Season 73 Predicitons
#1

With Season 73 almost upon us let’s take a few minutes and break down each team’s roster. Award projections, standings, and who we believe will be in the Four Star Cup.

There are a lot of storylines heading into season 73. Can St. Louis Repeat? Is this a make or break year for Vancouver? When will Maine’s dominance end? Who will be the next Four Star Cup Champion? All this and more with this year’s preview.

ANCHORAGE ARMADA:

Forwards:

S.71 Barg Hazbite (683 TPE) 425 – S.73 Ubba Lodbrok 342 TPE – S.72 Jospeh Reed (479 TPE) 425
S.73 Bongo 292 TPE – S.74 Fedot Federov 208 TPE – S.71 Finn Weib 292 TPE
S.74 Deep Thought 214 TPE – S.74 Benny Hanna 214 TPE – S.74 Lucki Blackwood 206 TPE

Defense:
S.71 Johnny Shuffleboard (653 TPE) 425 – S.72 Dan Johnston (489 TPE) 425
S.72 (471 TPE) 425 – S.72 Kazuchika Okada 419 TPE
S.73 Sim Wen (362 TPE) 350 – S.73 Jean-François Bokassa 306 TPE

Goalie :
S.74 Stun Gun – 208 TPE
Nicholas Scaline – 155 TPE

Good news bad news time for the Armada. GOOD NEWS, they have an incredible defensive core, and it is looking stronger and stronger. This defense will be the strength of their roster this season, and four players should be max capped by the end of the season at the very latest. BAD NEWS, they need defense to be nearly unstoppable as they are weak in net and their forward group is middle of the pack in strength and depth.

STRENGTHS:
Defense, best in the league? Maybe.
Hazbite and Reed are as good as any top wingers in the league.

WEAKNESS:
Goaltending could be corrected by the end of the season with enough training.
Center is lacking behind Lodbrok who at this point is better suited as a number 2.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CAROLINA KRAKEN:

Forwards:
S.71 Alexej Kastrba (747 TPE) 425 – S.71 Aumy Junior II (707 TPE) 425 – S.71 Filip Svatos (688 TPE) 425
S.72 Alexandros Mograine (515 TPE) 425 – S.73 Betzee Nickelback (367 TPE) 350 - S.71 Matt Stro (434 TPE) 425
S.72 Chris Robertson 365 TPE – S.73 Rence Sykut 312 TPE – S.73 Dag-Otto Björntjänst 214 TPE

Defense:
S.72 Lazer Gato (558 TPE) 425 – S.72 Westley Kirkpatrick (538 TPE) 425
S.71 Sillysauce Mctartersauce 234 TPE – S.73 Lilian Flapberg 221 TPE
S.74 Walter Melon 192 TPE – S.74 David Grimes 189 TPE

Goalie :
S.72 Sith Happens – 387 TPE
S.74 Josh Pyrate – 167 TPE

On a first glance the Carolina Kraken look to be early favourites to win it all. They have a ton of maxed out players on their roster, primarily on offense. Speaking of offense, they have some incredible depth from top to bottom with all of their forwards. Defense is top heavy, and they will be relying on a few forwards to play out of position to meet roster requirements. Goaltending is upper mid-tier, but it will need to Sith Happens to take a step forward while Josh Pyrate learns the ropes.

STRENGTH:
Offense. So much offensive potential
Sith is a very good goalie.

Weakness:
Defense is weak after top pair.
Josh Pyrate will need to grow in leaps and bounds to be prepared for Sith’s off nights.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
COLORADO RAPTORS:

Forwards:
S.73 Xavier Beausoleil (350 TPE) 366 – S.74 Shadow Fenix 190 TPE – S.73 Jussi Mutou (350 TPE) 359
S.73 James MacAvoy 213 TPE – S.74 Derek Kong 186 TPE – S.74 Brandon Gilleyes 190 TPE
S.74 Leonard Wood 188 TPE – S.74 Nick Kodiak 190 TPE – S.74 Christopolees 185 TPE

Defense:
S.71 David Anderson 385 TPE – S.73 Update Portal 335 TPE
S.73 Valerija Serapin 301 TPE – S.73 Nik Smith 296 TPE
S.73 Liam Rodgers 245 TPE – S.74 Oranj Konhe 208 TPE

Goalie:
S.74 Tanner Pitts 185 TPE
S. 71 Peter Lasma 155 TPE

The future is so bright here in Colorado. They have a ton of active players and depth coming up over the next few years they will become a force. As for right now they are looking a little outclassed on almost every level as they go through their rebuild. They have a good defenders and forwards but their best are second liners on most teams. Tanner Pitts will struggle this season as number one but it could help him become better for the future.

