Esa.

Dude transitioned to center and had to reprioritize his build to plug a hole in Calgary. Led his team in Faceoff percentage and was far and above everyone else in +/- (I know the debate about +/- being a junk stat, but I put some stock into it). He ramped up his physical game, played with much more of an edge then in previous seasons. Calgary might have struggled, but Esa was a rock.

Magnus Jakobsen.

It was a tough vote. Onoprienko and Esa both has great seasons. Obviously the Steelhawks had a much stronger team upfront than Winnipeg, but Jakobsen largely took control of his team and led by a fair amount when it came to points. Another good representation of how large of an asset Jakobsen is is the fact that the Hamilton Steelhawks missed the playoffs during his suspension in S22, yet, yet rebounded to the playoffs during S23. I wouldn't call Winnipeg necessarily weak either. They have one of the best goalies in net, so he gives the team a huge edge. Winning the goal scoring title and point title is another big thing imo and Jakobsen's +/- was decent. As Ono said, junk stat, but imo, it means a bit.

LOL

Ono vs Jakobson

both had the 24 Goals
Jakobsen 4 Assists more
Jakobsen on 1st Eastern Team and Ono on 5th Western Team(because of this +/- rating)
Ono had around 100 more hits
Ono had a better shoot percantage
Ono had more SB
Ono had 4 Fights and Jakobsen 0
Ono had more Powerplay Points

Ono's 4 less points is easily outweighed by the fact he outhit you by 93 hits and had more shot blocks. Winning the goal scoring title means shit if the rest of your stats can't live up to someone else, especially if that someone else was nipping on your heels for that said title.

Gentlemen, as stated in the OP, please refrain from discussion in here. If you'd like, you may create a discussion thread in the SHL Discussion forum, but here all we need is a name for a vote.

An old man's dream ended. A young man's vision of the future opened wide. Young men have visions, old men have dreams. But the place for old men to dream is beside the fire.
