I'll be the first one to say that the majority of it is pure luck. The rest is the lines we have. We've had a very similar team for the past 4 seasons, and have had fairly similar lines.
The lines have worked in the regular season, as well as in playoffs. We've stuck with them and they've got us pretty far.

This hits the nail.

What I have noticed is more often than not these super loaded teams, Texas pre-trade and Minnesota have loads of actives, whose stats change all throughout the season. The chemistry of each line is affected by those numbers via the algorithm the sim runs on and could have an entirely different result update to update.

For teams like Hamilton where some high end players have finished builds (Simons, Clitsome, Colt) and others (Black, Moreau, Pellegrino) are in the process of , those numbers don't change for Simons, Clitsome and Colt, and if a producing line is found, it's left alone. If there are inactives on that line, the lines focus and style will not change until you change something about it.

Example -

Simons
99 SK -> 95 SC -> 80 PA -> 80 ST

Colt
99 ST -> 95 SK -> 89 PA -> 76 SC

When these two are on the ice, the pecking order is pretty obvious. Colt muscles his way to the puck, skates it up and passes it, Simons is a much better skater and goal scorer so he carries and shoots it. Chances are Colt won't unless necessary and Simons won't go after the puck with Colt on the ice.

If that got changed though updates or regression to this:

Simons
88 SK -> 87 SC -> 70 PA -> 81 ST

Colt
90 ST -> 92 SK -> 85 PA -> 70 SC

It's a bit harder to determine and we likely wouldn't work well together, as Colt would be a better skater with worse shooting but far better passing, would he skate the puck and risk missing or pass to a slower skater in hopes he can shoot straighter, So you play with the lines looking for chemistry and you find it

...then your team gets updated again, throwing it all out of whack. That's why teams that are less active than others have historically done better than super active ones in the playoffs

So basically build a team to be mediocre and that leads to wins... because we all know that the Winnipeg Jets will beat the All Star team.

Think about it this way man.

What NHL team are you aware of that has Patrik Kane and Jonathon Toews on every single line? As for your comment, I would legit bet money on the Jets winning a best of seven for the same reason I'd bet on the rookies beating the senddowns again.

No, basically build a team of guys with finished builds. That is what Mac is saying.

Index updated through Game 4 of the Challenge Cup Finals.

With two more points, Rider Clitsome would set a new record for points in a postseason since S15. Benjamin Wong currently holds the record with 28 points in S17. Ironically, Clitsome could set the record via scoring on Benjamin's son (same user) Hunter.

Blink wow. That's really special and humbling to think about all the great playoff battles I've witnessed. Wong was a legitimate legend. Hopefully the points come....but the Cup is more important.

Took a couple days off, it was nice. Going to probably take a couple more off, but who knows really. In the meantime, updated this index. Links will be updated soon as well.

Have a good off-season everyone. It's time for my annual nap, see you next season.