STRENGTH:
Youth is out of this world and could be the next Vancouver/St. Louis in a year or two.

WEAKNESS:
The entire roster is too young to be truly effective on making a cup run.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DETROIT FALCONS:

Forwards:
S.73 Prince Marius (368 TPE) 350 - S.72 Trevor Lahey (543 TPE) 425 – S.72 The Murray (568 TPE) 425
S.73 Kenny Omega (354 TPE) 350 – S.74 Emil Karlsson 219 TPE – S. 73 Mike Badcock 221 TPE
S.74 Will Tomlander 209 TPE – S.73 Luma Lee 165 TPE – S.74 Marek Carda 186 TPE

Defense:
S.72 Zedward Zilliams (575 TPE) 425 – S.73 Mephistopheles Morgonstjärna (365 TPE) 350
S.73 Dunkler Sowerwine 348 TPE – S.73 Gavin Harrison 229 TPE
S.74 Simo Jääskeläinen 190 TPE – S.74 Stormlord Imotekh 186 TPE
S.74 Martins Priede 185 TPE

Goalies:
S.72 Wayne Holloway (545 TPE) 425
S.74 Dako Nanokov 183 TPE

Detroit’s rebuild is coming along nicely. They have some amazing building blocks that could lead to a championship in a season or two. As for right now, they are lacking in fire power. The strength of this roster is on offense and goaltending as they need Holloway to hold the fort while The Murray and Tervor Lahey score as many goals as possible. Are they a cup contender, no. Could they make the playoffs and make some noise, yes.

STRENGTH:
The Murray and Trevor Lahey have a little more support this year, offense is looking better.
Wayne Holloway is a world class talent.

WEAKNESS:
Defense is a work in progress.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GREAT FALLS GRIZZLIES:

Forwards:

S.71 Levin Schattenaxt (752 TPE) 425 – S.73 Jani Mänty (385 TPE) 350 – S.71 Andren Akerson (705 TPE) 425
S.71 Andre Latreille 385 TPE – S.73 Jae-ik Barron (377 TPE) 350 – S.74 Gordon-William Gibbles 214 TPE
S.74 Austin Dodd 182 TPE - S.74 Poiklm 190 TPE – S.74 Andrejs Smits 160 TPE

Defense:

S.72 Billy Hill (555 TPE) 425 – S.72 RIP Thuderdome 2013-2023 (513 TPE) 425 TPE
S.72 Arnošt Hlemýžď (499 TPE) 425 – S.71 Bryson Basham 256 TPE
S.74 John Peanut 219 TPE – S.72 Oskar Samuelsson 172 TPE

Goalie:
S.72 Beau Kavanagh 556 TPE
S.74 Yves D'Odeur 219 TPE

Is this the year for Great Falls Grizzlies? It could be they are in the best position talent wise then they have been in years. A solid offensive group being led by Levin Schattenaxt and Andren Akerson. Their defense is anchored by three strong from season 72, If John Peanut can get close to maxing out by playoffs they will be well suited for a cup run. They have a top notch goalie and a great back up.

Strength:
Goaltending is an amazing duo
Good forward and defensive depth.
Almost entire roster appears to be active.

Weakness:
Bottom defense pairing will be weak.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KELOWNA KNIGHTS:

Forwards:

S.73 Daniel Durkburg 350 TPE - S.71 Kevin Kim (653 TPE) 425 – S.72 Arthur Kaliyev (527 TPE) 425
S.72 Trey Daniels 328 TPE - S.72 Activity Check (562 TPE) 425 – S.71 Crystal McLeod 344 TPE
S.74 - Rodrigo Banes 213 TPE - S.73 David Soupre 223 TPE – S.74 Jerry Moonshine 197 TPE

Defense:

S.72 Rocky Orwell (466 TPE) 425 – S.73 Ho Lee Smokes (377 TPE) 350
S.73 Brooklyn Physt (371 TPE) 350 – S.73 Jonas Salat 347 TPE
S. 74 Paul Bondage 204 TPE – S.74 Pablo Icecrembar 186 TPE

Goalie :
S.73 Five-Hole Sieve 326 TPE
S.72 Bradaigh Lomax 155 TPE

I have said it before and I will say it again, I believe Kelowna is one season away from becoming a cup contender. They have solid depth on their forward lines, and their defense is coming along nicely. Goaltending right now is average but could be top tier in the next season. Everything is developing well, but they are lacking high end firepower to compete with the top end teams in the league. Playoff team, yes. Championship team, not yet.

