Story Time! Read on, and ye shall see!
#1

This is kind of like all the Be A GM things people did where everyone created players. Except this isn't sports, nor is anything being simulated. I created a very complex backstory based on a dream I had Friday night, and now I want to write stories in this dream world. Read on.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the year 2013, an older man from the Holy City named Yosef Lehman got into more than a little trouble with the Israeli government. Tired of dealing with the politics and craziness of Israel, Lehman began building for himself an underground residence, assisted by new olim (immigrants to Israel) in the form of the Powers family, parents and two boys from New York, and the Bloombergs, a young couple from Toronto.
The underground compound began as a small thing. Three families, small living spaces, and everyone still went aboveground to go about their daily lives. But after a little incident in which some IDF troops tried to break in, Yosef’s entire mindset changed. The compound began expanding, until it was essentially a large city. Built around a wide path called the Beltway, the community featured spacious living spaces, schools, gardens with artificial sunlight, and just about everything else needed to run a community. Lehman and his original compatriots went out above and recruited people of skills to join them down below. Soldiers, authors, teachers, musicians, anyone with a very good talent was invited to go down the rabbit hole (needless to say, not EVERYONE accepted. Some people enjoyed having real sunlight).
At this point, in the year 2016, the compound now known as Machteret (the Hebrew word for “underground”) is a hustling and bustling city, full of culture and people of all types. The people of Machteret are on good relations with the people of Israel. Schoolchildren in Machteret often go on field trips aboveground, and vice versa.
But things are not quiet on all fronts. The Moshlim, or governors, are dealing frequently with delinquents trying to cause trouble for the “toppers.” The same is occurring up above in the local courts. There are even rumours that a gunfight broke out by one of the rabbit holes farther north. Only time will tell what happens.
I don’t want to do all the work. So I’m asking all of you to create characters, and I will tell stories about them. Every character will get at least one story all about them. You might get more if I really like your character. Use the following form to tell me what to write about. Be as absolutely detailed as you can.
Code:
[b]Name:[/b]
[b]Age: [/b]
[b]Occupation: [/b]
[b]Reason for being recruited: [/b]
[b]Reason for accepting: [/b]
[b]Appearance: [/b]
[b]Personality: [/b]
[b]General information: [/b]
[b]Backstory: [/b]
Please note that Yosef Lehman is reserved (Joey), as is the elder Powers boy (since he’s based on me).
Here is an example:
Quote:[b] Name: Yehudah Powers
Age: 19
Occupation: Police officer/guard
Reason for being recruited: Helped to found Machteret back in ’13.
Reason for accepting: Founder.
Appearance: Tall, slightly chubby, short dark hair, big hands, one pale red splotch on either cheek.
Personality: Equal parts crazy and sullen,  tries to stay focused on his job (but it’s really tough, because ADHD and sugar and stuff), has trouble dealing with people, gets angry easily, often forgets what he’s talking about and gets distracted, uncomfortable around kids (much as they seem to love him), big proponent of fairness
General information: Has a slight stutter, stumbles over his words, lover of sports (especially baseball and hockey), generally good grades, still a patriotic American
Backstory: Yehudah was born in New York way back in early 1997, making him nineteen years old as we begin our story. He grew up in a modern orthodox Jewish family, going to Jewish day schools and summer camps. When his parents decided to make aliya (move to Israel), he was understandably disappointed. All of his friends were in the United States, all of his sport teams; almost everything he knew was Stateside. But his parents were adamant, so to the Middle East they went.
While Yehudah and his brother Daniel were surprisingly happy in Israel (despite missing their old lives horribly), their parents were not, and Mr. & Mrs. Powers jumped at the chance to help Yosef build his new world.  Yehudah grew to love the compound, despite not being able to have friends over. That being said, he was almost glad when the failed invasion inspired Mr. Lehman to expand in size and population.
These days, Yehudah is very happy with his life. His parents (for the most part) leave him alone, and he is free to go about his duties as both a guard and teenager. Would he go and return to the aboveground life? That’s a tough question.[/b]
Sounds interesting, I would give it a shot Smile
Name: David Schneider
Age: 24
Occupation: Administrative Officer, responsible for Communications and PR
Reason for being recruited: Nobody really seems to know and some people expect that there was something shady going on that got him in there (See Backstory)
Reason for accepting: Not publicly known either, but he seems to enjoy his job there so that might be the reason
Appearance: About 6'1 with middle-long to short brown hair, pretty average build, relatively muscular but not an intimidating physical force, his piercing blue eyes but infectious lough can make for a pretty weird combination
Personality: Very eloquent speaker, can talk his way out of all kinds of situations, friendly guy in general with a good sense of humor, to the extent that it can sometimes be tough to get him to take things seriously, or at least so it seems. Gets along with almost everyone but seems to have very few, if any, close friends in the compound.
General information: Seems to be relatively wealthy although he doesn't seem to care much for showing it, the only exception is his usually elegant clothing, gets uncomfortable in unexpected situations, but usually regains his calm quickly, is open-minded and willing to forgive when someone makes a mistake, but when someone wrongs he doesn't forget... Is very rational, sometimes to the point of being considered arrogant, and sometimes clashes with other people who have strong beliefs (e.g. religious beliefs) because of that, he himself is not religious at all.
Backstory: Was born in Germany and has no obvious ties to Israel or the compound, which makes people wonder why he came here and, more importantly, who invited him. His family still ives in Germany but he seems to have made some friends in his time in Israel, none of who live in the compound though. Graduated from a big German university and came to Israel right after, he joined the compound about half a year after leaving Germany, and has been there for a few months now.
Name:Icicle
Age: Unknown
Occupation: Official title is unknown, but he appears to be some version of a mob enforcer.
Reason for being recruited: He's massive, intimidating, and efficient at what he does.
Reason for accepting: $$$
Appearance: About 6'8" tall and a very solid 275 pounds, he is barrel chested and has hands that are thick and powerful. His face has not been seen, as he is always wearing a mask that covers about 80% of his features.
Personality: Almost always silent except when he talks quietly to himself. Those who have heard him speak usually go white in the face and move on quickly. The consensus is that is is insane. When he mutters, it is usually about reality not being what it seems and about how everyone but him is a lie and either an illusion or a robot.
General information: Anything not listed above is unknown.
