parkour, Trampoline, Paintball, Airsoft, Longboarding, Pole Vault, Hammer Throw, Strongman, Canicross, Sepak Takraw, Boomerang Throwing.

Also we will have holiday events:
Halloween:The Whole team has to dress up as an Elk or do a team costume
Christmas: There will be a secret santa thing where everyone on a team gets a person and they have to get a gift for that person.

We will also increase fan appreciation by giving away:Jerseys, socks, T-shirts, pucks ice scrapings, sticks, etc.

Also we will host a funny picture day where the team will take funny pictures.

if I was not drafted to0 the Regina Elk Organazation, i have a pretty good idea of where i would have ended up.

Thats right, I would be on team Mcdonalds. i would be frying some fries. Flipping some hambugers. Telling people the ice cream machine is broken. And... i would eat Chicken Nuggets all day. I know it would be against the rules, but who would be watching. I would just take a little nugget here and there while no one was looking, maybe some fries too. Life would be a dream.

i am you host John smith, a hockey reporter who likes to focus's on scouting and hockey!!

Today, lets talk about a sleeper prospect!

Drafted in the second round 21st overall by the Regina Elks [Drum roll please]... Mac Turner!

Fun Fact about Mac, his favorite food is mac n Cheese!!
Another fun fact, in mac's first preseason game he got in a fight!
Mac Turner proclaims himself to be a physical player first though hopefully those physical stats will pick it up in the following seasons.

Lets talk about Mac Turner's first season in the SMJHL. For the beginning of the season, Mac was RED HOT! Being a point peer game player one week into the sim (IRL). But then, like his team, Mac Fell off of his pace. He ended the Season with 45 points and only 183 hits. Though Mac Turner does have a decent 73 Defensive game rating. It should be noted that in the preseason, mac's physical numbers were higher tallying much more hits. This could be because of strategy or just the sim doing it simming things. In the playoffs, Mac had 3 points in 5 games and tallied 10 hits.

Forecast for the draft. here at On the Radar sports news does not expect mac to go in the 1st round. Expectations are Mac will be taken 2nd round and if he is lucky late 1st, Mac Turner could also drop to early 3rd round.
I think it will be interesting how Mac turner develops and we will see next season how he does in the SMJHL Good Luck Mac!

14. R&R
It was a tough playoff exit for Mac Turner and the Rgina Elks. After starting the season red hot, after the mid season slumber the Elks could never get back to top form. Mac and The Elks can only look to next year and prepare.
Here is what Mac is doing this offseason.

Healing from the past seasons woes:
Mac First spent a couple days just healing and resting. taking ice baths, cold/hot treatemnt, stuff like that.

Preparing for the next one:
After resting for a bit Mac was ready to go. Mac Turner trying out a fitness regiment that will see him lifting and getting stronger.
On the ice, Mac Turner is spending time working on his skating and his offensive ability. Hopefully next season we will see more of mac's physical game as well as improving on his offensive and defensive game.

The Draft:
Mac Turner is a prospect for the S73 SHL Draft. To prepare, mac spent some his rookie money on going to the tailor and getting some nice suits. Rest assured, Mac will be one of the better looking draftees.

