Cikgnar Konstantinov, a two-way center from Omsk, Russia, enters S31 in the unlikely position of getting immediately called up to the SHL following the Entry Draft. Following a 25-point season with Detroit in his rookie SMJHL campaign, the Buffalo Stampede selected Konstantinov with the 44th overall selection in the S31 SHL Entry Draft.

Last season, Konstantinov’s 19 assists propelled a dynamic third forward line for the Falcons. Linemates Zach Evans and Henrik Vikstrom finished the season with 28 and 21 points, respectively. With several veteran forwards earning SHL promotions from Detroit after S30, this trio appeared destined to play as the front line for the Falcons offense in S31. However, Konstantinov also received a call-up to the Stampede, where he is expected to play on the third line.

Konstantinov is a natural center, but can also play the left wing and did so for Russia in IIHF competition this offseason. While he is not a prolific scorer, his game is otherwise incredibly well-rounded, both offensively and defensively. He is always in the right position to make a smart play for his team. With more time to develop and grow as a player, Konstantinov can become a playmaking center with a 200-foot game and become a key contributor in Buffalo.
