Alright let’s go back in time to the Season 68 SMJHL Draft (Season 69 players) and see how they have faired since being drafted. Some have been promoted to their SHL roster, some have gone inactive. I will only focus on the ones that are still on a roster SHL or SMJHL and not invest the time trying to hunt down all inactive players and their finally TPE.
- I will look at the top TPE players per position. - Season 68’s current average TPE - Redraft knowing what we know now based on positional TPE at where a player was drafted. - I also have a handy dandy graph of all the players I investigated, seen here: ![]() ***EDIT - Luca Nogoalov is a season 70 Draftee and shouldn't be here, thanks Seany for pointing it out. Also kudos Luca on being the second best goalie despite being a season behind. ***EDIT - Georg N'Zola is on Anchorage not Carolina, thanks Frenchie. TOP TPE PER POSITION: GOALIE: Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz - 721 TPE - LAP Sitting at number one by a large margin is Grzegorz. He has worked hard enough to earn an early call up with the Los Angeles Panthers. He has a long career ahead of him in the SHL with a ton of opportunity to go down as one of the greats in league history. George Walsh - 473 TPE - ANC Just barely squeak ahead of the competition is George, while a star goaltender at the junior level, George will likely find the jump to the next level a little more difficult then the two ahead of him on this chart. Nothing is ever written in stone, but it would be difficult to see him as something more than a #2 goalie. Noah Charlevoix - 425 TPE - VAN Noah is the number 3 in this year's rookie corps. He is a fantastic SMJHL goalie but will likely find it difficult to excel in the SHL next season. DEFENSE: Pork Tenderloin - 828 TPE – GFG The true work horse of season 69’s draft class. Pork Tenderloin has done everything to make the Great Falls Grizzlies look like geniuses for drafting him. He is the anchor on the back end for the Grizzlies and will transition nicely next season into a top 4 role in the SHL. Jølñgüštrâädæviñçh DuBølk - 788 TPE - TBB Making the jump into a struggling Tampa Bay will give DuBolk a chance to shine early in his career. He has the makings of a number one defender and will be given every opportunity to make the most of his time racking up the points. Jack McCarthy - 761 TPE - REG Rounding out the top 3 is Jack McCarthy, he is a force on the back end in Regina and one of the many reasons they are in a good spot this season. Jack will be leaned upon by his team to help carry them into the playoffs and a deep run before making the transition into an SHL top 4 role. RIGHT WING: Billy Herrington - 821 TPE - DET Billy is here to prove Detroit knows what they are doing in selecting talent. Originally picked up in the third round, Billy has done everything to work his way up into the elite of this draft. One last run will give Billy a chance at a cup and prepare him for that next step. Antoine Beauregard - 809 TPE - NL The former number one overall pick, Antoine has done an amazing job to live up to that status. He will continue to refine his game in Newfoundland as he takes one more shot at capturing another Four Star Cup leading a powerhouse team into the playoffs. Luca Pane - 809 TPE - MIN Luca is no longer in the SMJHL and has graduated into the SHL lending his amazing skill set to the Minnesota Monarchs. Once again this will give Luca a chance to add his name to the history books as he gets a chance to add a little more to his stats before he even thinks of retiring. CENTER: Peter Tingle - 777 TPE - MNT What can you say about Peter Tingle, an SHMJHL Perennial All Star. He nearly carried his team on his back to win a Four Star Championship last year. The all world center is looking for one last chance at a cup before making his move to the big club. James Dion - 759 TPE - TEX Texas saw how much Dion had improved and got the talented Center up into the SHL to help them during their retool phase. Dion has looked good and worked hard for this opportunity as he is a future number one center in the SHL. Klaes Ashford - 605 TPE - VAN Ashford has done a fantastic job to earn a top 3 spot in the center group. He continues to improve and will be welcomed into the SHL next season with his big league team. The future is not certain if Ashford will continue to be a number 1 center, but he will always be a productive member on any team he ends up on. LEFT WING: Georg N'Zola - 849 TPE - ANC MR. OFFENSE, MR. TPE, MR. TOP OF THE SEASON 69 CLASS. Georg is leading the way for his alumni