Fox Sports Midwest Five Stars of the Night

Star 1: Billy Sorokin – With a shutout and 22 saves in the game, it is clear that the goalie should be the first star in this game.

Star 2: Taisei-Tiikeri Wawazat – With 1 goal in this game on two shots, this player deserves the second star of this game. Despite his lousy faceoff numbers, he was the one who sealed the deal in the first period.

Star 3: Nicolas Fleming – With the game winning goal, this player performed very well in the game. He is making his case for the league MVP trophy.

Star 4: Isaac Yamada – With one helper, this Yamada played very well this game.

Star 5: Ty Hoover – Winning almost all of his faceoffs and also putting up a point places this player in the fifth star category.

Strong Faceoffs

Being a center is tough, but the centers of the St Louis Scarecrows make it look easy. With 47 out of 81 wins, they controlled the circle. However, these stats are pretty skewed. If we take a look at specific players we can see the real picture. Ty Hoover controlled the circle tonight winning 21 out of 29 faceoffs. This is very important to the Crow’s top line and will help them throughout the season. Also, Michael Fox put up great numbers as well with 10 out of 18 wins. This is above a .5 faceoff win rate. Finally, Brolias Hawking contributes to the 4th line by winning 8 out of 9 faceoffs tonight. It is clear that the Scarecrows will use this to their advantage come playoff time.

Strong Goaltending

Usually, the Scarecrow’s goaltender Billy Sorokin can have some off nights. This was most definitely not an off night. Throughout the game he faced 22 shots and saved all of them. The Lethbridge Lions have many heavy shooters on their roster like Monkey D. Luffy and Roger Baston. In total these players created 1 shot on goal. This tells us a lot about the Scarecrow’s defense and the strength of their goaltending. All in all, it is clear that these Scarecrows are a stacked team and will be a threat in the future. I am very excited to see where Billy Sorokin will take the crows on their probable cup run this season.
