PGS S47 Game 12 - Halifax vs Anchorage

You have to give props to the Armada for their performance today, but it Xena who really stole the show. Having a hand in every goal Anchorage scored, with a goal and three assists, she has really stepped up today. She was the most iced forward for the Boats today, having played nearly 21 minutes of ice time, and she was very hungry to find the net, taking 7 shots in the game. Xena and her top line performing will be absolutely crucial for the Armada to have success this season, so both her and captain Olivier Cloutier putting up multi-point games is music to the ears of Armada fans.

Comment #2:A Tale of Two Netminders
Goaltending was another important part in this game turning out the way it did, as the hosts enjoyed their goalie's showing way more than the visitor's enjoyed their's. Peter Larson saved a very respectable 21 of 23 shots on the match for a .913 save %, and made a few key saves to keep Halifax from gaining any momentum. As for Raiders goalie Mike McKorsy, despite having the larger workload on the night, he had a far from ideal performance. Allowing 4 goals on 30 shots, for a .865 save %, McKorsy had a game that he will want to have back.

In a game where Xena dominated the show, being directly involved in every goal, it's easy to miss a bit of an issue the Armada had in this game: a total reliance on their top unit. Despite scoring 4 goals, only 4 players actually got points on the night, with Xena (4), Cloutier (2), Tony Ford (2) and Eko van Otter (1) being the quartet. While it is great for Anchorage that Xena had such an imposing performance, the lack of support for the top line should be a bit of a warning sign that shouldn't be brushed off. Relying on one player or line for offensive production is not a sustainable strategy, so we will see if the Armada feel the need to shake up their units a bit.