Prospect Profile: Ondrej von Stoodrick

Ondrej was born in Mannheim, Germany but moved to Czechia at an early age. He was a late bloomer to hockey, only playing his first season when he was 12 and quickly rising the ranks to play for some well rounded u18 teams in Czechia. He was drafted to the SMJHL at number 25 overall to the Newfoundland Bezerkers in the second round, but out of 30 or so draftees, this is quite low.
Von Stoodrick is a left-handed left defenceman and at 6'2" weighs in at about 200lbs [187 cm, 90.7kg]. Stoodrick played a full 66 games in the SMJHL scoring 3 goals, 24 assist for 27 points, not too bad for a rookie defenceman. He played mostly on the second line, but ended the season on the first line, earning some big time minutes for the Berzerkers.
For a 6'2" prospect, his skating is about what you would expect. He his top speed isn't very high but he can pivot and accelerate quickly with his strong legs. He skates with a low center of gravity, helping him protect the puck and not get knocked off of it. It also helps him win battles on the boards for the puck. His pivots allow him to switch from offense to defense quickly allowing him to position himself well, and vice versa, he can switch to offense mode quickly, and dish out the puck to a forward.
He is very safe with the puck. He rarely turns it over and is excellent at creating a breakout pass to start a rush. Once in the offensive zone he could use some work. He tends to sit back and has a hard time getting open to create any chances. His shot isn't particularly hard or accurate, and his one-timer is similar. In these situations he has a defense first mentality, ready to skate backwards and attempt to kill a rush, or if he does get the puck, he holds onto it until he finds a good passing lane. His agility lets him walk the line well and help find one of the openings for a teammate.
On defense, he takes advantage of good positioning to cut down prime shooting angles and herds opponents to the outside, where he shines at using his strength to pin and win puck battles. One major issue is he struggles with discipline. He took 30 bad discipline penalties, many coming in situations near the board like 9 holding penalties, 7 tripping penalties, and 4 high sticks. If he could learn to toe the line in the board scrums better, he could prove to be a very valuable defenseman in the SHL. Once defending in the cycle, he could use some work. He plays quite passive, just positioning himself to block a shot. In this regard he does a good job of being in a good position, but he could better use his body and to be more physical and make room for his goaltender.
He ate a lot of minutes for a rookie this season in major juniors, playing a mix between second and first line minutes, clocking at an average of 21:55. At just under 22 minutes a night he comes in at 4th on the Newfoundland Bezerkers, and 1st of the left defensemen on the team. Despite his inexperience the team had no choice but to lean heavily on him, and I'd say he succeeded. While his individual offensive numbers weren't great, while on the ice he allowed his d-partner and forwards to excel. He boasted a 4.0 goals for per 60, ranking 3rd among rookie defensemen, however his goals against per 60 was also 4.0. This makes sense when you look at his +/- of 1. While this is the middle of the road compared to other rookie defenseman, these numbers could be improved. Given his circumstances, things could be a whole lot worse and he did well in the role he was assigned.
When compared to the other rookie defenseman, his numbers are fine, and he likely lands ranked somewhere in the top 10 of them. He's tied for 5th for total points, and third for average time on ice. When looking at stats like this, you'd expect him to be at least top 5, but its time to break the 4th wall. Ranked by tpe of rookie defencemen, he comes in 12th-- fourth from last. TPE means quite a lot, and overall the more tpe means the player will be more consistent, so long as the points are allocated well. Because of this I can see scouts rating him lower than he otherwise would be. This is why I project him be drafted in the second round, after the top several defensive prospects have left the board already.
To recap:
Ondrej von Stoodrick played big minutes and held his own in the SMJHL. His offense wasn't top notch but he allowed the rest of his line to succeed. His defensive play is fine and relies on already being in the right position. He's good at pivoting from offense to defense (and vice versa) so this isn't a problem. He is strong on the puck and great at battling on the boards, however, he needs to improve on his discipline in these situations. Given a few years of growth he could make a great asset on any team.

Sad Ketchup is a young forward from the Newfoundland Berserkers of the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League. The young forward was drafted 13th overall in the Season 72 Simulation Major Hockey League draft. Sad Ketchup was drafted as a left winger but was converted to center by the Newfoundland Berserkers coaching staff. He just finished his rookie season in the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League playing a new position and in a new league.

Sad Ketchup is an offensive dynamo who is known for putting the puck in the net and having a high offensive IQ. His greatest strengths are his puck handling, ability to find open net, and being in the right place at the right time along with his balance and strength on his skates and the puck. This can be proven by his impressive offensive scoring output this season of 32 goals and 38 assists for 70 points in 66 games. Sad Ketchup placed top 5 in rookie scoring and was able to put up a solid faceoff percentage of 55 percent in his first season playing center in his career.

Ketchup's weakness has always been his defensive game and lack of physicality. He has always been known to cheat in his own zone and leave some to be desired in his defensive game. His season was not terrible defensively with 40 takeaways, 17 blocked shots and 112 hits but it could be improved. The defensive game is an area where Sad Ketchup will need to improve in his time in the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League before he makes his way up to the Simulation Hockey League. Some scouts argue that the physicality part of Ketchup’s game will not hold him back as he has the skating ability to get away with no throwing his body. The defensive game is what scouts believe could sink the young forward if he chooses to not to put in an effort to improve.

In terms of teams in the Simulation Hockey League, teams who are looking at Sad Ketchup as a prospect would be banking on the offensive output outweighing the potential risks in the defensive game. Many players are able to put up acceptable defensive seasons and be atop of the Simulation Hockey League scoring. The risk is that teams drafting Ketchup could be getting a power-play specialist which in today’s SHL is not that useful as the game has grown and most successful players have strong two-way games.

Another strong reason teams may be looking at Sad Ketchup is the agency Sad Ketchup is a part of. Ketchup’s agency has a history of bringing over strong talents who had some success at the SHL and have even been top of the earning charts. Something to consider is none of those talents have ever won any awards or been on the top of the league scoring charts, so maybe some teams may see that as a red flag.

