Today we will be comparing the likes of rookie Derrick Glover, and send-down Ronnie Westbrook. Both players are two-way forwards who play center for the St. Louis Scarecrows of the SMJHL. To evaluate Glover’s performance in his rookie season, we will compare 3 statistics of his to Westbrook, that should define him as a player.

First up, is points. Every forward need to produce offensively, that’s a given. Westbrook has gathered 13 points in 27 games, including 7 goals, which is good for 3rd best on the team, while Glover has picked up 5. Clearly we can see that Glover is struggling to get anything going offensively. Considering Westbrook is a two-way forward, his point-every-other-game pace is good.

Second is the two’s +/- rating. A telling stat for these 2, which should be looking better than most forwards because of how defensive minded they are. Yet, Westbrook comes in at a -5, and Glover a -8. Glover’s +/- is second worst on the team. Based off +/-, it’s clear that neither have lived up to their expectations defensively.

Finally, we have face-off percentage. This is probably the biggest difference of all, with Westbrook’s dominance on display at 56% (best on the team), and Glover just 31%, the worst among all centers on the team. This is probably due to experience, and time in practice working on winning face-offs, both of which Glover lacks in.

Overall, Westbrook has shown that he is the better player this season, and the difference in experience is a big factor.

The Halifax Raiders are currently leading the SMJHL in both wins and points as the team looks to repeat last year's Four Star Cup win. This past draft the Raiders only had one pick and used that selection to draft Austrian rookie Sepp Reiter in the hopes that he'd find chemistry with veteran scorer Reed Laing.

So far this season Sepp Reiter has been stapled to the first line playing alongside SMJHL superstar Reed Laing. Reed Laing is currently 5th in SMJHL scoring with 13 goals, 13 assists for 26 points along with being 2nd in the SMJHL in hits with 78 while Reiter only has 4 goals and 4 assists for 8 points along with 1 hit.

You'd think with Reiter playing with an SMJHL superstar he'd have a few more points than he has but there's been speculation that Laing is unhappy with being forced to carry a rookie on his line and has been ignoring Reiter on the ice while Reiter was in prime scoring positions. Some have said Reiter should be producing more like Detroit Falcons weab Kyle Kylrad but at the same time he hasn't been getting the power play gravy minutes like Kylrad.

Whether or not Laing has been ignoring Reiter on the ice isn't a problem as long as the Raiders continue to dominate the SMJHL.
