TASK ONE: (worth 3 TPE)

Written: Pick any goal scored in the S29 playoffs so far and write the play by play for it. (150 words)

Code:
With less than a minute left, and Ross in the box for tripping, the Scarecrows are on the power play with the game tied. Charlyb'y wins the faceoff in the Whalers zone, and he passes it off to Landry, on the half wall, who passes it down to Erichsen, sitting on the goal line. He pauses, waits for Diablo to get into position and sneaks it through a defender's legs to where Diablo is waiting, and Diablo shoots, but Biznette blocks! The puck skitters free to Matteo, who wastes no time in shooting, but it misses the net, and bounces to where Landry is waiting on the doorstep, and he tucks it home behind Link! Scarecrows win! Scarecrows win! The St Louis Scarecrows have just won the Four Star Cup, with less then thirty seconds on the clock!

TASK TWO: (worth 3 TPE)

Written: Choose a standout player in the regular season, and write 200 words on how they’ve measured up so far in the playoffs. Must include at least three stats.

Code:
The Scarecrows best player in the regular season was unquestionably rookie Frans Erichsen, who flew up the leaderboard to take the SMHJL by storm, leading all players in points and finishing right at the top of the leaderboard, outdoing last season’s best rookie, Kelowna’s Mikael Talo, who finished sixth. Erichsen finished the season with 55 points, six points above second place, Kelowna’s Captain, Mikko Linna. He also finished the season with only 12 PIMs and a shooting percentage of just over 15%, for 29 goals on 183 shots.

For the playoffs, Erichsen finished second in the league, behind teammate Sebastian Strange and tied with Linna (who played less games). He registered eighteen points in nineteen games, only 2 PIMs, and his shooting percentage dropped a little to 13.3%. His eight goals led the team, and, just like in the regular season, Erichsen has proved he can be a leader on this team, especially on the ice, and is projected to be a high first round pick, potentially top three. If he can recreate this season and this post season’s success, then he’s poised to be a star in this league for the foreseeable future.

TASK THREE: (worth 3 TPE)

Written: Choose what you think is a pivotal moment in any of the series’ so far, and flip it on it’s head. What happens if one team loses a game seven instead of wins? What happens if one goal isn’t scored, or is? How does the playoffs change, and how does the series change? (200 words.)

Code:
The Game 7 loss to Vancouver was the definition of a heartbreaker for the Kelowna Knights. They had three separate chances to close the series out, with games 5, 6 and 7, and they lost all of them by a wide margin. Laukkanen, the Knights’ regular season MVP, lost his composure and the series fell apart, ultimately sending the Whalers to the Four Star Cup Finals.

The Knights went down early in game 5, down 5-2 going into the third. In the third period, Mikko Linna completed his hat trick, but the team was ultimately unable to force OT, losing 5-4. This is the game where everything went wrong for the Knights. Laukkanen was pulled after allowing four goals on seventeen shots, and he was never quite the same after that game, getting pulled in both games 6 and 7, and his stats, top of the league in the regular season, dropped to 5th in the league for the playoffs.

If the Knights force OT in that game, they have a chance to take the series 4-1, and go on to face an admittedly stacked St Louis team. With Laukkanen struggling, and the Knights facing some of the best scorers in the league, the Knights would have to do something really special to beat the Scarecrows, who went on to take the Four Star Cup in 6 games. If the Knights went on to play the Scarecrows, I predict they would take it to a game seven, but ultimately lose to a St Louis team that just overpowers them.

TASK FOUR: (worth 3 TPE)

Written: Your player has won the Challenge Cup! Write 200 words about what he or she does on his or her Cup day. (This applies even to players whose teams didn’t make the playoffs)

Code:
After winning the Four Star Cup, Mikke Laukkanen decides to spend his cup day in Finland, where he grew up.

