Game Recap

Two teams with extremely high hopes for this season, the energy was flowing early for both teams in this early season match-up between the Anchorage Armada and the Halifax Raiders. The Raiders scored just a minute into the game as SMJHL veteran Tobias Viklund took a nice feed from rookie Joseph Laraque for the easy goal. Laraque's assist was his 6th in just his 9th game. The Raiders would find themselves in penalty trouble and the Armada scored two powerplay goals within a four minute span. Kalevi Karhunen and Dean Colt III took advantage of the Raiders penalties and gave Anchorage a 2-1 lead. Dylan Karlsson would score a powerplay goal of his own to even the score heading into the locker-room after the 1st. Spencer MacLean scored early in the second period and the Armada held the lead until the horn sounded as neither team generated much offense. The Raiders star players shined bright in the 3rd period. Perry Morgan scored a pair of goals, Matt Kholin scored a goal and added an assist, and Troy Reynolds assisted on two of the Raiders 3 goals as Halifax proved to much for the Armada to handle. Reynolds added an exclamation point to the comeback victory when he got the best of Anchorage center Kenji Yoshimura in a late game scrap.

3 Stars of the Night

3. Matt Kholin

Matt Kholin stepped up his game when it mattered the most and was a big part of the Raiders comeback victory. Kholin scored the game winning goal just after Perry Morgan had tied the game and set up Morgan for the put away goal registering the primary assist on the play. Kholin was solid defensively as he usually is, winning 11 out of 19 face-offs, helping kill off a late penalty and finishing the game with a +2 plus/minus rating.

2. Dylan Karlsson

Dylan Karlsson has quietly been one of the most productive defenseman offensively from his draft class and he showed up again tonight. Karlsson scored his 4th goal of the new season and made a very smart pass to Matt Kholin for the primary assist on the game winning goal. Karlsson may soon be in the conversation for the leagues very best defenseman.

1. Perry Morgan

The first round pick of the New England Wolfpack lived up to the lofty expectations during this game scoring a pair of goals. leading the charge during the Raiders third period offensive outburst. Morgan scored on both of his shots and played important minutes in all situations. Morgan blocked a couple of point blank shots that could have very easily affected the outcome of the game.

When Will Slothface Breakout?

One name that was surprisingly absent from the scoresheet was that of ultra talented and New Orleans Specters first ever draft pick Jimmy Slothface. Slothface has just one goal to this point in the season after many people expected him to be among the leagues very best snipers. Slothface committed a double minor roughing penalty that led to a goal by Dean Colt during the second half of the penalty. Was Sloth's frustration with his low goal total getting the best of him? There's still plenty of time left in the season for Slothface to turn things around and the Halifax Raiders could reach a new level of play when he does. The other stars were getting it done tonight and improved play from Slothface could take the team to the next level.
