Update to the Rulebook
#1

While we thought we had a rule in place for this, turns out there wasn't one written in the rulebook so we are here to fix this.

Releasing Actives/Inactives
-Actives can be released from their contracts, but the releasing team must take a cap hit equal to half of that player's salary for each year that was left on the deal. That released player also cannot sign with the team that released them for one full season
-If the player does sign with the releasing team after a full season, the cap hit penalty is still enforced, but doesn't include the new deal.

As an example:

Active Player A
S21: $2.0mil
S22: $2.0mil
S23: $2.0mil

Team 1 releases player A from their contract, but must take a $1.0mil (half their salary) cap hit for each of those 3 seasons left in the contract. If player A signs with team 1 after a full season, the team would still have to take the half cap hit until the end of S23.

If the salaries aren't the same for each season:

Active Player A
S21: $2.0mil
S22: $3.0mil
S23: $4.0mil

S21 cap hit would be $1.0mil
S22 cap hit would be $1.5mil
S23 cap hit would be $2.0mil

Shouldn't be allowed to release anyone. Don't sign the contract if you aren't prepared to honor it.

Yeahthat

This is a good rule change to start to combat all the releases that happen due to cap troubles.

not allowing any releases would kind of be ridiculous tbh
i don't think any contract in the history of mankind is ineligible to be terminated?
