Double Media - Week 1 - 1117 Words - Ready For Grading

Ronnie Westbrook was a hockey player who played a lot of hockey. Grew up on the streets of ireland hockey wasnt very popular but he still grinded it out cause he loved the game. Never did he think he was going to go pro but wow look where life can take ya. Too his surprise he got word from his agent that he had potential of being selected in the S30 SMJHL Draft. This shocked the young westbrook. But to his dismay he was selected in the 12th round I think with the 92nd overall pick. It might have been a really late pick, but that did not matter to the young Ronnie Westbrook, he was just happy to be playing junior hockey. Even if it was in St Louis hahaha.

My time in st louis was pretty dope. Spent a lot of time with some good doods. Got drafted with some good players, couple of them turned out to be SHL legends. One was Joe Kurczewski, he went on to have a pretty amazing career. Other one was Jason Visser, you could argue hes the greatest to ever do it! But I just knew him as a friend. Westbrook's first season in the SMJHL was a little rough for him. Only putting up 11 points in 50 games. The Scarecrows didnt't have good playoff success year but thats okay, they were young and the window for success was just opening. The S31 season was a little bit better for the West boi. He put up 26 points in 50 games. Even though his personal success grew exponentially, the teams success didn't improve by much. His good performance on the ice though got some shl scouts to notice him. The Seattle Riot picked Westbrook 15th overall in the S31 shl draft. Consider by many a reach at a time. But brother man Westbrook did not care, he was in the big leauges baby woop woop.

The big Ron Dog Westbrook started the season up with the Seattle Riot. He put up an assist in his 2nd game, good for his first SHL point. The Riot decided he wasn't yet cut out for the SHL life and was sent back down to the SMJHL. Westbrook returned to the St Louis Scarecrows for one more season in the SMJHL, this being the S32 season. This ended up being one of his worst seasons yet. He put up only 25 points while being a -26. This season bummed out Westbrook and he started losing the drive to play hockey. Very dark times for the boy. The Riot took notice of this and started to shop Westbrook around to other SHL teams. The Steelhawks kept pestering the Riot to acquire the young winger, and eventually gave in. Westbrook was traded to the Hamilton Steelhawks at the end of the s32 offseason.

Westbrook juice level went up 200% getting traded to the Steelhawks. He instantly gelled with the locker room. The Steelhawks put a lot of trust into Westbrook, naming him as the 2nd line center right off the bat. His first season in the SHL was a successful one. In 50 games he put up 32 points. Pretty impressive stuff from the first year player. The Steelhawks were definitely at the start of a long rebuild, so they were very bad in hist first season, despite Westbrook having a great individual season. But thats okay, Westbrook was excited to be a core player for the future of the Steelhawks. The S34 had a very similar story toe the S33 season. He had 34 points, but the Steelhawks were once again bottom feeders.

Oh boy now we to the the S35 offseason. A tale as old as time. Steelhawks team fell into shambles. Our co gm who was also our first line center demanded for a trade, as long with one of our top prospects. Boom two big players out the door. Then our starting goalie retired leaving us with a bum ass back up. A bunch of players went inactive. This was a real tough time for the Steelhawks. Westbrook felt loyal to the team so he stuck around. Though this did extend the Steelhawks rebuild by quite a few seasons. Tough times for the team no doubt.

As you can expect the s35 season was pretty awful for the steelhawks, though Westbrook did post then career high numbers with 41 points. The steelhawks did add a long term core member from the draft, Robert Phelps. The Steelhawks were still in the hell realm though. Long rebuild continues on into s36. S36 was a big time season for Westbrook he posted a point per game season for the first time in his career. Having 53 points in 50 games. The steelhawks once again missed the playoffs. This would continue throuigh 37 and 38. Westbrook would try to hard carry the dead corpse of the Steelhawks to the playoffs. But he was just not good enough despite having great individual seasons. However succcess for the steelhawks was just around the corner. stay tuned for more.

S39 was Westbroooks best season of his career. Man o man did he have a good season. 59 points wowie that was just a magical season for him. Steelhawks made the playoffs for the first time in his career. Now they got bounced out in the first round, but it was still a happy moment in his career.

S40 through S42 were frustrating seasons  for Ronnie. The team was finally good and making the playoffs was no longer in question. Westbrook was a star in the league you know just a really good time for him. But despite all this the Steelhawks could not make the finals one time. They lost in the second round for three seasons in a row. By the end of that 3rd season Westbrook lost most of the juice in his tank. And his best days  were behind him. It was time for Westbrook to take a smaller role to let some of the young guns to take over the team. Phelps would take on the mantle of the top line center for the long term.

Westbrook's final season was the s44 season. He would retire at the end of that season.

Westbrook had a very fine career going from a 92nd overall SMJHL draft pick into one of the best all time Steelhawks players. He had 511 career points which I believe puts him in the top 5 all time Steelhawks points. Pretty proud of that even though he never came close to sniffing the cup.

We used that hashtag/saying every single time a St. Louis draft pick would be bummed about "how low" they went in the J draft, like it mattered. Westbrook was awesome, for sure, and he's still underrated to this day. Those early Crow teams were stacked, we should've won more.
