2. Everyone knows the playoffs are a time of year where the game changes, everything becomes all that much more important.  Consequently each individual’s performance changes, and one of the biggest areas that are effected by this playoff mindset is the physicality of the game.  In a series matchup, taking a toll on another team is a very real thing.  As a result you see a lot of checks being completed, and a lot of people laying out on the line to block a shot.  A typical play that might find a forward peeling off the play would instead find him finishing the check in the postseason.  In the finals series we see West Kendall Platoon and Edmonton Blizzard beating the living shit out of each other in an attempt to wear down their opponents.  At the top of that list is Edmonton’s Chuck Goody, with 47 hits and Platoon’s Zallerras Szlercheck with 45 hits.  Both players showing excellent finish and drive on the physical end to help their team.  Szlercheck has put up points as much as he’s made a physical impact, currently leading the West Kendall Platoon in points with 15 (6 goals, 9 assists).  Edmonton’s physical beast Chuck Goody is right along Szlercheck in terms of production with a mirrored 15 points as well (5 goals, 10 assists).  These two players have proven they are key to an all-around game their franchises need to be playoff champs.

3. The most important game in the S28 post season has to be in the cup finals in game two when Edmonton took a win on the road to even up the series at 1-1 before coming back to their two game home stand.  The win was not just any win either, Blizzard showed West Kendall they could play on opposing ice and tear you apart doing it.  In the 5-3 victory on the road Blizzard set the tone and took back the home ice advantage going into games three and four.  Watch this game be a catalyst for a successful series going forward.  Although we don’t have complete evidence of the impact just yet it begs to favor the Blizzard in this series and ultimately potential cup champions.

4. West Kendall Platoon and the Edmonton Blizzard are two storied franchises who have a long history of being successful in the SHL.  Although it has been some time since either of these teams were as dominant as their dynasty years they both are boosting a strong core roster and impactful youth.  If you trace back to the last time either team has taken home a Challenge Cup you would have to look back to season 16 when the Edmonton Blizzard won it three out of four seasons since S13.  You’ll need to dig further back to find the last time West Kendall were proclaimed champions of the SHL.  As far back as Season 5, and previously Season 2.  West Kendall had a strong team in the early first decade of SHL history and it is refreshing to see them returning to cup contention.
