Personally would prefer a young cost controlled forward that will most likely be 10x the player Merkley will ever be. We have too big of a need for young forwards to focus on trading away Seabrook. We have cost controlled defenseman in the system as is and probably can ship one out if we really want to move a contract. When Dylan "Unluckiest Shooter in the World" Sikura is your best forward prospect then you have a problem

Yeah but that just continues the cycle of players being great and we have to ship them out before they get a pay raise, ala teravainen and panarin. Yeah we get the guy at 3oa but how long until we have to trade him too? Obviously we'll probably end up picking the guy at 3. And giving up the third is a steep price but I'd love to keep strome and debrincat together and have money for boqvist and joki when the time comes. Maybe we'd find the money other ways but this makes it easier