He shares his cup day with teammate and life-long best friend Mikael Talo, who grew up three blocks away from Laukkanen’s childhood home. Both families worked together for the party, which took place in Laukkanen’s backyard. Fellow Finns Ilmari Maatta, Bennett Jones and Mikko Linna made it out for the day, along with teammates Dominique and Landvik, and Laukkanen’s teammate from juniors, Montreal’s Jason Forbrook.

There was a barbeque, and Laukkanen’s mother, a baker, provided homemade bread, cakes and pastries, so by the time the sun started to set, everyone was full of food and content.

The party starts to die down at night, but a lot of people stick around, as Laukkanen’s yard has a firepit, and a small crowd of players start to gather around the fire. Jones and his significant other share a seat, and Laukkanen sits with best friend Talo and his childhood dog, Aatu.

Laukkanen ended the day by sitting down with a local sports magazine for a short interview.

‘Today has been incredible,’ he says, sitting away from the guests. ‘All I wanted with my Cup Day was to spend it with the people I love, and that’s exactly what it’s been. Winning was amazing, but this is what’s important to me. If I could do this every day, I would. I’m looking forward to doing it again next year.'

Written: Pick any goal scored in the S29 playoffs so far and write the play by play for it. (150 words)

It was game five between the Edmonton Blizzard and the upstart Texas Renegades. Texas had started the scoring early going up 2-0 but Edmonton forced OT with two third period goals. It was six minutes into overtime when Evgeni Karpotsov wins a faceoff against Liam Kinsler in the Renegades zone, Windsor picks up the puck and throws it over to Koroview but it is intercepted by Ignant Ogorodnikov! He throws it ahead to the dangerous Yuri Boyka but the pass is off and goes behind Boyka. Windsor manages to cover up his mistake but is rushed by Knight. Winsor rushes a pass but Kinsler is there! Knight bounces off the check and joins the rush… Kinsler sends the puck across the blue line to Knight. Knight cuts behind Velevra on net… he goes glove side… AND SCORES! Two horrible turnovers from Windsor and the Texas Renegades win Game Five thanks to a Sterling Knight goal, assisted by Captain Liam Kinsler.

TASK TWO: (worth 3 TPE)

Written: Choose a standout player in the regular season, and write 200 words on how they’ve measured up so far in the playoffs. Must include at least three stats.

Geoffrey Allen had a solid regular season for the Texas Renegades. He played on Texas’s top line with Yuri Boyka and Jack Durden, a line which had the best plus minus on the team. Individually Allen was the third piece of the line finishing, acting as a backup scorer in case Durden could not find Boyka. Overall he finished fourth in team goals, importantly scoring 12/14 goals 5 no 5. This level of play did not translate to the playoffs at all. Allen completely vanished, only recording a single assist over six games. This would have been okay since both Boyka and Durden were producing above point per game rates but over half their points came on the power play. Five on Five Allen and co were a major liability. Allen was visibly frustrated on the ice; this can be seen by his twelve hits which was most amongst Renegades forwards. For context that is a third of his total hits during the regular season in only six games. Some people may commend Allen for committing to the physical game when his scoring touch disappears but this honestly only highlights the extent Allen’s line struggled with possession during the Edmonton series.

In the Edmonton Blizzard Texas Renegades series it was game four which set the result of the series in stone. So far in the series Texas had split the first two games 1-1, the loss coming in OT. Then when the series went to Texas the Renegades dropped a close game one 4-3. Now in game four the Renegades found themselves up 2-1 heading into the third period. Unfortunately for the Renegade faithful they would concede two goals in the third losing game four. This game really exemplifies the entire series. In game one the Renegades failed to close out on an early lead meanwhile in games three and four Texas was unable to take control of the series when they had taken home ice advantage away from Edmonton. In terms of the playoff picture Edmonton went seven games before losing to Calgary Dragons. After the Renegades retooled their roster and went on their 9-3 run to make the playoffs they actually beat the Calgary Dragons, compared to the Blizzard who lost their last regular season game against Calgary. Texas may have had a better matchup against Calgary and could currently be representing the west in the Challenge Cup Finals against a Hamilton Steelhawks team who the Renegades are 2-0 against in finals.

