However, the chants of Sloppy Joe and opposing teams' trash-talk seemed to alter Degen’s mindset and confidence. Degen went on to take an absence of leave, abandoning the Badgers and leaving fans wondering.

Degen would not return to college hockey, only to recently announce his aspirations as a player in the SHL. Degen seems to be a target to a few teams looking for that quarterbacking right-handed defensemen that can play both sides. However, some teams wonder if his head is in the right place and whether they'll get Joe Degen, Wisconsin Badger, or... Sloppy Joe. Who will take the risk on Joe Degen?