STRENGTH:
Center is looking strong with some good support on the wings.
Amazing foundation.

WEAKNESS:
Hindered by capped 2nd year players.
Goaltending is average.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MAINE TIMBER:

Forward:

S.71 Logan Webb (766 TPE) 425 – S.71 Shooting Blanks (689 TPE) 425 – S.72 Maxwell King II 379
S.71 Bear Trapp 325 TPE - S.71 Morgan Delfield 377 TPE – S.73 Jordan Thompson (375 TPE) 350
S.72 Cameron Dallas 317 TPE – S.74 Ace Guilded 191 TPE - S.73 Wain Gretski 225 TPE
S.74 Julian Kuznatsov 187 TPE – S.74 Dwayne Swanson 185 TPE – S.74 Icee Richradson 172 TPE

Defense:

S.71 Mick Mayhem (525 TPE) 425 – S.72 Buster Knutt 369 TPE
S.73 Jeff Goldblum (367 TPE) 350 – S.72 Leon Rizzton 365 TPE
S. 71 Merle Van Nistelrooy 307 TPE – S.74 Teal’c 209 TPE

Goalie:

S.72 Nelly Celly 251 TPE
S.74 Gewmba Stolemamoney 214 TPE

The Maine Timber are doing one more kick at the can this year and going for it, staving off a rebuild. They have a big task this year as number one goalie Bernard Lodge has moved up and the majority of their firepower has moved up as well. Still, they have a solid overall offense and their defense is looking good. They will need Nelly Celly or new comer Gewmba Stolemamoney to take a big step forward if they hope to be a championship team instead of a playoff team.

STRENGTH:
Defense only has one capped out star but overall is solid top to bottom.
As always in Maine, lots of active newcomers.

WEAKNESS:
Lack of topped out stars.
Goaltending is a question mark to star the season.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NEVADA BATTLEBORN:

Forward:

S.72 Aksel VINSen (465 TPE) 425 - S.71 Thomas Sawschuk (698 TPE) 425 – S.71 Brock Samson (550 TPE) 425
S.74 Cal Juice 219 TPE - S.72 Colin Zwiers 197 TPE – S.73 Patrick Meyer 217 TPE
S.74 Milk Jones 155 TPE - Petr Puklington 167 TPE – S.74 Jake Berry 183 TPE

Defense:

S.71 Schnopple Lopple (567 TPE) 425 – S.73 Unspeakable Horror (353 TPE) 350
S.72 I-Stir MyPudding 316 TPE – S.74 Sergey Ivanov 215 TPE
S.72 Shaggy Bear 160 TPE – S.72 Trevor Parson 155 TPE

Goalie:
S.74 Yerik Akmetzhanov 203 TPE
S.71 Chad Chadwick 155 TPE

Gone are the days of dominance for the Nevada Battleborn. It looks like this is the last hurray before a rebuild session for their roster. The good news, they have some strength now to make a playoff run and they have some nice pieces in place for a quick rebuild for the future. Overall They have a solid top 4 in defense and an amazing top line. How the rest of the roster shakes out will show us how good of a team they can be for this season.

STRENGTH:
First line is ridiculous good.
Tons of active rookies, future looks good.

Weakness:
Goaltending, relying on a rookie as a starter is risky.
Bottom half of the roster is weaker.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
QUEBEC CITY CITTADELLES

Forwards:

S.72 Lean On (Coconut Mall) Dry Saddle-Heghog 285 TPE - S.72 Jeff Hunziker (521 TPE) 425 – S.73 Ryland Murphy (366 TPE) 350
S.73 Nico Nurminen 256 TPE – S.74 Frøya Solberg 213 TPE – S.73 Ivan Scochnikov JR 253 TPE
S.74 Shawn Pawn 219 TPE – S.74 Sonja Solberg 213 TPE – S.74 Donny Dangle 211 TPE
S.74 Tom Sperado 206 TPE

Defense:

S.72 Jaromir Jagerbomb (569 TPE) 425 – S.74 Johnny Patey V2 214 TPE
S.74 Juan Tymer 211 TPE – S.74 Leo Roze 209 TPE
S.74 Céleste Desjardins 200 TPE – S.72 Daquavion Davis Jr 196 TPE

GOALIE:
S.71 Net Man 362 TPE
S.74 Fergus Stewar 155 TPE

Quebec is still trying to rebuild their roster since their last cup win in season 69 (nice). It has been a rocky road but they seem to have done well with this last draft. Unfortunately, I don’t think the pieces are in place for this season and may not even next season. If they continue down this path they could be a force in 3 seasons.

