I think the biggest problem with Nuclear Energy is that current nuclear plants are extremely old and not equipped with enough technology to efficiently run and store nuclear waste clean enough. The price to build new Nuclear plants are too expensive at the moment and to retrofit the current plants would also cost too much. It's cheaper right now to push for Solar Tech on all new homes building built, adding solar to already standing buildings and creating Solar Farms paired with battery storage. Wind energy is great but it isn't strong enough for power companies to invest and personal wind energy turbines would be great, but people don't want to go through the hassle.
Coal energy is significantly dropping as 2018 was the first year renewables (Wind, Solar, & Hydroelectric) have overtaken Coal on a National Grid make up. Natural Gas isn't great but it is cleaner than Coal and easier to produce, but not the final answer either.
Yeah, expense is the biggest drawback, which is unfortunate, because it is probably the best option to really cut down on emissions. I'd have to find the studies again, but I recall seeing a few recently that said one of the best options for the next 100 years was to invest in nuclear power to replace coal, natural gas, etc, because it's actually cleaner than solar power.

Tell that to the people who starve on the streets everyday, or how about the parents who work full time+ hours and still aren't able to support a family.
More to the point in hand, capitalism is directly responsible for the situation the Earth finds itself in now. Regardless of what other systems work or not, this one is straight up killing us
