Deep Dive #2: Brief Analysis on Yuri Boyka III
#1

Yuri Boyka III, a native from Moscow, Russia is the grandson of the infamous Yuri Boyka. Yuri Boyka rattled the SMJHL in his early years and won most of the trophies given that year, a feat that will be almost impossible for many. However, Boyka III remains optimistic and is keen on breaking some records going forward. Boyka III was brought up with great discipline and has been working out since the young age of 4. There is a reason why he has some of the cleanest abs in the entire league. Boyka III, like his grandfather, is also a martial artist. The Russian hunk also had the fortune of training with some of the Dagestani brothers such as Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makachev. He won world sambo tournament at the young age of 11 and has been at his peak since then. Many say he could he could have been the pound for pound king if he continued his talent in MMA but chose to go towards hockey instead. This was a personal move for Boyka III as he wanted to prove to the world that he was the better version of his grand-dad.

Fast forward a couple of years and it was time for the SMJHL draft. The 1st round goes by, the 2nd goes by, and finally in the 3rd round, 42nd OA, Boyka III finally gets picked up by Nevada Battleborn. The fact that the recreate fell this hard in the draft, left a bit of a mark on the young star's ego but he kept a calm mind and knew this was the fuel to become better and prove his doubters wrong. Not only that, he wants to pay it forward for the team that took a chance on him and help them in the coming years to hopefully win the cup. The team picked a solid trio in the season 76 SMJHL draft: Boyka III, Gwenn and Effo, and will look to accumulate success together. All 3 rookies are TPE hungry and doing whatever they can to become better. This could partially also help explain why Nevada has been recently successful in their games beating powerhouses like Colorado and Carolina.

Boyka III has three major strengths when it comes to hockey. First, it is his physicality. Standing 6'3" 230 lbs, the dude has a large frame and uses it properly. He's basically a bulldozer on the ice and is not shy from physical play. He will put his body where others are afraid to put their sticks. A true menace on the ice and his hits land like a truck. This helps him gain possession and put his team on the path to success. Second, is Boyka III's scoring ability. He is a natural born scorer and can capitalize on scoring chances with ease. The dude has a strong wrist shoot and uses it to put goalies into oblivion. His third greatest strength is balance. Usually when a person is of such large frame, their balance tends to falter as they have a higher center of gravity but Boyka is able to position his body in a certain way that he plays like someone that is less that 6 foot. He can optimally use body movements and his intense balance prevents him from losing possession of the puck. He is a natural two way beast and is basically the SHL version of Anze Kopitar. If Boyka III has any form of weakness, it has to be his passing. This is mainly because he is a shoot first type of guy. However, his passing is steadily improving playing on Nevada as they foster a team first attitude and not much solo level of play. At the end of the day, it is your ability to play as a team that matters the most.

Yuri Boyka III is a valuable asset to any SHL team that is seeking a forward with ton of potential. His physical presence, scoring ability and balance are the trifecta that will allow him to perform at critical moments for his team. With the SMJHL regular season almost coming to an end, Boyka III would like to let the SHL know that he has no preference and will play for any team that drafts him in the SHL s77 draft.