and has done an amazing job to be the shinning example of setting the goal to dominate. Next season he will be taking up a role in his future SHL teams top 6. Oskar Scholz - 815 TPE - ANC No slouch here Oskar has done everything to remain in the elite of this group. He is ready for the jump but will stay for one last season with the Armada as he makes one last run for the Cup. Oskar has a future #1 winger locked up. Peter Vrana - 744 TPE - YUM The final spot in the Left Wing top 3 is Peter Vrana, falling just short of the Elite of the season 69 group. Still having completed an amazing job of being a top earner. Peter recently was transferred to the Yukon and has not looked out of place with the move. A future top 3 winger for a very lucky SHL team in the future. Antoine is next to a perfect first overall pick that has given the Berserkers nearly everything they could ask from a top pick. Redraft: Billy Herrington – 821 TPE - UP 31 SPOTS! There is only one right winger with more TPE then Antoine, so in this scenario Billy takes the top spot. The work Billy has done is amazing and the jump from 32 to 1 is equally amazing. 2: ![]() Clearly the Kraken would be happy with this selection, Johnny has done everything and earned himself a maxed out cap to help the Kraken succeed. Redraft: Antoine Beauregard - 809 TPE – DOWN 1 SPOT Antoine gets the nod in the tie for TPE over Pane only for one reason he is still in the SMJHL while Pane is now in the SHL providing his SMJHL team more value. (This is the SMJHL redraft after all) 3: ![]() Once again I am positive the Grizzlies have zero complaints about selecting Kane in this spot. He is a hard worker and has helped to their success by reaching the TPE cap early. Redraft: Georg N'Zola - 849 TPE – UP 16 SPOTS If they were to redo the pick, Georg maybe their choice for a left winger. He has been unstoppable in his earning potential and if he played on the right hand side he would have been picked number one in the redraft. The current TPE champ is a great addition at number 3. 4: ![]() The Knights made a great selection picking up Vrana and he gave them everything he could over 3 seasons including topping out in TPE. Now in Yukon Varna is showing how good he can be. Redraft: Oskar Scholz - 815 TPE – UP 1 SPOT Anchorage managed to find great value in this pick grabbing one of the best earners in this draft. In the redraft the Knights take advantage of this Knowledge and grab Oskar before Anchorage has a chance. 5: ![]() Sadly, for Anchorage Oskar was picked up just before they could grab him. Showing a great job by there scouts in finding his true value. Redraft: Peter Vrana – 744 TPE – DOWN 1 SPOT In turn they grab Peter Vrana to add to their talented group. Swapping left wingers by one spot shows how close they really are in talent, and it becomes negligible in the SMJHL. Also they end up being teammates for their final season together. 6: ![]() I am sure Colorado was very happy with their initial pick with Patricija, but I am guessing over time they wished they could have made a different person their first pick. LUCKY FOR THEM WE ARE DOING IT! Redraft: James Dion – 759 TPE – UP 38 SPOTS! First a shout out to Peter Tingle he out paced every Center in this draft class as a free agent with lucky 777 TPE! Now in the redraft using the Centers that are available Dion does not fall to the 4th round as looking back now it is nearly criminal he fell that far. Instead, he is the first Center off the board. 7: ![]() E E has been amazing for the Elk. There is no doubt they were happy and are still happy with this selection…but Redraft: Tiberius Kane - 699 TPE – DOWN 4 SPOTS Kane is picked up in the number 7 spot. Considering it is only a drop of 4 spots he is proving the Great Falls Grizzlies right for initially picking him up at #3 which proving he provided a ton of value for his draft position. 8: ![]() I feel bad for Klaes, they are worth a first round pick, but he does fall based on draft position in this draft. There were not a lot of Centers selected early and the one to take his place is not THAT much better than him. Redraft: John Hopoate – 674 – UP 21 SPOTS But let’s give John his dues. He has worked hard and has become the second best center drafted in the SMJHL season 69 draft. The guy is a work horse, and he has done well to earn his position at number 8. The effects to the Whalers may have not been noticed as they are close. 