It’s hard to say where Sad Ketchup will end up or where he could be projected to go as there is a lot of talent in the draft, it will be interesting to see how SHL teams value Sad Ketchup the player as he is definitely could be a boom or could be a bust depending on how much effort he puts into working on his weaknesses.

For recreates, how was doing this new version of CW compared to the old one? Was the experience better, or worse? How were the PT changes? For first gens, you can also talk about your experiences with PTs in general too this season!

As a recreate who has not done point tasks in awhile I did not really notice a difference in the point tasks personally, it seemed about the same to me, they are a task after-all.
I will say I enjoyed the Bonaza tasks especially being able to have freedom to write about my own player rather than having to write about players or teams I don't care about who are in the final. I enjoyed the new changes and it felt less like a "task" to me than the Championship Week's I was used to being an older recreate. I thought it was a nice change and didn't take too long for me to do. Overall, I the point tasks felt fine and were relatively easy to do, so no complaints from me Smile

Introducing the *drumroll*... "Falcon Frenzy Bobble Bonanza"! Yeah, you heard it right – these ain't your grandma's bobbleheads. These bad boys are like mini works of art, featuring our favorite players doing their thing on the ice, complete with head-nodding action that's so hypnotic, you might just start nodding along without realizing it. But that’s not it. If you throw it hard enough, the bobblehead sprouts wings and SKREEEES at people. You can keep it as a souvenir or torture your friends with it.

Now, peeking into the crystal ball, strategic moves are a must for the Detroit Falcons. Maintaining their stellar draft record, much like their successful recent seasons, remains a cornerstone. 12. On the Radar

Swedish winger Nick Larsson began his SMJHL career in the Season 72 draft, where the Vancouver Whalers selected him with the 38th overall pick in the 3rd round of the draft. Nick Larsson is a freak athlete, though on the shorter end for a hockey player at only 5'9, he weighs in at 300 pounds of pure muscle. Overall, Larsson is a physically gifted winger who plays a well rounded game on both ends of the ice. He was able to skate before he even knew how to walk, though you wouldn't be able to tell by watching him on the ice, where he is not particularly graceful. Though he has decent top end speed and stamina for this level of hockey, he is not the most agile player on the ice, but he has solid strength and was the most aggressive player on the Whalers roster last season, for better or for worse. Scouts have also determined that has potential to be a solid fighter, yet he has not gotten into any fights at the SMJHL level. Though he is an outwardly aggressive player according to the underlying numbers, he plays a very responsible game, with only 22 penalty minutes the entire season, which was last on the Whalers for anyone who played all 66 games.

On the offensive end of the ice, Nick Larsson is a very balanced player. Though he is not great at any one thing, he is solid at just about every facet of the offensive game. While playing in limited minutes on the third line of a very strong Vancouver Whalers squad (that finished just one point shy of first place in the regular season), Nick Larsson put up 16 goals and 34 assists for 50 points in the 66 game season. Though these numbers don't jump off the page they are decent numbers for a rookie in his situation and they indicate how he plays the game. As a pass first winger, Larsson was able to successfully set up his teammates for goals throughout the season, while also proving that he could contribute the occasional goal of his own. Also worth noting is that Larsson got little to no powerplay time during the season so all of his scoring had to be done at even strength. He finished the season with a plus minus of +29, and as most people know, plus minus is kind of a useless stat but it is worth mentioning that Larsson had a strong season in that category. From the circle, Larsson only won a meager 45% of his draws taken, but as a winger, he is not expected to take faceoffs at the next level, so this is not much of a concern for his development. Also a bit of an issue was Larsson's high giveaway numbers, as he had 44 giveaways compared to only 25 takeaways, showing that his puck possession may be a bit of a red flag.

On the defensive end, Nick Larsson was a solid, yet unspectacular contributor. As a relatively low IQ player, Larsson has a hard time with defensive positioning and lacks an ability to make the proper read consistently in his own zone. Other than that, he is an ok defender with respect to his checking and shot blocking abilities. Where he is stronger on the defensive end is in his physical play. Possibly due to his low center of gravity and muscle mass, Larsson had 178 hits during the season, which was good for 5th overall on the Whalers. However, as a defensive winger, one would be expected to be an effective shot blocked, but Nick Larsson is yet to prove he is anything special in that category, with only 33 blocks through the entire season, something that he will surely want to improve as his two way game develops. Though his defensive game is not yet fully developed, Larsson got the opportunity to play on the Whalers third penalty killing unit for much of the season. This shows confidence in the abilities of the young forward, who has plenty of potential to take a step forward in his defensive game in the future. He will likely gain higher responsibilities on the penalty kill moving forward if he shows a desire to continue developing as a complete player.

