Tonight’s highlight of the game is the overtime goal scored by Centerman Teddy Kesler 20 seconds into the overtime period. He received a wicked pass from Titova and netted his 8th goal of the season. It was a battle of the goalies tonight; however Landon Boeing came out on top and won his team the game.

Goaltender Landon Boeing has been THE gamechanger for the Colorado Mammoth this season. His first season in the league was one of ups and downs punctuated with long periods sitting on the bench. S34 has been a completely different story for the young goaltender from Maine. His play in net has been one of the biggest reasons why the Colorado Mammoths are currently sitting near the top of the standings and regularly beating other teams. Boeing has brought a solid wall to the net for the Mammoths. This game was filled with highlight saves and a complete display of technique from Boeing.

Goon of the Game

Elias Lindstrom
2PIM / Roughing

While no player stood out definitively as the Goon of the Game for game 78, Elias Lindstrom made it a point to rough up one of the Colorado Mammoths stars and earn himself a 2 minute trip to the penalty box. Lindstrom needs to learn to keep a cool head in close games or he could have seen the lead be much larger for Colorado in an pivotal period.

Three Stars of the Game

1 - Landon Boeing (COL)

The aforementioned Goalie of the Game. Boeing brought his A+ game against one of the other best teams in the SMJHL. Montreal is a tough opponent to play against and Boeing showed he was a step ahead of the rest of the players on the ice.

2 - Ted McDonald (MTL)

The only Montreal player to bury a goal. McDonald was all over the ice. The one Montreal player that played like they wanted to win. McDonald is one of the superstar youngsters for the Montreal Militia and truly showed his grit and competitive nature in this game.

3 - Teddy Kesler (COL)

Kesler put away the game winner. The superstar center for the Colorado Mammoth took it upon himself to give Colorado the win and reward Boeing for a spectacular outing. Kesler is a big part of what makes the Mammoth go and he showed it tonight.

Team Statistical Breakdown
The Colorado Mammoths took the decision in a tight, 2-1 overtime win over the Montreal Militia so let's have a look at the team stats and find out where Colorado was able to take advantage in this one. Montreal was the more physical of the two teams, delivering 19 body checks, while Colorado only unloaded 9 of their own and surprisingly enough, the Mammoths spent more time in the sin bin. The Militia had four powerplays to Colorado only having the luxury of one of their own, although neither team cashed in with the extra man. Montreal was the better of the two clubs in the face-off dot, taking 54% of the draws, while the Mammoths were able to win 46% but Colorado were monsters in not allowing shots on their goaltending, laying out to block 13 shot attempts while Montreal was able to block 8 shots attempts at their own goaltender. The Mammoths' willingness to sacrifice their bodies was the difference in this closely contested game.

Unsung Hero
[Image: uRImgFp.jpg?1]

My Unsung hero of the game is Vesa Perhonen of the Montreal Militia. He played over 18 minutes and registered 3 shots and 2 hits. He was imposing in the faceoff circle wining 11 out of 17 for an impressive 65%. He was a complete center out there and made sure his team started with puck possession most of the time. For his strong play, he gets the unsung hero of the night.

TSN turning point
[Image: uCwqxUR.png?1]

The turning point of this game is the faceoff won by Colorado Mammoths’ Krike Dingo in the Montreal zone which lead to Maxwell Andrews goal tying the game. Krike only won two faceoffs the whole game and this was the most important one. It allowed Mammoths’ fourth to forecheck and put pressure on Militia’s third line which bore fruit by tying the game which went to overtime, Mammoths winning the game eventually.

1 - Landon Boeing (COL)
The busiest of the netminder making 27 for his 11th win of the season. Calm and composed performance for the sophomore tonight. Kept his team in the game forcing overtime. He bested the veteran Thaddeus Prince and deserved the first star.
2 - Ted McDonald (MTL)
The veteran defender scored the first goal of the game in the first period. He hustled to get the free puck in the offensive zone and fired a canon from the point for his first of the season. Played a solid 19 minutes registering 1 shot blocks and two hits got him the 2nd star of the game.

3 - Teddy Kesler (COL)
Kesler gets the 3rd star of the game for scoring the game winning 20 seconds into overtime and for an inspiring all round performance. The center played both in the powerplay and penalty kill unit for a total of 20 minutes in ice-time and won 19 faceoffs out of 31, an impressive 61% efficiency.

Conklin Owen's Unsung Hero

Any time you've got a game that comes down to a 1-1 stalemate through regulation, you're likely going to have one (or both) goal tenders getting some of the limelight. In this contest, that was the case, with Colorado goal tender Lance Boeing putting up 27 saves on 28 shots (good for a .964 save %). The other two stars went to the 2 players who scored the single goals for their sides in regulation, Teddy Kesler and Ted McDonald. There's no doubt that those two had nice games, but I think there was a guy out there on the ice who didn't get the recognition he may have deserved for a gritty performance on a night when his team failed to come out on top.

Elias Lindstrom

Lindsrtrom is the 3rd member of the top line for the Milita, aside Michael Walker and Tim Elliot. The latter two players are the ones who bring the offensive prowess to the Milita attack, combining for 9 shots on goal between them. Elias is more or less on the line to provide the physical presence, protecting his line mates, chriping the opposition to get them off their game, and tasked with jarring the puck loose to generate more possession. He's a classic grit man, who brings a defensive aspect to the top line.

In tonight's performance Elias was impressive defensively- taking away 12 passes from Colorado through the course of the game. Unfortunately, his passing game could use some fine tuning, he gave away 10 passes of his own, but nonetheless, he came out positive. Elias doled out 4 hits, with all of them knocking the puck lose, and 3 of which ending up on Milita sticks- putting him at +5 in possession on the evening, which is a solid contribution. He took 1 shot on the night, seeing that his teammate was in position in front of the net for a deflection opportunity (even if it ultimately was blocked after the tip). To boot, he also won his only face off, not bad for a winger.

Elias did was he was supposed to tonight. He generated possession for his line, and put them in a position to out opportunity Colorado. He can't be held at fault when it was Walker and Elliot who failed to effectively use any of those 5 extra possessions he created for them. Had the rest of Montreal lived up to his example and level of play, they'd likely have come out on top, rather than going home with only 1 point.

Mile High Hit of the Game

Welcome back to the Mile High Hit of the Game. No surprise here as hit of the game goes to Rambo for his bone-crushing hit on Militia forward Tim Elliot. It occurred in the Militia zone. Rambo showed his hitting awareness skills to step up, take the risk, and land the huge hit on the turning Elliot. [Image: 8M5Dq6v.gif]