9: ![]() Once again there is nothing wrong with this pick. R Chainz in his own way is a legend in the SMJHL and has done well to keep Detroit relevant through a rebuild process. Redraft: Luca Pane – 809 TPE – UP 3 SPOTS This may not be necessarily an upgrade as Luca is playing in the big league right now, so I am sure Detroit prefers 4 Chainz, but based on TPE Luca was the better option and would have helped Detroit over the last three seasons more. 10: ![]() I can’t believe it took 10 picks to grab our first defender, but here we are. Hugh has been an anchor for the Scarecrows, and I know they are happy with their pick here. Redraft: Pork Tenderloin - 828 TPE – UP 17 SPOTS Based on TPE alone, Pork is in another world. He would have been a welcome change years later to add more power a little earlier for the Scarecrows. 11: ![]() The Scarecrows nailed this pick, unfortunately for them Luca moved on early from the SMJHL. Still based on TPE alone Luca was an amazing selection that should have been picked a few earlier. Redraft: Johnny Wagner-Svenson - 687 TPE – DOWN 9 SPOTS In some ways this could have been a blessing in disguise for the Scarecrow as they would have kept their number one Right Winger for a 4th season. Dropping 9 spots might sting, but Johnny has been an amazing player and worker in the SMJHL and still a 1st round pick is impressive. 12: ![]() There is no doubt or question that the Battleborn are happy with this selection, Junior has won an MVP and looks to be a front runner to do it again. Still if they could redraft based on TPE where would he go? Redraft: Bender Junior – 677 TPE – NO MOVEMENT First shout out to Edzus Ozolins - 682 TPE who out paced Bender as a free agent and finished in our Top 5 left wing earners. Bender was the perfect pick at this spot. Jess and her scouting team did an amazing job finding the perfect player at this spot. 13: ![]() So far there has been no real “BAD” pick in the first round and Walt is more of the same. A great decision by St. Louis in picking up the talented right winger in the first round. Redraft: Gritty McGritterson – 604 TPE – UP 17 SPOTS But if they were to redo this pick, there would be few better then McGritterson who finally gets his true value of becoming a first rounder. 14: ![]() Ok so we ran into the first mistake pick of this draft. Doomslatter unfortunately did not pan out as most expected. If the Grizzlies had a do over who would it be? Redraft: Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz – 721 – UP 7 SPOTS Grzegorz would gain his rightful spot as a first round talent and the best goalie in this draft. This could have been a major turning point for the Grizzlies as they would have acquired a number one goalie to build around. Round 2 15: ![]() An early second round pick is always considered the same value as a late first rounder, unfortunately for the Knights they missed on this pick as Cole did not live up to his potential. Redraft: Klaes Ashford - 605 TPE – DOWN 7 SPOTS Like I said before Klaes is a first round talent. Being an early second rounder proves that it would have also made a big difference for the Knights and how competitive they are now. 16: ![]() Another miss, and the second round is off to a terrible start Matt Ox has not lived up to his billed potential of an early second round talent. Redraft: Jølñgüštrâädæviñçh DuBølk – 788 TPE – UP 10 SPOTS Still a second round talent, but one that should have gone much, much earlier. Dubolk would have made a huge difference for the Grizzlies in back to back missed opportunities. 17: ![]() What the hell!? Were the scouts drinking come the second round? Wonada did well in the early part of their career but has fallen apart compared to the rest of their draft class. And at this point in the draft failing to meet SMJHL capped limit is a miss. Redraft: 4 Chainz - 568 TPE – DOWN 8 SPOTS What a difference the Knights could have been if they had selected according to the redraft, hell if they made a slightly different selection all together this could have been much better. 4 Chainz drops a bit but is still one of the most talented right wingers in this draft. 18: ![]() A staple on the left wing for Carolina Cuddles has proven to be a great selection and value in this pick (no more misses, say it with me) as they get the draft back on track in finding valuable long term players. Redraft: Ray Alexander – 602 TPE – UP 10 SPOTS Still with life to live over they could have found even more value in Ray. He has been a fantastic earner and one of the better left wings in this draft. 