Game 44 of the SMJHL season featured two teams in the middle of the pack in terms of the standings, and about equal footing in a lot of respects. This game would prove to be no different as the first period started off with a lot of back and forth action.

Period 1

Colorado would open up the scoring midway in the first period with a goal from Cash Money who received a cross-crease feed from Maverick O'Dooley. That goal would be his first of the season. Montreal would answer back only 22 seconds later when Viktor Nerokov scored his second of the season at the point, knotting the game up at one goal a piece. Colorado would not be intimidated, however, as William Goddard and Alex Koivu would make a perfect tick-tack play to feed Oliver Lake for his first goal of the season, the goal coming on the powerplay at the 16:52 mark. Wesley Wells of Montreal would then answer with five seconds remaining in the first period with Russett and Vas assisting.

Period 2

The game started to tilt in Montreal's favor as they began peppering goaltender Ekaterina Rudnikova with shots, not giving Colorado any chance to provide significant pressure on their net. However the Militia were stopped cold, and Colorado's only shot of the period would be the difference as Jacob Renninger would score from Koivu and O'Dooley to put Colorado back in the lead 3-2.

Period 3

With the game on the line Montreal stepped up the pressure, continued to attack, and finally their hard work paid off as Johnny Watson forced a turnover, sent it to Andrej Melnyk in the zone, and set up Wesley Wells for a game-tying goal midway in the third period which would force overtime.

Overtime

It only took two minutes and 18 seconds for the Montreal Militia to take the game when Kristofer Hallfredsson sent it up to Filip Granlund for a great passing play for Jason Forbrook's first goal of the season, capping off a come from behind win.
