Scott Stevens
@Daco

One of the older players you might know! Mainly just from the award, the Scott Stevens away for best defenseman. One of the early stars of the SHL, Stevens racked up a ton of those awards in his time. Now with award criteria changing, and him being a player 13-14 IRL years ago. It's a good time to look at what made him a dominant player at that time, and why he is on this list. Drafted in S1, at 22nd OA overall to the Hamilton Steelhawks. Stevens would begin his journey there.

From S1-S4 Stevens played in the 40GP era. S5 saw a 44 GP season, S6 saw a 60 game season, then S7&8 were the standward 50. Also worth noting that S1-5 were the dead puck era. And then S6-8 were the Experimental Era’s. Stevens played in a much different time than anyone is used to.

S1 saw Stevens have 1 goal, 9 assists for 10 points, with 83 hits and 79 shots blocked. Now that's a really shitty statline. Back then it was good enough for a Scott Stevens Nomination. Leading the SHL in shots blocked, and the 4th highest defenseman in hits. S2 was the same points wise. 2 goals, 8 assists for 10 points. An increase to 147 hits and 58 shots blocked. He earned his 2nd Scott Stevens nomination. Leading the league in hits and was 7th in shots blocked. He got his 2nd Stevens nomination from that.

S3 rolled around, and what do you know. He got his 3rd Nomination! 3 in 3 seasons. S3 though saw Scott Stevens get traded to the Vancouver Ice Wolves(Tampa bay today). Vancouver got Stevens and a 4th, whereas Hamilton got Freddy Dorchy and 2 1sts for him. With 1 goal, 16 assists for 17 points. This is a career high for him. Along with 110 hits and 50 shots blocked. He was 2nd in hits and 8th in shots blocked. He earned that 3rd Stevens nom.

S4 was another excellent season by Stevens. With 1 goal, 13 assists for 14 points. With 87 hits and 36 shots blocked. Stevens again was a league leader in hits. Being 3rd in the league in hits. Leading to his 4th Scott Stevens nomination in 4 seasons. Albeit he did not win a single one.

S5 is when he finally changed that. Putting up a career high of 3 goals, 21 assists for 24 points over 44 games played. Scott Stevens once again was a leader in hits. His 94 hits ranked 4th in the league in hits, and his 66 shots blocked ranked 9th in the league. Not to mention his 23 points over that time was 29th during that time. And maybe 2nd or 3rd by a defenseman I believe. He won his first Scott Stevens Award this season! Along with a Ron Mexico Nomination.
S6, Stevens went to the Los Angeles Panthers. I am not sure how, but he did. On the Panthers, he put up another career high in points. In 60 games played, Stevens scored 4 goals, 22 assists for 26 points. Along with 106 hits and 95 shots blocked.Good for 11th in the league in hits, and in shots blocked he was 2nd. He also won his first and only Challenge Cup with the Los Angeles Panthers, their first in their 2 season year old franchise too. For this, Stevens was nominated for the 6th time. So in 7 seasons, he was nominated 6 times and won once.

S7 was the first time he did not get nominated for the Stevens at all. With 1 goal and 12 assists for 13 points. Along with 103 hits and 75 shots blocked.

S8 would be his last season. Getting traded to the West Kendall Platoon, Stevens would go on to have his best offensive career yet. In 50 games played, he scored 7 goals, 30 assists for 37 points. Along with his standard 128 hits and 86 shots blocked. Good for 1st in hits and  1st in shots blocked. He won his final Scott Stevens Award. He was also nominated for the Anton Razov. With that he retired.

Never an offensive juggernaut, Stevens retired with 356 games played, 20 goals, 131 assists for 151 points. 859 hits, 545 shots blocked. His legacy is cemented by the award being named after him. 7 / 8 seasons he either won the award or was nominated for. That can't be taken away, even though the voting has drastically changed over that time. That's why he is 72nd on the top 75.

With all the change the league has seen, including pretty impactful sim engine changes, it is great to see the history and stars from the past highlighted as they inevitable did or are going to lose their spots on most all time stats lists.

Exited to see where this list takes us as we get closer to number one
