PT #7 - Self Evaluation
#16

Brandon Gauthier had a disappointing first season in the SMJHL. Is that a surprise when he was used solely as a fourth line center on one of the best teams in the league? No, it was to be expected. But it is still easy for a young player to lose heart in this kind of situation, especially as he sees fellow rookies fly ahead and leave him in the dirt. Gauthier scored 3 goals and 5 assists for 8 points this season, less than the other Raiders rookie Sepp Reiter who was able to double Brandon's numbers by scoring 6 goals and making 10 assists. It wasn't all doom and gloom for Brandon however. He was able to keep a positive +3 rating on the ice, which suggests he has some ability to help his team out when he is on the ice even if he is not directly involved in their scoring. Brandon didn't make perhaps the most out of all of his opportunities but considering the circumstances he may have done a lot worse so should not be ashamed. His 11.11 minutes per game played on average was a low number, but with many Halifax players nearing the end of their junior careers it's a number that should be set to grow as soon as next year, and Brandon may be able to take on a position in the team's top six forwards. Next season his main goal will be to be one of the team's top contributors in scoring and to play a strong team game, and he hopes to have the numbers to prove it. In conclusion, it hasn't been a good first season for Brandon but there is definitely hope in the future that he will be able to steer the ship back on course.
