SMJHL Scout Analysis

Timmo Kyllonen plays a true Two-Way game and plays both ends of the ice above standard. The jack-of-all-trades calls himself a Centerman but has been known to fill holes in any position his teams have needed him to in the past and was able to compete anywhere. In the offensive zone, Kyllonen looks to pass first and with a good offensive awareness can set up the perfect rush on the breakout. Deep in the zone his puck handling skills keep the play alive for as long as his club needs to get a scoring chance. On the back end Timmo also has a natural mind for the defensive game and can be counted on to kill a penalty when needed.

The Good

Versatile: Timmo is a GMs dream in the sense that he can be slotted into any role they seem to require. Whether it be on the power play or penalty kill, Kyllonen will succeed.

Sweet Talker: TK's personality is an asset to any GM but especially one who may be looking to persuade future players to their club. Since declaring SMJHL eligible Kyllonen has been spotted out and about shaking hands with the likes of everyone and has quickly made friends within both the SHL and SMJHL. He is a born leader and will be a positive locker room presence for whichever team he goes to.

Potential: Perhaps the most impressive trait Timmo boasts is his potential to improve and progress. In the short time since his name has made headlines here, his Strength and Face off work has shown to improve greatly. Expect Kyllonen to expedite his way through the SMJHL with promises to put in the work everyday as his willingness to improve his game is top priority.

The Bad

Master of Nothing: While his complete game is considered a positive, it doesn't come without it's downside. Timmo can do everything well but no part of his game shines as outstanding. Most SMJHL players can do one aspect of the game better than he can but not many can play the whole complete game as well.

Checking: If there is one thing Kyllonen is not known for, it would be completing a hit on the ice. When defending he seems to prefer the poke check or forcing the attacker to make a mistake leading to a turnover in his favour. He rarely goes in for a hit but when he does it looks sloppy and awkward at the very best. Despite all of this the 6'1" 185 lb center has said he will continue to work with trainers and coaches on how to better use his size in this area of the game. It may take a while to improve but there will eventually be improvement here.

Final Remarks

It's no doubt TK will gain the interest of the SMJHL General Managers if he hasn't done so already. He is the complete package deal for any team with the roster space to offer him a contract should they be able to persuade him to join their franchise. His ability to do everything well should be seen as a plus even when he cannot yet outstand in any one area. Very versatile he can fill any need a team should find a need for on the ice and lift up the locker room off the ice.