STRENGTH:
Jaromir Jagerbomb and Jeff Hunzkier is a top notch star in the SMJHL.

WEAKNESS:
Depth across the roster is in full rebuild mode, lack of established stars will hurt.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
REGINA ELK:

Forwards:

S.71 Mercedes Bayle (761 TPE) 425 – S.72 Rowan O'Beirne (559 TPE) 425 – S.71 Just-to-Buy My-Love (592 TPE) 425
S.73 Mac Turner (353 TPE) 350 – S.73 Red Panda 251 TPE - S.72 Adrians Skalbergs 422 TPE
S.72 Ana Parast 303 TPE – S.74 Future Considerations 201 TPE - S.74 Masataka Ninomiya 206 TPE

Defense:

S.71 Boho Biscuit (538 TPE) 425 – S.72 Phillipe Le Belle 390 TPE
S.73 Guy Incognito (383 TPE) 350 – S.73 Jasper Wahls 223 TPE
S.74 Bartholomew Chungus Gingersnap III 219 TPE – S.74 Mikkel Enevoldsen 213 TPE

Goalie:
S.71 Ally Mathieson (432 TPE) 425
S. 72 Zach Cuffy Jr. 211 TPE

Is this the year for the Regina Elk? They have the talent on their roster to make a run for the cup. A true number one goalie, good offense, and solid defense. If they are going to make good on this opportunity they need their younger players to set up and really train hard or it will be another wasted year. They are close but they are not a sure thing.

STRENGTH:
Their top line forward line is phenomenal.
No real soft lines on defense.
Ally Mathieson is a top goalie.

WEAKNESS:
They lack top stars the true contenders have on their rosters.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ST. LOUIS SCARECROWS:

Forwards:

S.71 Marshall Madden (585 TPE) 425 - S.71 Dominik Winters (744 TPE) 425 – S.72 König Wolf (545 TPE) 425
S.71 Crazy Tomato (536 TPE) 425 – S.72 Sunrise van de Schubbekutteveen (468 TPE) 425 – S.73 Axel Hämäläinen 335 TPE
S.72 Kellen Watkins 268 TPE – S.74 Dave Richardson 160 TPE - S.74 Bobby Bob 155 TPE

Defense:

S.72 Artturi Lappalainen (512 TPE) 425 – S.72 Dee Fence 215 TPE
S.74 Bog Damsel 191 TPE

Goalie:
S.71 Kyle Baretto 372 TPE
S.74 Mr Plow 201 TPE

Alright, clearly St. Louis has been fully updated in their page’s profile. They had more picks that had not been assigned at the time of writing, but we still can get a clear look at their next season. This team will be a tough team to handle offensively, with a top 6 that is the envy of the league. Their defense is suspect, and goaltending is good but not great. Meaning every game will likely be a high scoring affair, Still I bet they will likely win more games than lose.

STRENGTH:
OFFENSE, all offense

WEAKNESS:
Defense is lacking after Artturi.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
VANVCOUVER WHALERS:

Forwards:

S.71 Thomas Liebold (776 TPE) 425 – S.72 Colt Fox (449 TPE) 425 - S.71 Johnny FourStar (719 TPE) 425
S.71 Inactive Forever (587 TPE) 425 – S.72 Scott Seitz 388 TPE – S.73 Nick Larsson 347 TPE
S.73 Lily Jin Morrow 333 TPE – S.71 Larry Johnson The 3rd 228 TPE – S.74 Erno Joonas 219 TPE
S.74 GM's Son 213 TPE

Defense:

S.71 Bellamy Blake (734 TPE) 425 – S.71 Ryan Quintana-Green (653 TPE) 425
S.72 Remington Richardson III (551 TPE) 425 – S.71 Bob Wehadababyitsaboy 425 TPE
S.72 Jaden Tanner 405 TPE – S.73 Graham Schwartz 320 TPE
S.72 Grell Fortox 260 TPE

Goalie:

S.71 Scary Jerry (577 TPE) 425
S.74 Joulu Kuusi 198 TPE

It has to happen for Vancouver at some point right? This team has a ridiculous wealth of talent on their roster 9 players maxed out through their roster and solid depth surrounding those players. With few weaknesses and overwhelming talent this is the cup favourites this year. The question is can they put the lines combinations and strategies in the right order to win it all?