Overall, Nick Larsson is a well rounded player who is solid, yet unspectacular in most aspects of the game, both offensively and defensively. As a physical, pass first winger who is able to contribute on the defensive end, Larsson has potential to take his game to the next level, but continued development is necessary before he can truly become elite. This is especially true on defense, where Larsson can sometimes look lost and out of the play. Despite this, he has all the physical tools necessary to take this next step, he just needs to let his mind catch up to his body, as his hockey IQ is not yet where it needs to be.

I know history isn't everyone's favorite thing to discuss, but a team's past can really define its identity, what its known for and who they are in the present. Tell us about your team's past! Have there been any franchise defining moments that are integral to your team or even SHL history? Conversely, is there some interesting tidbit that not many around the league know?

Back when I joined the site, the Kelowna Knights were truculent. This was a physical team that fought but still played with enough skill to trade chances. It had legendary, famous, and infamous players don her green and gold. But THE franchise defining moment was winning 3 straight 4 Star Cups to open the S40s. They are the first team on the site to do it. To me, that is huge. Even if it has been so long since then. Now, Kelowna is still feisty but they were the lowest hitting team in the league. Also the least penalized. Kelowna is a hard working team now that excels at stealing the puck off of the other team. (117 words)

Pre-Draft Outlook: Brooklyn Physt 5'11" 162lbs Defense.

Exerpt from a pre SMJHL Scouting report: "Brooklyn is a smooth skating, left handed defender with explosive speed. Relishes in the freedom to bring the puck into the offensive zone, utilizing her strong puck handling before either dishing smart passes or rifling her own shots.

Solid play in her own zone with both the drive and understanding that it will need to be improved before making the show.

Strong and pugnacious. It should come as no surprise that the daughter of Bruising blue liner Richard Physt has a mean streak that has played a hand in her ability to out compete young men.

Her final year she scored 26 goals and 59 assists in 58 games for the Kitchener Kings. Teams won’t want to wait long to pick up this young offensive powerhouse to help run their power play."

These things have proven to hold true for Brooklyn who is a smooth and strong skater who loves to bring the puck out of her own zone. Possesses high hockey IQ to remain positionally sound. She is not afraid to be physical but prefers to use her speed, positioning, and active stick to take the puck off the opposition. Her 28 points in her rookie season in the SMJHL were 4th amongst rookie defensemen. Cresting 100 shot blocks and hits show an all round game that has been able to be translated to the SMJHL and bodes well for the future. The +/- suffered due top being tasked with shouldering the load for minutes. Being asked as a rookie to lead the team in Ice time speaks volumes toward her work ethic, maturity, and leadership skills. Management trusts her highly both to handle the pressure and come up big when it matters most. For the most part well disciplined but willing to fight, having collected 1 fight this season. With Brooklyn you are getting a future top pairing defenceman who will be a workhorse logging minutes, strong in her own zone, with a strong offensive upside. Should be a challenger in the future for the Scott Stevens and a key piece for future championship aspiring teams. (362 words)

13. Superstitious
In the NHL there’s a well known superstition that any team that touches their conference championship trophy won’t win the Stanley Cup. Are there any superstitions like that in the SMJHL playoffs? If so, what are they? Where do they come from? Does your player believe in them? Why or why not?

I don’t think I have ever heard of that kind of superstition in the SHL. I’ve been here since S38 and the only things I can think of are that certain people in certain discords have their own personal superstitions. That said, I am a Mariner by trade and we are a superstitious lot. I just remembered 1 SHL superstition that has transcended STHS and into FHM. NEVER EVER change your attributes when your player is playing well. The number of people who swear by this has astounded me in each of my 33 full seasons. (117 words)

14. R&R
It's almost officially the offseason. Whether you just won the cup or didn't even make it past the first round of the playoffs, it's time to take a break and look toward the SHL draft. Tell us how you're spending your time this offseason, whether it be with family or friends.

Brooklyn is probably going to spend time enjoying her summer in ways she usually does. Working out at the outdoor home gym that her father made. Swimming in Lake Simcoe and sun tanning on the beach. Keeping and riding horses on their ranch as well as throwing haybales. Time for sure will be spent in and around Kelowna with the team. British Columbia has some of the most beautiful natural environments for someone to explore. Talk about team bonding opportunities. Of them, hiking and camping are fantastic ways to relax and get away from all the noise of where she might be drafted to and at what spot. Who is in the running for a smart, fast offensive defenseman with a knack for picking players pockets. Time will tell. (129 Words)

Although your career may still be in its early stages, it's still a great time to think about the future. What are some goals you have for your career, or some personal goals for the site? Are you striving for a HOF induction? Getting a site job?