19: ![]() Armada found GOLD in the second round picking up the most dedicated player to earning in this draft. They are still reaping the benefits from drafting Georg today. Unfortunately he is gone in the redraft by the 3rd pick. Redraft Damien Hirano – 585 TPE – UP 6 SPOTS While losing out on Georg would have hurt, they would have received a solid addition as a replacement in Damien, who could easily slip into the top line for the Armada at any time. 20: ![]() I am blown away we have only seen 3 defensemen up to the 20th pick. The Malamutes grabbed a great one with this pick getting fantastic value for their core. Redraft: Hugh Manius – 738 TPE – DOWN 10 SPOTS First a shout out to Jack McCarthy - 761 TPE as a free agent he came in and out paced the majority of the defenders in this class. In the redraft the former 1st round pick falls to the Malamutes giving them another anchor in place of Clint. Hugh is a workhorse in training, and he would be a greater benefit a little earlier in his career over Clint. 21: ![]() This may be another one of those blessing in disguise picks. While Grzegorz is another world in goalie talent compared to the rest of the draft class he is no longer playing for the Raptors as he was brought up early to the SHL. Redraft: Noah Charlevoix – 425 TPE – UP 1 SPOT A quick shout out to George Walsh - 473 TPE out pacing the rest of the goalie class as free agents. Without Grzegorz the Raptors would have selected Noah to fill the goalie need. He would eventually cap out in juniors and become a solid starter for the last two years of his career. 22: ![]() In the redraft Raptors stole the last good starter Noah Charlevoix right under the Whalers noses, at this point, and as far as goalies go this was great value at the time of the draft for a starting netminder. Redraft: Copernicus Doomslatter – Retired (262) Vancouver is forced to pick up the remaining goalie. This would have been disastrous for Vancouver as Doomslatter never gets close to their potential, but they are good enough for Vancouver to ignore the free agent, at least for one season, likely two. 23: ![]() Finally, we are starting to see the Defense come rolling in. St. Louis makes no mistake in picking up a great option in David Doug. He is everything a team would hope for and a potential number one. Redraft: Clint Clampton – 688 TPE – DOWN 3 SPOTS Clint may have fallen but it was not far, down three spots provide the Scarecrows a slight upgrade in over David. Not much but a bit. 24: ![]() Rikaad has been an anchor on the Knights back end and one of the best leaders on the ice. There was no mistake with this second round pick of the Knights. Redraft: Rikaad Metzller – 683 TPE – NO MOVEMENT Proving to be the perfect pick at the perfect position timing. Rikaad was an excellent choice at 24 providing the amazing value. 25: ![]() No longer available the Timber are forced to look for a new offensive ace to add to their roster with Hirano already off the board. Redraft: FITTED *PRIMETIME99* CUDDLES – 529 TPE – DOWN 7 SPOTS So Fitted slipped a little, so what, Fitted is amazing value for the Timber at 25. He would have provided a ton of value to this team and filled in for Damien without a hitch on the top line. 26: ![]() A great pick by the Battleborn with 5 other defenders that have been picked up before DuBolk. The issue Dubolk is already gone at this time and finding a replacement will not be easy. Redraft: Dusty Wilson - 640 TPE – UP 4 SPOTS Interestingly enough Wilson is one of the players to make the jump into the SHL in their 4th season just like DuBolk so this would really be providing even value at least time wise. Talent wise they are close enough there wouldn’t be any noticeable difference between the two. 27: ![]() Insane value by the Great Falls Grizzlies, Pork Tenderloin is the best defender and among the 4 year starters in the SMJHL. Grabbing him with the 6th defender off the board is either great scouting or a bit of luck, perhaps both. Redraft: David Doug - 638 TPE – DOWN 4 SPOTS While Doug is no Pork Tenderloin, and that is no slight against him few are, he is more then capable of taking on the top defender role for the Grizzlies. A fall of 4 spots but sticking to the same round shows he was worth of his earlier selection. 28: ![]() Unfortunately for the Malamutes Ray was selected much earlier in the redraft showing how good of a pick he was as a late second rounder as they were able to mine for gold. Redraft: e e – 496 TPE – DOWN 21 SPOTS Originally the seventh overall picks falls all the way down 21 spots. While e e has been a phenomenal player in the SMJHL, and I am sure the Malamutes would be happy to have e e if this is how the cookie crumbled there is a clear difference in talent between Alexander and e e.