STRENGTH:
…everything, they are overloaded in talent.

WEAKNESS:
The future, they are in an amazing spot right now, but 6 of 9 maxed players are moving on next season.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
YUKON MALAMUTES:

Forwards:

S.71 Jordan Tanner 404 TPE – S.73 Bobby Tkachuky (375 TPE) 350 - S.71 Theodore Svatoš (752 TPE) 425
S.74 Langston Hardison-Laurent 211 TPE - S.73 Florian Söderberg-Motyla (372 TPE) 350 – S.74 Squidwardo Tentaclés 211 TPE
S.74 Lightning McQueen 168 TPE - S.73 Vyacheslav Shevchenko 248 TPE – S.74 Fred Bread 211 TPE

Defense:

S.71 Furious Chicken (781 TPE) 425 – S.73 Kristian Seppanen (368 TPE) 350
S.73 The Great Khali 291 TPE – S.74 Jaxson Reaper 219 TPE
S.74 Kaarlo Koivunen 211 TPE – S.74 Newton "Lizard" Campbell 211 TPE

Goalie:
S.73 Jim Wen 303 TPE
S.72 Ryker Johnasson 194 TPE

They have some good things going on with the Yukon and the future looks bright. This year looks like a playoff team but they will struggle to go deep unless they get a little puck luck. The forwards are being led by Theodore Svatos but he is the only maxed out forward on their roster. Defense is the same with Furious Chicken. If you are a Yukon fan, you have to be excited about the future, but this is not the season to push all in and go for a cup.

STRENGTH:
Furious Chicken is on another level as a defender.
Theodore Svatos is as talented as any other forward.

WEAKNESS:
Lack of top stars will hurt.
Goaltending lacks a true number one.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NEWFOUNDLAND BERSERKERS

Forwards:

S.72 Dan Craig (534 TPE) 425 – S.73 Sad Ketchup (371 TPE) 350 - S.71 Erik Erikson (450 TPE) 425
S.71 Heem Team 329 TPE – S.72 Dylan Jacob-Smith 297 TPE – S.73 Entropy Sanchez 281 TPE
S.73 Roman Roy 252 TPE – S.74 Mac Griddle 213 TPE – S.74 Cracker Pizza 213 TPE
S.74 sabage cabage 211 TPE – S.73 Harry Sachs 211 TPE – S.74 Pierre Mailloux 201 TPE
S.74 Sean O’Connor 185 TPE

Defense:
S.71 Adelbert Stiener (569 TPE) 425 – S.72 Wes Thunderbass 354 TPE
S.73 Ondrej von Stoodrick 308 TPE – S.72 Sean Bird 261 TPE

Goalie:
S.73 Ben Harrison 247 TPE
S.73 Rory Dallyn 155 TPE

I am sure a forward or two will work their way onto defense to even out the lineup. Newfoundland is trying to find their form again; we can’t quite call it a rebuild but they have lost their top of the league strangle hold they held onto for such a long time. The strength of this roster is their offense, they have a lot of weapons to utilize, but it does lack the punch some of the top tier teams have. Their defense is also good, but get a slight knock as they will rely on out of position players to top them up.

STRENGTH:
Top line can go toe to toe with any other in the league.
Adelbert Stiener is a world class defender at the SMJHL level.

WEAKNESS:
Goaltending is suspect.

With a projected lineup for each team the question becomes how will it all play out and where will these teams end up in the standings? This is next to impossible to predict as the randomness of divisions comes into play and FHM8 in general can just decide to do the unexpected. Still I will take my best shot at it. Finishing at the top of the league this year will be:

Vancouver Whalers
Carolina Kraken
St. Louis Scarecrows
Great Falls Grizzlies
Regina Elk
Nevada Battleborn
Maine Timber
Kelowna Knights
Yukon Malamutes
Newfoundland Berserkers
Anchorage Armada
Detroit Falcons
Quebec City
Colorado Raptors

AWARD PROJECTIONS:

Fallah (MVP): Alexej Kastrba (CAR)
Agante (Top Defender): Bellamy Blake (VAN)
Robinson (Goalie): Scary Jerry (VAN)
Anrikkanen (Rookie): Gordon-William Gibbles (GFG)

FOUR STAR CUP WINNER:
Whalers VANCOUVER WHALERS Whalers
beats Carolina Kraken in 6 games

I'd argue that Svatos may be better than any forward
