Aidan Richan Trophy Nominees
#1

<div align="center">[Image: zachparise1.jpg]

Every season the Aidan Richan Trophy is given out to the player deemed by the Awards Committee to have had the most improvement from the previous season. Originally, the award was created for “comeback player,” which became quickly too difficult to define. Kari Barkov won the award for switching positions, others were nominated for the award for simply existing.

In previous years, the common criticism of this award has come from the idea that it should award expected results – nominating third year players for continuing to develop. This season, however, sees the youngest of the nominees come from the S16 draft. These players have been nominated for the Most Improved Player of S23, the Aidan Richan Trophy.

(S16) Jarkko Kallestrom Chiefs || We start with the youngest of the nominees. Kallestrom played for the Toronto North Stars to begin S22, and through 35 games for them had a measly 16 points. Since then, he has exploded onto the scene for the Minnesota Chiefs, who acquired him from the Nugent-Hall led rival. In S22, he finished with 18 points in 17 games for the Chiefs and 34 points in 52 games for his total season. The season prior, for Toronto, was very similar with the same 12 goals and 33 points instead. In S23, he was back at the top again. He finished the season with 51 points in 52 games. His 18 goals topped his S22 performance by six, and he had a jump of 17 points.

(S8) Yousuf Scherbluk Blizzard || In S21, Yousuf was teammates with Kallestrom. On a line together, he finished with an identical 33 points and a lowly 13 goals. In S22, Yousuf made the move to the Edmonton Blizzard after some controversy surrounding a wide array of mistakes all around. He finished that season, however, with very little fanfare. Once again he had just 13 goals and only improved to 34 points, making him nearly identical to Kallestrom once more. It appeared at the time to be that Yousuf was simply going to be consistently above average in this way. Then S23 happened. Yousuf broke out once again, with a 19 goals and 53 point season. He registered a six goal improvement to go along with a massive 19 point improvement.

(S14) Emils Vilmenietis Blizzard || Having been with the Blizzard for the majority of his career, Vilmenietis has consistently been an above average player in terms of checking and scoring. He may not be pretty, but he’s effective. In S21, he had a 17-goal, 34-point season which placed him as third on the team. In S22, he took a step back with a 14-goal, 30-point season. In his career, this was his average range of hitting the low-30s in points. Then S23, he finally hit his mark alongside Yousuf. He scored a career high 19 goals, including his first career hat-trick, and managed 49 points for a massive five goal and 19 point improvement.

Tune in on Saturday evening to make your predictions and see which of these stars won the Aidan Richan Trophy!

This is an experimental thing with the Awards Committee. Like the NHL does, we will reveal the nominees for awards leading up to the show. At the show you can make your predictions having already known the nominees. This season I've attempted to make it that 3 awards will be revealed per day for today, tomorrow and Saturday leading into the ceremony on Saturday. Each day will have one of the major trophies revealed (McBride, Stevens, Mexico) along with an executive award (GM, Coach, Littleton) and a player award (Richan, Dar, Jesster).

In the future, we could alter this to one per day, but that could lead to slower days on other awards. As always, constructive criticism on this is very much welcome and appreciated.

As always, please feel free to discuss the nominations and please come out for the ceremony on Saturday![/b]

An old man's dream ended. A young man's vision of the future opened wide. Young men have visions, old men have dreams. But the place for old men to dream is beside the fire.
