Living the life of a successful butterfly goalie requires daily discipline in order to maintain a healthy body that can handle the rigors of an SHL season. When it comes to area of concern for Knox Booth it's not easy to admit but a lot of it has to do with his nether regions, specifically his groin. Without regular stretching exercises like Yoga, Knox can find himself getting very tight down there and runs the risk of pulling or tearing a muscle in a not so pleasant place. To battle against this Knox regularly attends Yoga but he also utilizes the Los Angeles Panthers training staff, specifically Maria, the masseuse. Maria has a gift with her hands, she's able to get in deep on the hard to reach areas and doesn't hold back when it comes to relaxing a tight muscle. Although she has rather large hands for a petite Latino woman, they are soft to touch and she is sensitive to what Knox needs in order for him to feel better. Meeting Maria has been the best part about the behind the scenes treatment at the Panthers facility and Knox knows that at the end of every session with Maria he has a big tip waiting for her. Thanks Maria!

With injuries turned off, and Aron Hernadivic not being a physical played - low hits and shots blocked - the only thing that hurting Aron right now is his heart. Putting his heart and soul into his fantasy football team has resulted in s bunch of depressing episodes, as he’s had to watch his team (a team that’s loaded on paper) struggle to a 1-4 record. One week it’s Christian McCaffrey putting up 47 points against Aron’s team, while this week it’s Melvin Gordon only putting up 8 points when all Aron needed was 12. Aron’s fantasy team has dealt him some tough, heartbreaking losses, and it’s starting to have an effect. If Green Bay’s defence doesn’t put up a good stat line, it’ll be another heartbreaking loss for Aron. This isn’t even mentioning the trade Aron made for Davante Adams, who proceeded to get hurt before Aron could even play him in a game. Aron’s heart is breaking, and it’s starting to affect his play in st louis

Every hockey player plays hurt at one point in their careers. Most even play through an injury that should keep them out of the lineup. It's just in our DNA to play through anything and be out there with our teammates. I'm no different. I've been playing through career long pain in my feet.

It started a while ago, where my feet would flare up and I wouldn't be able to even plant my feet on the ground. Team doctors looked at them and just tried to get the inflammation down as quick as possible. Most of the time it was cortisone shots, which helped with the pain and swelling. Basically once a week, my feet would do this and make walking or even putting my foot in a skate unbearable.

One off-season, we did some blood tests and found out the problem was a build up of uric acid, or gout. Now, I'm on medication to help limit the amount of flare ups I get. Here's hoping we've found a permanent solution.

While I’m not old, the aches and pains from my back and shoulders is definitely the area I have to get treatment on the most. Not sure how it happened, but I’m definitely always getting massages or treatments done for these areas. Maybe my shoulder pain comes from carrying Dale Miller (@dmills3) and Jax Duggan (@SecondSucks22) – the “bash bros” – so much early on in juniors? I’m still not sure, but that’s really the one thing that comes to mind.

My back, specifically my lower back, was definitely hockey related. I remember falling awkwardly in to the boards and since then I’ve been dealing with it. It has definitely gotten worse, but the training staff in LA have been great and they’ve been treating me whenever the pain comes back and gets bad. This could also have come from carrying the self-proclaimed bash bros a lot, but I think this is more hockey related than anything else. Thankfully treatment is great and now I don’t have that weight on me anymore.

Maxime took a stick in the face after being too close to a slapshot a couple of weeks back. Not only did this obviously hurt, but it's caused him to have some pretty severe migraines recently too. That's why he always huffs petrol right before the game. Not only is this undetectable on the mandatory drug tests, but it gets him completely buzzed and helps him feel less pain during the game. Sure, sometimes the accuracy of his play takes a toll because of it but you gotta do what you gotta do. The only problem for the training staff is that Maxime is very specific as to what he will huff. It has to be 95 octane, Shell brand and preferably delivered in a 600ml plastic coke bottle. The only downside he has found with it so far is it's ability to completely and utterly destroy all of his academic brain cells. Good thing he doesn't need those to whack a puck.

Unfortunately this season, Jimmy Slothface has had issues with pain in his arms, and it has only gotten worse as the season progresses. At first, the training staff could not pin point the reason why Jimmy's arms are so tired and achey all the time and then they realize what was different so far this season: he was scoring a lot more goals than he previously did. Jimmy has already matched his career high in goals and the current Season 50 is only half way done. This repetitive motion of lifting his arms in the air in celebration have really taken a toll on Jimmy's arm muscles. He has had to spend more time after games and before practices to make sure his arms are strong enough to continue putting up points for New Orleans. The training staff has including increased weight training and electrotherapy to treat the sore muscles. So far the training staff has done a fantastic job of keeping him game ready, but it will be interesting to see if Slothface's point production slips as his arms get progressively more tired.

For Kryyst, the primary pain is his knee. It doesn’t always bother him, but when it does… oh boy. It all stemmed from an injury in college. It was stupid male hijinks. A few buddies and him were at the top of a big hill in a hay wagon. They decided to ride it down the hill like you used to do as a kid in a radio flyer. Here’s the rub… it wasn’t a regular hill. It was a paved hill on a street. They knew it was a bad idea, but they went anyway. As they got towards the bottom of the hill, they noticed a car was coming in the cross street. They were going to be hit. In a moment of desperation they tried to turn the wagon parallel to the street. This didn’t quite as planned and Kryyst ended up slamming his knee into a curb. He didn’t have insurance he spent the next week lying on the couch in pain. Luckily the knee wasn’t broken but he had permanent knee damage that made the knee numb to the touch… but occasionally painful and week when he stands up or makes lateral movements…. Not so great a problem for a goalie. Luckily they make shots for that shit.

All off season, we train to avoid injuries or aches and pains, but in injuries and pains will always be part of the game. For AB2, he’s always had to be mindful of his ankles. Unfortunately, he’s never had strong ankles so you will find him often wearing weights on them when walking around the house or apartment. Before game time, he wraps his ankles tightly with tape just so they stay in place and don’t rotate on them. After games he’ll slab some A535 on it and just after holding some ice down on them. Some days are better than others, but again it’s all part of the game. He trained very hard this off-season to make sure he can avoid any type of lower body injury that may keep him sidelined. Recently, he’s been more open to CBD oil which is legal in Canada. He’s often order balm or drops and that appears to be working whenever the pain becomes too unbearable.

After playing a couple of seasons in the SMJHL now, the body is starting take quite a toll. I'm not the biggest hitter in the league so I will still try and throw the body around here and there. I also get a good amount of hits towards me so that could also be a reason why i'm sore. My back and my neck are the two biggest points of concern for me. I think having a good training staff always helps. I usually arrive early to games to start with my stretching with the trainers and to see the team chiropractor. On my own time, I find that marijuana helps a lot with my back pain. Over time, I can definitely say that it has progressively gotten worse. But I always try to take care of my body with the team specialists and for the time being it has been helpful.

With the increase in minutes this season, Ryan Shepard is starting to have some pain in his shoulders and back. As a weaker physical player he ends up taking a lot of hits going into the boards to play the puck against other teams and receives more than anyone else on the team. He feels as though his pregame meditation helps him mentally prepare for getting hit so often, and he also does stretches before and after. Once the game is finished and he's done his cool down stretches he ices for ten minutes then goes for a massage if it was a particularly bad game for him. The massage only focuses on the areas with soreness which is usually the shoulders and lower back. The trainer is great at his job and after all these steps to mitigate the damage, Shepard is feeling 100% for the next game. He's still young and quick to heal so there's no lingering soreness yet, but we'll see as his career moves along.