Both the space before the SMJHL Draft and through your rookie year, culminating in the SHL Draft make for a wonderful and exciting time. Most players are looking ahead to how they want their player to play, where they want their player to play, how they are hoping to do. For me, i'd love to finally have a Hall of Fame player. To do that, gotta get more frequent award nominations as well as winning the Challenge Cup finally. Its a thing I have yet to do in what will be 6 years this November. As always for myself, I strive to have my players play the style of game I thought about having them play. For Richard Physt it was this Big, Mean, Physical, Defensive Defenseman designed to shut down the opposing team and allow the rest of his team to do the scoring largely. Brooklyn is kind of the opposite. More flashy and offensively inclined, while using positioning and an active stick to strip people of the puck. (170 Words)

I have to be honest. One of my most favorite tasks from the old Champion's Week style PT here was the four series narrative blurbs. You could do up to 4 at 50 words a pop per TPE. They felt just immensely attractive because the threshold for word count was such a low and inviting bar. (50 odd words)

During their first home game of season 73, the Colorado Raptors are planning a free t-shirt night. The t-shirts have been designed by the Raptors star left winger Jussi Mutou and will feature the names of every roster player to suit up for the team in the previous season. On the front of the shirt will be the team logo with the words “Raptors Find a Way” written underneath. Fans will get the opportunity to customize their shirt with a name and number when they purchase tickets online up to 5 days before the game. “I know the season didn’t go the way we planned, but I still hope to see a packed house for our home opener, and this is our way of showing thanks to the fans.” Says Mutou. “I would love to see many fans wearing the shirt I designed in future games as well. Maybe make it a sort of tradition here in Colorado. He continued.

The Raptors have a great young core with the likes of right winger Xavier Beausoleil, left winger Jussi Mutou, and defencemen Update Portal, Nik Smith, Liam Rodgers, and Valerija Serapin. Assuming Mutou and Beausoleil continue being solid offensively on the wings, the team looks to have a solid top line if they find a true number 1 center to play between them. Aside from that, a stud goaltender would really help the team score some more wins in season 73. Defensively, the team will be fairly solid next season if all players progress as they should. 4 rookie defencemen situates them as a solid team going forward.

Jussi Mutou has the perfect plan going forward. It’s not even against the rules or anything. Using a card game from his home country, Jussi Mutou plans to challenge the best players on opposing teams to a “battle”. Of course, Jussi is undefeated at this particular card game. I’m sure you’re wondering how this helps Colorado get the upper hand. Well, the loser of this card game gets sent to a mystical “Shadow Dimension” where their souls are trapped, leaving their bodies nothing more than empty husks. Obviously, an empty husk is not very good at hockey. Mutou believes this will help Colorado go 66-0-0 in season 73.

Now, everyone is looking for some sort of fun activity where you all can spend an afternoon or day to chill, hang out and build some team spirit. Especially after a long and stressful season, what are your plans to ensure everyone has a great time?

Jussi Mutou is the perfect choice for the Colorado Raptors Fun Director! Over the course of a month, 2 times a week, the team would meet for a super secret activity. Each player gets paired up with another teammate and together, they must come up with an activity to do with the entire team. For example, Jussi has paired himself up with fellow winger James McAvoy. Together, they’ve decided to do a “Christmas in July” activity. The whole team gathers and decorates Christmas cookies. They follow it up with a game of “Secret Santa” where the players have to present a pre-bought and pre-wrapped gift (done by Mutou and McAvoy) to another player, with their reasoning why they “picked” that gift. Of course, all other players have no idea what’s in each box.

7. Winner Winner Chicken
At the end of the day, what we all really strive for is the Four Star Cup. It takes everyone's best efforts, an unrelenting determination to win and hard work to be able to hoist the glorious trophy. Out of the 12 teams in playoffs, who do you think will win the 4 Star Cup? Are you going for the clear favorites, or the underdogs? Give reasons to justify your prediction.

I believe the St. Louis Scarecrows have a solid chance at taking home the Four Star Cup. Their team is incredibly solid from top to bottom and are coming in quite hot. They finished the regular season 3rd overall in the league with the 3rd best goal differential behind only the Maine Timber and the Vancouver Whalers. They’re also a team with solid home/away numbers. While it is great to have a player finish top 10 in points, St. Louis is a team with very good depth. Add a great season by goalie Kay Lee, and you’ve got a recipe for a championship team.

