Halifax Raiders vs. Detroit Falcons

raiders vs Falcons

Period 1:
Both teams come out flying in the first period, as the Raiders put 10 shots up on goal, while the Falcons had 8. A lot of penalties in this period, 3 for the Falcons and 2 for the Raiders, as undisciplined play cost both teams but surprisingly, no special teams goals were scored. Bastien Salabanzi of the Halifax Raiders opened the scoring with less than three minutes to go in the first period to take the lead into the second period.

Period 2:
This period was very back and forth as both teams tried to outgun each other. Taystee Poussey scored his ninth goal of the season at 15:24 to put the Raiders up by two, only to be answered by Yorgen Bartenberry who scored his 11th goal of the season less than two minutes later to put the Falcons within one. The shots this period slightly favored the Falcons, as they had 10 while the Raiders had 8. Less penalties in this period, but very slightly. Detroit had 1 minor penalty, while the Raiders had 3.

Period 3:
This period was all Raiders. Striking three times on the man advantage, the Raiders took a huge lead that the Falcons could not get back. Ignant Ogordnikov put the first goal up at 4:31 of the third period, and it was mostly quiet, as Selena Bauer kept her team within striking distance until 16:20, where Sekkusu Gan scored his 10th goal of the season to put the Raiders up by 3. A minute and seven seconds later, Arik Mikita put up his 7th of the season to put the Raiders up by 4. A minute and 18 seconds later, Elias Lehner put up his 7th of the season, but it was too little too late for the Falcons, as Halifax takes it 5 to 2. Shots this period were 14 for the Raiders, and 8 for the Falcons.

Prince George Firebirds vs. St. Louis Scarecrows

Firebirds vs. Scarecrows

Period 1:
The game started off slow, as both teams tried to figure each other out from the get go. Krystof Kowalski opened the scoring for the Scarecrows at 11:06 as he tucks in his fourth goal of the season. Not much more action, as the shots this period were 10 for the Firebirds and 12 for the Scarecrows. Only one minor penalty was taken for the Scarecrows this period, while the Firebirds took four. Nobody managed to strike on the man advantage.

Period 2:

A very defense oriented period for both teams to contradict the complete run and gun style hockey that was displayed in the first. Dean Banger took a holding penalty at 12:13, but other than that there was no action as the Firebirds successfully killed off the penalty. The shots this period were 3 for the Firebirds and 2 for the Scarecrows.

Period 3:

Another very tame period for both clubs, as the Scarecrows looked to have it in the bag until Clayton Goode took a roughing penalty at 17:02. Twenty-two seconds into the man advantage, Jaxson Reynolds fires his 5th of the year home for the Firebirds to tie the game up! The Scarecrows took two minor penalties this period and it cost them potentially the two points.

Overtime:

Both teams tried to win it in overtime to stop the shootout from happening, but nobody was successful in scoring. The Firebirds had 2 shots on net in 5 minutes of overtime hockey while the Scarecrows only had one.

Shootout:
With the score still undecided, the game goes to a shootout! Jaxson Reynolds is the first shooter up for the Firebirds, and he tucks it behind Lee Bowden to lead the shootout 1-0. Ryan King comes in and scores for the Scarecrows to tie the shootout up. Scotty Reay and John Wick are both unsuccessful in putting the puck in the back of the net. Sparks Lightning, Steve French and Leon Webb all score back to back, leaving the game on the stick of Ben Troy for the Scarecrows. He comes in and shoots, and is stopped by Sylvia! The Firebirds win a very close game with the Scarecrows in the shootout!
