A new contest has been born

This offseason, in the IIHF HO discord,  a new competiton, contested by each of the IIHF federations, has been born. The rules are simple: the moment your federation gets a new creation (recreates don't count), you lose. The last team standing is crowned champion. The season started early, with Manboobs Harden knocking out a team that, let's face it, was never really a contender. The USA was gone, just days after the trade deadline. Shortly after, Scott King arrived in the league, eliminating the only other team considered to truly have no hope, Canada (although Russia was never exactly a favourite).

Russia, as was somewhat expected, were the final one of the early knockouts, with Shiqa Vitalievich removing them from the competition. That was 3 teams eliminated in a single day (a solid effort for a day that wasn't the recruitment drive day.

Next, Sweden survived a scare, as Gylfi Eriksson created for them, but luckily was a recreate, so they live to see another day. 11 federations out of 14 still remain in the contest.

The next team to fall comes as a shock to many, as Czechia loses out on a chance at victory with the creation of Jakob Hamr. A disappointing 11th place finish for them in this inaugural season. Germany swiftly followed as the first team out in the top 10, with slothface's recruit Jiddy Jimbo knocking them out of the hunt for gold.

Switzerland also survived a recreate scare, Luca Veccelli, as did Japan (2 recreates causing some stress in their camp) and Great Britain shortly afterwards, each of the teams seeing a recreate, but not being eliminated from the competition. Lucky O'Hoolihan, then, was the next player to eliminate a team, removing Ireland from the contest, a disappointing result given their recent IIHF performances. This is after the start of reddit recruitment, so teams start falling fast. Finland falls to a rapid blow from Miska Humala, ending their hopes in the contest. A short break followed, before Marcus Weiser removed Austria from the contest. That was 3 teams in quick succession, and leaving just 6 federations remaining, including 3 with recreates already added to the federation. One of those, however, was removed quickly as Japan fell to the two-way forward Ihaf Scehtez.

That leaves just 5 teams in the contest, Great Britain (reigning IIHF champion), Switzerland, Latvia, Sweden and Norway. Norway would be the first of these teams to fall out of the medals, as Berg Svensen created a player for the expansion franchise, meaning both of the recent expansions had fallen, and just one more team would miss out on a medal. Marcus Ohlsson would remove that team, with Sweden ending up in 4th place, confirming the medalists as Switzerland, Latvia, and Great Britain. And just a short while later, the bronze medal was confirmed. Daniel Bischoff was born, removing Switzerland and leaving us with a gold medal match for the ages. Defending IIHF champions in Great Britain play the up and coming underdogs Latvia in a great contest to see who will be the final team to get a creation. Maybe the championship will be shared, if neither team gets one this season. Who knows.