8. An Alternate Timeline
If you weren't playing for your current team, which team would you most like to be playing for in the playoffs.  Explain why you chose that team and how you think you'd slot into their roster.  Would your player make a big impact on the team?  Would you improve their chances of winning a cup?

In an alternate universe, Jussi Mutou might find himself playing for the Anchorage Armada or Regina Elk. Both teams picked right between the Raptors two draft picks in the 2nd round. For the Armada, Mutou would likely slot into the 2nd line alongside center Joseph Reed, and right wing Bongo. It’s unlikely Mutou puts up as many points playing less minutes with Anchorage. But he would definitely help with the wing depth of Anchorage. For Regina, Jussi Mutou would likely slide down another line and play 3rd line left wing. With bottom 6 minutes and not much Powerplay time, it’s unlikely Mutou finishes near the top of the rookie leaderboard. But having a dynamic offensive player on their third line would surely help Regina reach the top of the leaderboard.

Oh Say Can Jussi?

Meet Jussi Mutou, a dynamic offensive left wing born in Finland and hailing from Japan. After coming overseas to America to bring his brand of physical hockey to the SMJHL, Mutou has torn up the league. Let’s run down the stats, shall we? Mutou finished atop the rookie leaderboard in points, and goals. He was 10th amongst rookies in assists. He lead all rookies in total shots taken. He finished 3rd amongst rookies in hits. This is a dream player that every GM would want on their team. High offensive upside with heavy physical play to wear down the other team is definitely a plus.

He did finish with a +/- stat of -39, but it is tough to tell if poor defensive numbers is a result of rookie experience and a fairly poor team overall. But Mutou has plenty of time to work on those details before an eventual SHL call up.

Despite Bobby's best efforts the plushie of north ends up looking like it just got of a week bender and has lost all hope for life. Despite the cursed looking dog Bobby still loves the plushie dearly. The first home game is always and exciting event so, Bobby would choose the first game in which Yukon played St. Louis. The fans would be horrified and many kids would be scared for life by seeing how awful this plushie is.

2. Looking Towards the future

Yukon is unfortunately has four key players leaving next year Alvin Wong, Furious Chicken, Sydney Shaw and Sven Petterson. That's one forward whos a winger and then three defenceman. With last years draft and waivers Yukon picked up their starting goalie, three forwards who all play center and one defenceman. So I would say Yukons biggest strength is down the middle with three active centers in Bobby Tkachuky, Florian Soderberg-Motyla and late addition Vyacheslav Shevchenko all having strong rookie season. Strong seasons from Jordan Tanner and Theodore Svatos who lead the league in goals, gives Yukon a dangerous first line that can light up any team in the league.  I would also say getting a starting goalie in last years draft is another strength. This leave Yukon's biggest need being defenceman! Luckily Yukon took Kristian Seppanen in the last draft so we have someone to fill one of the three holes that will be left in Yukon's lineup. I would be shocked if Yukon didn't draft at least one defenceman if not two.

3. Secret Plans

Well I guess these secret plans won't be so secret anymore. The first thing we will be doing in Yukon is remove all the mats around the away dressing room. We will force the visiting team to walk across the concrete floors on the way to the ice. This will ruin all the visiting teams skates and make them have dull blade. If visiting teams get smart and start putting their skates on at on the bench we will replace the bench floor with concrete flooring. Yukon will also use its secret training regime of praying to our gods! The power of the three Yukon god Ebebeb, Monke and Cod Father will help smite down our opponents will blessing the whole Yukon team for better results. Since there isn't much to do in the Yukon (I assume) the whole team will also have free alcohol and drugs at every practice to keep team moral high.

4. Funtimes

Bobby Tkachuky loves to have fun so he would make a great fun director. Since Bobby is a pretty simple person he would start by renting out a bar or arcade that allowed drinking. We would have live music voted on by the team, so it could be a DJ or a band Bobby would vote band. There would be lots of alcohol and drugs to go along with the party. We would have every arcade game imaginable and would encourage  betting when versing each other. Speaking of gambling we would get a live dealer for poker and blackjack along with some slots to blow all your money on! Since not everyone like loud noises or need a break from time to time, Bobby would have designated rooms separate from the party. There would be a chill room with comfy couches to relax and smoke on. Then there would be a room with TV's so people can chill and watch TV, movies or  watch sports. Of course there would also be food available like burgers, pizza, steaks and some vegetarian option since Bobby isn't sure if everyone eats meats. We would also make sure there is lots of snacks like candy, chips and popcorn along with some non alcoholic options for none drinkers.