If Alexander Charlyb’y won the Challenge Cup this season he would have been one if not the first player to win both the Challenge Cup and the Four Star Cup in the same season. Charlyb’y would take that cup back to Newfoundland immediately. The morning would be the whole fan meets thing and driving around to take pictures with the cup, a picture with the Town of Dildo sign is a must. After that we would travel to St John’s and take a lovely photo out in the harbour on a boat, maybe try to go out into the ocean to take a picture with a puffin. Then it would be time for the real fun. Charlyb’y would screech his wife in and make her take the shot from the cup after kissing the cod which would have also been chilling in the cup. The cup would then do a full tour of George Street and many good folks could drink out of the holy mug. Hopefully no one gets sick! Sadly the day would have to come to an end and Charlyb’y would go home and have some good night oats out of the bowl before going to bed and letting the cup go on its merry way.

Task Two

Task Three

The most important series this playoffs was the one between the Toronto North Stars and the Hamilton Steelhawks. Toronto coming off 3 straight losses to Hamilton in the playoffs, faced a 0-3 hole already after sweeping the President trophy winning Chiefs. But Toronto came back and forced a game 7 back in Hamilton.

It's hard to say what would happen if Simons doesn't score the overtime winner, because of the way Toronto is cursed Clitsome or even Tanner would find a way to score instead. But in that one in a million chance that Stinson or LaFlamme somehow scored, it would be the most incredible story in the past 10 seasons. Toronto, destined for failure, would finally return to the Finals for another chance at the cup.

Toronto would not win the finals if they made it, however. The curse is too strong. They'd just find a more disappointing way to lose. Perhaps another game seven comeback only to have Count Chocula suspended for tampering, making Stinson go crazy and retire over and over halving his TPE. Maybe it would just be a clean sweep of Toronto, where people in Toronto just drown themselves in massive depression.

I'd still root for them though. Everybody loves an under under dog.

Task Four

Bojo Biscuit has finally won it all after two failed attempts in the finals. Fortunately JackGod and JayBae and their destructive powers had been vanquished by the time West Kendall returned to glory.

What better place to celebrate than the sexy land of Florida. They traveled to the small historic Pensacola area on the panhandle. Unfortunately the water is super toxic with bacteria, and Slappy might have to lose a leg.

They figured screw it, and go to Disneyworld in Orlando. It was great for a bit, but Szlerchek kept getting confused with Mickey Mouse, and threw a kid off of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

Well, with the Florida tour going south so far, and only two people recognizing who they really were, they figure it's best to chill in the nice beaches of Miami. Unfortunately a gang war had recently begin between east and west kendall, and Maximova and Wagner got shot because they kept missing every shot.

Pettyfer and Pejonis flew back from Latvia, where the Euro has increased in value by 1000%. They came back with gold chains, five ladies on each arm, and a shirt signed by Porzingus that says "Wow hockey cool is"

All in all, it was a super fun time. But we might need to make some trades because half the team is injured in some way. Oh well, YOLO I guess.

Here we are in the third period of game seven between the Dragons and Blizzard. The Dragons started strong and opened the game with a 2-0 lead after the first period. However, the Blizzard continue to be pesky, having already come back from a 3-1 series deficit, they have also tied this game after trailing 2-0 with Sarantez's goal earlier in the third period. The Blizzard dump the puck in and it's retrieved by Nuck, he'll skate it out of his zone and dump it into Edmonton's ice. There's a battle along the boards for the puck. Hill gets and feeds Mack in the slot. HE SHOOTS!!!... it goes wide. Hill fires one from the left boards...but it misses by a mile. Nuck races over and keeps it in the zone. He passes to Mack for a one timer!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE SCORES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT A TIP BY RANDLEMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND THE DRAGONS REGAIN THE LEAD WITH LESS THAN 10 MINUTES TO GO IN THE THIRD PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Blizzard crowd is silent.

