S73 PT#5: I'm Gonna Win The Cupyright
#61

Written Task: If your player got traded to a new team, how would they go about adjusting and learning the new system?

I feel that Nik would do what he would always do. It's not about learning a new system that would be hard for him. Nik is primarily a defensive specialist. He plays defense and stops shots. Leading the league by and far in a large margin in blocked shots on a team that did struggle producing on offence and with only a -3 plus minus score. I feel that Nick is a drag and drop kind of player who could play for anybody he can pass and play defense whichever team needs a defender to do. You move him across the country he will play defend well and block shots and gets his task done and could play anywhere. Granted i would like to stay in Colorado as long as possible.

Written task 2

If I got traded in the SMJHL which can't happen anymore because this was my last year I could be traded if I was still in the SMJHL and I don't know any of the teams systems in the SHL so let's just pretend that I'm still in the J and not going to get called up to Minnesota or the SHL next season. Both the Kelowna Knights and my player is more defensive than being offensive so if I would be traded to the very offensively driven team the Nevada Battleborn, I would have to adjust my game more offensive so I can produce points as a center to get assists and goals. Also if my team was a little bit better than a bottom dwelling team Kelowna seems to be with me, I would also have to improve my defense so that I could not just be a good point producer but also keep in pace of the better teams offences too.

OPTION 2 - WRITTEN TASK

It's a bit ironic, because late in the S73 Aumy Junior II got traded in SMJHL. Carolina "Kraken" sent him to Vancouver "Whalers", because they both agreed to. I think that it's more based on the situation though. Sometimes player wants to get traded and he feels good on the new team no matter what. However, small things changes only. I can only say what changed for me. Went from friendly locker room to more toxic one. More unfriendly people, but maybe it helps to win a cup, I don't know. Player has to feel welcomed, but sometimes it is what it is. Learning new system can be tough, but I don't think that teams nowadays here are so different. Systems are pretty similar and there shouldn't be anything hard to do for players. New system isn't hard if there are players and coaches who helps to understand everything. It's individual on any team though. Wouldn't say it's perfect in Vancouver. Vancouver has better results, Carolina has better system, for example. It's different everywhere.

First things first, I'd feel absolutely backstabbed. Yes, Micool has been saying "im gonna win the cup" for ages, but has anyone ever actually asked where micool got it? Well, let me tell you about a windy September morning in 1998. The leaves were just starting to show the first signs of turning yellow. It looked more like the leaves themselves were nauseous than actually the turn of the season. Even though it was windy, the sun still shone brightly. School had just begun and micool and I were walking to our theater classes. Senior year meant senior projects. We had been sharing ideas back and forth since sophomore year. He was writing a play about a nun who wanted to compete in the olympics, and I was writing a musical about the police force. We had breakthroughs in our stories at about the same time, so we spent hours every night talking over each other about how our stories were going to develop and what the characters names were and so forth. Well, micool could never remember the name of my protagonist, Ima Gahnawen. So, every time I was explaining a plot point to him, I had to say exactly this phrase so that he could remembers: "Ima Gahnawen, the cop." Eventually, it became such a joke between the two of us, that he would just look at me some times and say "are you Ima Gahnewen, the cop?"
One day, a mutual classmate of ours who had a crush on micool turned around as class was starting and asked him blankly, "what sport do you play?"
Micool looked confused. "Hockey...how did you know?"
"Well, you're always talking about the cup you're gonna win."
Micool stared blankly for a moment, then it clicked. She was talking about Ima.
From then on, Micool adapted the phrase "im gonna win the cup" from this hilarious misunderstanding. So the fact that he would even think about suing one of my kids for saying the phrase that came from one of MY characters is blasphemous.

If Valerija Serapin was traded, it wouldn't be a big deal. The life of a vagrant was her childhood experience so as an adult it is nothing she hasn't done before. She always travels light, never carrying more that she needs. She would give away or sell most of her stuff she doesn't want to take with her. In a day or so she would be with her new team and seemly completely moved on. That is how thing would look on the outside. In her mind things would be very different. She  plays hockey because the team feels like  a family to her. To find out that a team that loved her was sending her away would mirror source of childhood trauma. She would feel betrayed, unloved, and depressed. A conversation with her adoptive hockey coach dad is enought to overcome the dark thoughts in her head. So while externally, she will seem ok, internally she won't be at least for a little while.

Prompt 2

For M’Baku Olubori to get traded to a new team, that would mean the ownership finally got fed up with Johnny Hamilton and ran him out of Maryland. At this point, that looks unlikely but you never know. Baku is pretty well cemented in the tapestry of Baltimore sports through his philanthropic work in the community trying to bring hockey to a broader demographic (cough cough Baltimore’s population is over 60% Black and…. the arena doesn’t reflect that most nights cough cough).

If he were to join another team, Baku would waste no time trying to jump into the system. To date he’s played in 5 different systems: his pre-junior days in Switzerland, the system in Regina, two different schemes Baltimore, as well as Sweden’s international team. In this league, everyone plays incredibly aggressive, high tempo schemes. With that, Baku can pretty easily slide into any team’s forward group and contribute. He’s played both on the wing and (multiple times) at center. While some of the center experiments haven’t worked (see his later seasons in Regina and some spurts with Baltimore), it seems this season he finally found his stride in the middle. The hardest part may be figuring out his teammates’ tendencies. The last few years, he’s played extensively with some of the same people, and gotten pretty used to them. Hell, he’s played the better part of six seasons with Lord Raiden, the undying captain of the Platoon. Swapping linemates may be the hardest part, but he’s proven skill playing all 3 forward positions. He’ll be okay.

If Graj Virrok were ever to be traded, he knows that it would be for one of two reasons. The first reason would be that he has been deemed too old to continue to play for the Philadelphia Forge and he has a couple career records he wants to chase. In this case, he believes that he would be traded for a second round pick, maybe a third as well. The second reason would be if a team were to offer such a kings ransom for him that Philadelphia simply could not resist but to accept. We're talking 3 first round picks, a replacement player that max earns and is 5 seasons younger, an IA replacement of pretty decent TPE, and a couple second swaps type haul. In either case, Graj would fully understand the reason that he is being traded and would almost certainly have a huge amount of input on his final landing destination. He understands that Philly wouldn't accept a trade for him unless he approved and it was a situation that he thought he could succeed in, and in that case he'd walk into his new building with a smile and a huge adoration for Philadelphia still in his heart.

Jarrod Lakemore is a strong personality and is a believer in the way he plays. If he were traded to another team, he wouldn't be changing the way he plays or adjusting to his teammates. Surely any team that would trade for him would do their homework and understand what he brings to the table and refrain from attempting to mold him into something that he is not. Lakemore is an aggressive, physical player who plays with high energy and often sets the tone for his team. He stubbornly believes this role is important on any team and even though he may not be a superstar or putting up league leading numbers, he still expects his team to adjust to him more than vice versa. Fortunately for Lakemore, a physical, relentlessly checking player who is hounds the puck defensively and has just enough skill to slot into any line, or at least effectively park himself in front of the goalie on offense is a player that just about any team can find a use for.