5. Superlatives
 
This will be done as yearbook awards for the Yukon Malamutes team! First award is a super easy and simple one class President! This award goes to Mr. President aka Kristian Seppanen! Yes this is a super easy one to do and totally a cop out for free words to write.... so just get over it already ok! Second award is the Michael Scott award and this goes to none other than Eggscracker aka Alvin Wong! The reason Eggy gets this award is because he normally finds a way to make things sexual if not even remotely sexual at all like Michael Scott. If you don't know who Michael Scott is he is a character for the show The Office. That also means you haven't seen the show and are missing out on one of the greatest shows of all time. Third award is the stop making me hungry award and this goes to Fluw aka Florian Soderberg-Motyla! Fluw always post pictures of the delicious food his wife and him make and it always makes me really hungry! Ps I think Fluws wife does most of the work, if I'm wrong I'm genuinely impressed since I can cook to save my life! Forth Award is the Wednesday Addams award and that goes to none other than Badwolf aka Sydney Shaw! The reason for this award is simple Badwolf comes off super innocent and nice, but she would defiantly stab a bitch if they pissed her off. Ps please don't hurt me Badwolf! You're genuinely super nice and extremely helpful also I don't wanna die! Fifth award is the David Blaine award and this goes to Jtanner aka Jordan Tanner! Tanner gets this award simply because he pops in and then leaves the next second! I do wish Tanner would come around more since he carried me for over half the season and seems like an awesome person. Sixth award is the something's fishy award and this goes to Big Newff I don't know Big Newffs players name since he's no longer on the team and gone to a forever home :( This award is simple because Big Newff pops in to share fish photos. This has resulted in Yukon's third cult being formed, All hail the Cod Father! The Seventh award is the Memer award and that goes to Leppish aka Jim Wen. Leppish gets this award because he always uses emotes and Gifs his favorite seems to be monke and is a strong worshiper of the Monke God. Eighth award is the why you got to live
 live in Europe award and this goes to Furious Chicken aka Furious Chicken! This award is simple why does Chicken need to live in such a different time zone :( this isn't meant to be anything negative about Europeans and honestly every European seems to be super nice and that's not something I can say about every person I've meet from North America. Ninth award is the yes sir award, this goes to Empol aka Ray Alexander yes I know the character name even though Empol has gone to their forever home. This award is simply because I remember saying something in chat and Empol simply goes "to bad I'm the coach" lmao so I just had to simply agree after that.

Topic 1: I think one really fun giveaway for the Vancouver Whalers would be partnering with NERF (they probably have offices/presence in Vancouver right?) and giving the first 10,000 children NERF brand harpoons. These would be non-dangerous, but would be a fun thing for kids to get engaged with the game! You know one of the hockey teams has a night where people throw thousands of teddy bears on the ice? Well this is similar, but instead kids will be shooting toy harpoons at the opposing team! Imagine playing against the Whalers and suddenly you see thousands upon thousands of miniscule toy spears coming at you. Although they won't hurt, they might distract you - and the Whalers will have won the mental game from that point on.

Topic 3: To spiritually train in life, people usually meditate under waterfalls until they realize deep meaning. For the Whalers, the team won't be sitting under a waterfall, but will do a similar thing to become one with the ice that they skate on. The team in the offseason will be headed to the north pole, the ice capital of the world! They will thrive in subzero temperatures, and achieve hockey enlightenment through this ordeal. The team will also work on their physical attributes along with the mental stress, as they will have to fight off rabid polar bears and rogue penguins to ensure their own safety.

Topic 4: For the most relaxing day off in team history, I will set up a videogame pentathlon for the members to compete in. Although the rest of the team may not be gamers, I think hockey skills (reaction time, fast twitch muscles, quick decision making, teamwork) would translate perfectly to a variety of video games. I have selected the following games for the team to play and eventually crown a winner:

1. Rocket League, this 3v3 mode will showcase teamwork, and improve team chemistry. Each fleet of skaters could fight against the other fleets to see who is the best at communicating and working together.
2. Fall Guys- this game is the complete opposite, and will showcase the players' ability to adapt to varying circumstances. Anyone could win at this game, the playing field is extremely level.
3.Yahtzee - yes, it can be a video game, and yes i'm going to be including it in this competition. Any player needs a certain amount of luck, and we need to see who the luckiest player would be.
4. Valorant - We can't have a video game competition without a shooter! This 5v5 mode would also allow for team communication between offense and defense.
5. Warioware - The epitome of fast twitch games, this requires team members to think incredibly quick on their feet and make fast decision.
6. Animal Crossing: New Horizons - I'm a sucker for a fishing minigame, this just requires accurate button presses and quick reaction time. Very simple to learn/pick up.
7. Baldur's Gate 3: This game allows for a lot of creativity defeating enemies, and would require players to think extremely ahead. The winner of this game would be the player who discovers the most creative way to kill a certain boss.
8. League of Legends: In hockey, players must be able to keep their cool at all times. What better way to test that than throwing the players into the most toxic community on Earth? The winner of this would be whoever rages the least.
9.Slapshot Hockey - A really difficult game to pick up, almost QWOP like in its mechanics, this hockey game is a 3v3 game where it is really difficult to control your player. This will test the players' game sense to see if they can make up for their own lack in skill of controlling their player.
10. Going Up - Whoever makes it up the highest on the seemingly endless tower of doom will win this game. However, if you make one wrong move, this could easily have you fall all the way back to the start. This would test players' resiliency, as well as how easily they get angry.

6. Team History
I know history isn't everyone's favorite thing to discuss, but a team's past can really define its identity, what its known for and who they are in the present. Tell us about your team's past! Have there been any franchise defining moments that are integral to your team or even SHL history? Conversely, is there some interesting tidbit that not many around the league know?

Great Falls Grizzlies are young team, entering the league for season 61, at the same time as Regina Elk did. They finished their first season with 30 wins and 62 points and taking their first playoffs series win against the St. Louis but then losing to Vancouver. Still all in all that was relatively good start to franchise and notably slightly better one than their expansion partner had.

Next season Grizzlies ended up with 38 wins and 77 points finishing 8th in the leagues, which was improvement from the last seasons 9th place finish. After such improvement in regular season points Grizzlies unfortunately lost to Nevada Battleborn in four games.

As we move on to next season we have arguably the best season of the Grizzlies to date and high point for young franchise. They finished third on the league with 86 points, though that was 15 points behind the second place Maine. Still they were in good spot for playoffs with first round bye and then beating Anaheim in 5 games and Kelowna in 6 making it to finals for first time only after three seasons. Unfortunately they were not able to beat the Newfoundland Berserkers who had also been best team of regular season with 118 points and instead lost to them in 5 games.

After three seasons of improvements Grizzlies see themselves falling for first time as they finish the 10th in league with just 64 points, which is still better than their first season but is very noticeable drop from the third spot of the last season and this was also first time they missed the playoffs as they finished 4th in their division.

Season 65 sees them dropping even further finishing with 46 points at 11th place. After such bad season they still make an appearance in playoffs but there isn't much to be written about the 4 game loss to St. Louis.

Season 66 doesn't bring much of improvement for the Grizzlies as they only win one more game for total of 23 wins and 48 points. While they were in division of 4 teams they actually finished 2nd in that division and met their expansion companion on first round of playoffs, which they unfortunately ended up losing in 5 games, making it already 3rd season since their finals appearance that they hadn't made it past the first round.

Interestingly for season 67 they only drop by 3 points but they finish second to last in the league, but due the division seeding from last season they still make an playoffs appearance taking two games of the Maine who end up winning the cup but once again not going further than the first round.

Season 68 is once again improvement on points, even if slight one, to 47 to be exact yet they finish last in the league and are out of the playoffs and it has already been 5 seasons since their last actually good season. While J careers are short and there is some turnover from season to season between team being closer to bottom for this long isn't exactly best outlook for the team.

Which then turns around for the next season as season 69 Grizzlies finish 4th in the leagues with 89 points, their best season for points so far and only one point behind the Maine who finished second. With such good regular season performance they manage to get bye for the first round but end up losing to Quebec (who end up winning the cup) in 7 games, keeping their playoffs lose streak going.

For next season we see slight drop to 5th place with 39 wins and 82 points, finishing second in their division only behind Nevada. This means that they get to play in first round of playoffs from pretty good position and manage to win their first series since 63 when they beat the Anchorage in 6 games but then fall to Nevada in 5 on next round. It seems like Grizzlies might have been able to turn the new leaf around this time but unfortunately that wasn't yet to be.

After two good seasons things get once again bad for Grizzlies as they end up being last in the leagues for next two seasons with season 71 being worst they have ever played with only 20 wins and 41 points, season 72 being only marginally better with 44 points.  For 71 they make an playoffs appearance and manage to win a game against the Nevada but that isn't much to write home about.

So in general Grizzlies haven't been doing too well since they joined the league. While they have had their up seasons they have yet managed to only win 4 playoffs series during their 12 seasons in the league, though they have also earned 2 byes in that time. Still that leaves lot of room for improvement as we are moving forward and hopefully turning the ship for both regular season and playoffs in near future.