Written: Choose a standout player in the regular season, and write 200 words on how they’ve measured up so far in the playoffs. Must include at least three stats.

Jackson Rogers-Tanaka had a terrific regular season scoring 10 goals and adding 36 assists for 46 total points. The playoffs are known to be a different type of beast though, and Tanaka struggled to find the net, only scoring one goal in 13 games. In addition to his one goal, Tanaka had 6 assists for 7 points, and although that gives him over 0.5 points per game, it isn't anywhere near his season production. This could be a big reason for Edmonton losing to their provincial counterparts in their seven game Western Conference Final. Tanaka's defense has been questioned all year, starting in the regular season. He posted a +4 rating in the regular season, which was low compared to his other teammates and d-men. This may be why it isn't surprising that he had a team-worst (tied with two others) -5 rating in the playoffs. There was one noticeable positive improvement made by Tanaka in the playoffs, and that was his physical play. I mentioned earlier that the playoffs are a different type of beast, and the increased physical play is the most noticeable. Tanaka is not known to be very physical, as he picked up just 29 hits in 50 games. However, in just 13 playoff games he racked up 21 hits. This shows that he was able to alter his playing style in a positive way for the playoffs, even if he struggled in other areas.

Written: Choose what you think is a pivotal moment in any of the series’ so far, and flip it on it’s head. What happens if one team loses a game seven instead of wins? What happens if one goal isn’t scored, or is? How does the playoffs change, and how does the series change? (200 words.)

I'm going back to game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals between Hamilton and Toronto. Toronto was down by two goals before scoring three straight to take a 3rd period lead. Hamilton would tie the game and then win the series in overtime...but what if it never made it to overtime and Toronto had won that game...What if Harter didn't go for the pokecheck on Clitsome and stayed up to make an easier save on Simons (or Clitsome if he would have kept the puck)? Would Toronto have gone the other way and scored? Would Hamilton have scored later on anyway, nullifying the would be save anyway? All I know is, if Toronto won game 7 on the road, they would have had the opportunity to play against the Calgary Dragons in the Championship series, and potentially win their first ever Cup. Let's go another step back and ask, what would happen if Calgary didn't beat Edmonton in game 7. Did Calgary winning their series influence the result of the ECF? If Hamilton's quest for vengeance (after blowing a 3-0 series lead and losing the Cup to Calgary) against the Dragons helped fuel them against Toronto, perhaps that slightly extra bit of motivation put them over the top against Toronto. So if Edmonton had won, Hamilton wouldn't have had the extra fire that propelled them over Toronto, and we would have an entirely different series. Then again, maybe the two series were not at all linked, and nothing would have changed.

During Schnitinfritz Jagr's first Cup win, he mainly just partied with it and didn't do anything extraordinary, however, he has bigger plans for it if he and the Dragons can recapture the title. Jagr plans on going back to the Czech Republic to show his family and friends how special the Cup is, something he was unable to do his first go-around. There is also a local fair present during his day, so he would bring the Cup with him to enjoy all the festivities there. Some of these would include riding with the Cup on the famous roller coaster called Czech It Out...of course the Cup would also abide by the safety regulations, just like the other passengers. There is also a well known kabob eating contest that Jagr has won twice, although last year he got carried away and accidentally swallowed the metal stick it came on...who knew that he was also a mini-sword swallower. Like any proper gentleman, Jagr would try to win a prize for his date (the Cup) in one of the many, sometimes rigged, carnival games. His prize of choice is the typical bright pink teddy bear. The fair closes for the night with musical guests singing the fun to a closure. Back at his house Jagr would drink Jagermeister with the Cup. The Cup makes a move on Jagr, but he doesn't want to go all the way with the slut, knowing it'll be in another man's hands the next day, and possibly another team's next year...also it is metal and it would not feel nice.

