Next Season’s SHL Playoff Formatting - xDParK - 01-08-2019

What would you guys like to see?

I’d like to see 4 divisions 2 conferences.
1 seed gets a bye
2 vs 3
Div 1 winner vs Div 2 winner (East)
Div 3 winner vs Div 4 winner (West)
Conference winner vs conference winner

so 12 teams make playoffs? thats too much for some people.

it would actually be great if more teams made playoffs because the playoffs+off-season waits are horrible

idek.

On one hand I feel like 75% of the league is too much for making the playoffs.

another that playoffs+off-season wait times is horrible and 50% of the league experiencing that isn't option

also how many regular season games too cause i dont think 50 is an option in a 16 team league unless we go the 4 division route. And I know I would be pissed if we went with xdparks playoff format and i didnt get an expansion team within my division.

I'm actually curious about the responses to this too.

I wouldn't mind a wildcard system

top 3 teams get a 1st round bye.

4th seed vs 5th seed play a round, tryin to figure it out if we can maybe do a 3 game series for the wildcard thing but I dont think so might have to be a full 7 game series

2 conferences with 2 divisions of 4 teams each:
play division rivals 6 times (3 home, 3 away) each = 18 games
play conference rivals 4 times (2 home, 2 away) each = 16 games
play opposite conference 2 times (1 home, 1 away) each = 16 games
= 50 games

From there you could really do whatever playoff format you want. Maybe top of each division plus 2 wild cards per conference for 8 total teams? You make a good point about playoffs+offseason being long for teams that miss, though, so maybe 6 teams from each conference making it with 2 teams getting a bye is the way to go. I don't have much of a preference personally.

ya thats the only option if we do a 50 game season.

I want a system where a) from a gming standpoint that I actually have to worry about making the playoffs every season like we currently have and b)limit the potentially long playoff+off-season wait times.

12 teams making the playoffs would just making it easier to make the playoff every season and make missing the playoffs and its wait time until regular season even longer.

I wouldn't mind a longer season but it would fuck everything in terms of history and stuff in terms of points record.

yeah but it would be really cool to be able to compare stats to nhl teams and players

would make for more media too imo

RE: Next Season’s SHL Playoff Formatting - Hallsy - 01-08-2019

Also 4 division thing has to be temporary until next expansion too. Cause this won't be the last time we are expanding and having an unequal number of teams would suck.

Idk regression would have to change too cause it makes it easier to fight regression due to more chances for ac and itc. I think longer regular seasons would be great as it will limit the chances of a bad 10 game stench of the season ruining your playoff chances and stuff. Making the reg season longer will make the playoffs and offseason seem shorter and stuff like that.
