Due to inaccuracies in determining eligible players before the Season 67 ballot, ALL players who started their eligibility in Season 66 or before (The last season played must be between S57 - S64) will receive one extra season of eligibility.

This means the S66 1st Season Eligible players will be eligible through S73 instead of S72, and all those who started their eligibility before S67 will be eligible for one extra season, assuming they were still eligible at that time.
The players with an extra season of eligibility have been marked with an asterisk ( * ).

Players with eligibility starting in S67 and after will retain their original 7 seasons of eligibility.

The eligibility years listed will not change aside from allowing 8 seasons of eligibility for the classes before S67.
After the Ceremony for S73, the maximum number of eligible seasons will return to 7.

Good evening, and welcome to the Season 71 SHL Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony!

To start tonight, I would like to remind everyone of the voting rules, and some changes that we've made to help accommodate for some mistakes and errors that were made in the past with regards to eligibility and who was on the ballots.

Each member of the committee (10 people in all) nominates 5 retired athletes from the list of eligible players and ranks them 1 through 5, which in turn gives these players points according to their rank (10 points for 1st, 7 for 2nd, 5 for 3rd, 3 for 4th and 1 point for 5th).
Each committee member must also provide a short written piece to back up their choices.
These points are then totaled and all players who receive 35 points or more are selected to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

For GMs, committee members are allowed to place 2 votes, with 1st being 10 points and 2nd being 5, and a GM must receive at least 65 points to be inducted into the Hall of Fame

Additionally, due to inaccuracies in determining eligible players before the Season 67 ballot, ALL players who STARTED their eligibility between Season 59 and Season 66 (The last season played must be between S57 - S64) will receive one (1) extra season of eligibility.

This means the S66 1st Season Eligible players will be eligible through S73 instead of S72, and all those who started their eligibility before S67 will be eligible for one extra season, assuming they were still eligible at that time.
The players with an extra season of eligibility have been marked with an asterisk ( * ) in the eligibility list.

Players with eligibility starting in S67 and after will retain the original seven (7) seasons of eligibility.

The eligibility years listed will not change aside from allowing eight (8) seasons of eligibility for the classes before S67.
After the Ceremony for S73, the maximum number of eligible seasons will return to seven (7).

Before we get to celebrate those who made it, let’s take a chance to recognize those who graced our ballots for the final time this season.
Twelve players were on the ballot for the final time during Season 71 who unfortunately did not garner enough votes to be inducted into the SHL Hall of Fame.

Our first inductee had a lengthy career filled with stellar performances. With an insane 7 All-SHL nods and so many McBrides that they likely had their trophy case custom-made, it's surprising that there aren't any Challenge cups to go with them. This goalkeeper will forever be in the conversation to be the best ever to protect the net. It is my honor to welcome to the Hall of Fame . . .

Committee Quotes:

"An impressive 7 All-SHL selections (most among any eligible players for the HoF), 3 McBride wins (more than any other eligible HoFer) and another 4 McBride nominations (7 in total which is more than any other goalie in league history), second most wins in SHL history out of any goaltender with 479, most shutouts (74) and over 1,000 games played throughout one of the most successful goalie careers ever."

"It's quite the no-brainer, possibly the best career for any goalie in the FHM era. The trophy case is just superb and 7 All SHL teams is crazy."

"It is a crime that Harry Carpet never got a cup. A very long 23-season career wherein he packed 7 All-SHL nods, a combined 7 award wins and nominations, and more shutouts than literally every other goalie currently in the Hall. Even if we were to ignore all of this, the rest of his numbers stand shoulder to shoulder with prior inductees and thus make Harry an easy shoo-in."

"Elite goaltender, in the discussion for best at the position of all time"

Our other inductee tonight had a much shorter career, but his impact is not to be understated. Winning a cup with Edmonton in the same season he was drafted (thanks to a playoffs-only call-up), he was continuously a stalwart presence on the defense for every team he played for, even receiving a nomination for a Bojo Biscuit in his final season. Please join me in welcoming . . .