About 5 minutes left to go in double overtime as the Hamilton Steelhawks and Toronto North Stars are tied at 4 to 4. Rider wins faceoff in his own zone and passes to Colt in neutral zone who passes back to Rider and he carries it into the North Star’s zone. He is hit and loses the puck but gains it right back and takes a shot on goal but it misses wide. Grundmanis retrieves it along the wall for Hamilton and finds Simons at the point who plays catch with the puck between him, Colt and Rider. Rider eventually takes a shot from the left point, but Wartooth blocks it and it goes into the slot where Moreau winds up for a big one time slapper and beats the goalie sliding across the crease high to the glove side as Hamilton wins 5 to 4 in double overtime!

TASK TWO: (worth 3 TPE)

Written: Choose a standout player in the regular season, and write 200 words on how they’ve measured up so far in the playoffs. Must include at least three stats.

Griffin Simons was the leading scorer for Hamilton during the regular season with 58 points -- 25 goals (which was second on the team), 33 assists which was also second on the team, a +13 and only took seven minutes in penalties. He was also first on the team in shots with 261. He averaged 27 minutes per game and had 11 power play points.

He has continued his success in the playoffs as he is second on the team in scoring with 26 points, tied for first on the team with 12 goals and is third on the team in assists with 14. He is a huge +16 so far in 17 games which basically means is a +1 on average for every game that he plays. His shooting percentage has gone up since the regular season from just under ten percent to over thirteen percent. He only has two points on the power play with both of these points being goals.

This is the type of play you need from one of your veteran leaders not only in the regular season to get your team into the best spot possible, but also in the playoffs as it is a day in and day out grind. He has two game winning and two game tying goals to his name in 17 playoff games compared to five game winners in 50 games during the regular season.

Edmonton’s quest for back to back championship ended in game 7 of the western conference finals to the Calgary dragons. What if Edmonton didn’t lose that game? I think they go on and win it all to claim their second straight league championship.

They are led by all world goalie, Jakub aittokallio, who matches up very well against the Steelhawks goalie Tanner. Their defense is led by Rogers-Tanaka, Muller, Windsor and Velevra and along with Goode and Weber, provide the blizzard with a little bit better defense than the Steelhawks have.
Edmonton can also roll out three solid lines of offense led by Kane who dominated the league this season and players like Salmon, Koroviev and Sarantez create a nightmare matchup for any team that they play against. Hamilton has some quality players on their offense as well in Colt and Simons, but have a hard time matching the depth up front that the Blizzard have.

As we see with the current series between Calgary and Hamilton, anything can happen with the games are played on the ice, but if Edmonton had won game 7 of the western conference finals and played the Steelhawks for the Cup, the Blizzard would have had a great chance to come away with their second straight championship.

TASK FOUR: (worth 3 TPE)

Written: Your player has won the Challenge Cup! Write 200 words about what he or she does on his or her Cup day. (This applies even to players whose teams didn’t make the playoffs)

My day with the cup would be pretty simple and involve showing the Cup off to as many kids as possible so they can have something to dream for. I would visit as many schools as I could in my area and go around to as many classrooms as possible to let the kids see and touch the Cup. I would even play a little knee hockey tournament with some of the kids and let them win so they can enjoy the same feeling of winning the Cup like I did and help them carry it around their classroom.

Then I would hit up my favorite local eating place in the middle of the day where I like to grab a cheeseburger and sit down and let some of the locals look, touch and take pictures with the Cup as well. In the evening, I would get some of my friends together and we would play some hockey on the xbox double elimination tournament style and let the winner of the tournament, which would be me anyway, lift the Cup over their head and parade around the house as the champion.

Then, once the tournament is over, we would order up some pizza and soda for dinner and then fill up the top of the Cup with our favorite ice creams and toppings and eat one good sundae out if it
