Hey everybody it's Dale Murphy here, and I've been sent to Norway to check in on Team USA in the IIHF.

And Team USA is not having a great tournament to date. Having played 9 games already, they have just 12 points, placing them in a tie for the 4th spot in Group A with Czechia. When you pride yourself on being a premier hockey country, you have got to be better than 4th in your group.
As an aside, Latvia has just 11 points, but only played 7 games. They have a higher point percentage than the States, and could leave the Americans out of the medal round.

And last season was not much better, they fell in the quarterfinals to the Swiss, although they did finish 2nd in Group A last year.

The Americans do need to turn something around. 
Benson Fiorentini leads the team with 11 points, on the back of 10 assists, the 10 assists are good for a tie for the tournament lead as of today.
But their issue is quite simple- they have no other leaders anywhere.. Except for PIM, where Dusty Rhodes at 19 is tied for the tournament lead and Nathan Meagher at 14 is tied for third.

The Americans do lead Group A in scoring with 30 goals for. Canada, having played just 7 games has 25, does have more goals per game. Haven given up 32, they are 2nd to just Czechia in inability to play defense.


This has not been a good tourney to date for the States. They do need to turn something around. Fast.
