(GRADED) Deep Dive #2: Best fighters in SMJHL

Ice hockey is a unique sport in many aspwcts, but perhaps the most unique of them is the fact that fights are embraced as a part of the game. I found out that fights were tracked down and recorded (like a stat!) On the index, and I thought it was very funny as a new user. Another thought I had was that it will be a fun topic to write my second deep dive article on.

Currently, after about one third of the games have been played, the best fighter in SMJHL is Quebec city right defenseman Boris Petrov. Petrov sits at the throne of best fighter without a shade of doubt, as he participated in league high six fights and won 4 of them (which is also league high), boasting a win rate of almost 67 percent. With 15 fighting- unsurprisingly also highest in the league- Petrov is a formidable presence on the ice, and his 56 minutes spent on the penalty box is a good supporting fact to that reputation. His good fighting skills are not the only perks that Perrov has, however. He's currently having a very good season defensively, and it seems like he played a big part on the hot streak the Citadelles had in this stretch of the season. Petrov currently has whooping 133 hits, which leads the league by almost 35. He also recorded 16 takeaways and blocked 14 whots, resulting in a defensive game rating of 76. On the other hand, Petrov wasn't as lucky on the offensive side. He is still yet to score a goal despite shooting 30 shots on goal, and has 7 assists so far, which results in an offensive game rating of 54.

Next up on the list is Gino Lombardo, a left defenseman for the Carolina Kraken. Lombardo, who is the player with the second highest fighting attribute in SMJHL with 12, currently fought in 4 brawls and emerged victorious in 2 of them, making his win rate 50%. Like Petrov, Lombardo also proved himself as a good player in defense. He currently bolsts a defensive game rating of 75, with 26 hits, 4 takeaways and 20 shots blocked as the highlights of his performance on that side. Lombardo also saw some success on the offensive side, as he managed to score a goal out of 28 shots on goal, and currently has 4 total points with 3 assists in addition of the aforementioned goal. Lombardo receoved a game rating of 50 as a resuot of that.

The third player on the list is the rising rookie fighter, Vancouver Whalers right wing Robot Sunfish. Just like Lombardo, Sunfish go involved in 4 fights, and won 2 of them. However, he managed to do it in only 14 minutes and 7 seconds of playing time, which is 4 minutes less than Lombardo. Sunfish spent a total of 24 minutes in the penalty box, mainly because of his fights. Unlike the previous two players, Sunfish's forte is on offense. So far he scored 1 goal on the season, although his shoot accuracy is downright pitiful at 2.56%, with 39 shots on goal. He currently has 9 total points with 8 additional assists. Sunfish tried on the defense, but he wasn't very good. He got some stats such as 21 hits, 5 takeaways and 19 shots blocked, but he wasn't very effective in defense on general with only 49 defensive game rating.
