It's always about you, though, don't back down now.

To answer to your fixation on hits, Bearss, unlike Kurczewski and Redding and 90% of the players in the league, actually shared a line with hitters. Just like you said +/- can be affected, so is hitting in Simon T. Joe and Ace were both winged by 40 checkers, while Bearss was 63 checking to Volkova's 70+ (it changed throughout the season).

Add in, again, 24 shot blocks, just to really drive that point home, on a team that didn't give up a ton of shots, and the 64 points (it is two-way forward, not strictly defensive forward which differentiates it from the Selke) and I don't think it's really as bad as you make it out to be

Points factor into the Dar Award too and if you want to use the excuse that he shares a line with hitters bumping his hits down than you should also mention he shares a line with some of the premier players in the league - which surely effects his offensive numbers.

No real horse in this fight. If anything conflicted because I played in Vancouver with Bearssy and love him but fuck Winnipeg.

its because this league is points based obsessed...

Player 1: 14G, 11A 25P
Player 2: 12G, 10A 23P, 61H

In the above scenerio... player 1 will be picked for what ever the award is 90% of the time.. and its rediculous.

But the problem is, we aren't comparing two players two points apart. The examples being mentioned are a good 15, 20 points apart and ignoring two of the three defensive stats Simon T gives to work with just to talk about hitting.

So just nobody on Winnipeg gets awards because they were too good? I mean, don't get me wrong, I'll post the damn screenshots to show I was voting against myself for every award I received a nomination for, but don't be dense.

Bearss' 66 hits and 36% faceoffs is great 2 way play lol

You’re always so fucken salty at the awards show, reflects poorly on Toronto. If you’re that passionate about it then join the committee where you can have a say. Stop bashing the nominees when they didn’t have a say in the matter

There will always be controversial choices no matter what award it is.

There will also always be some sort of bias when voting for certain award.

stop getting your panties in a bunch or you should just go away from your own life.

When they say let the guys who deserve it get recognition, then shit on people who think some one else desereved it as well.

People can speak up if they want. Especially when they have the stats to back it up.

I love when people just say things to try and sound snide

It's always about you, though, don't back down now.

I had small hopes for being nommed but really didn't believe I'd get it. There were lots of good options that were better than me. Bearss wasn't one of them.

Quote:To answer to your fixation on hits, Bearss, unlike Kurczewski and Redding and 90% of the players in the league, actually shared a line with hitters. Just like you said +/- can be affected, so is hitting in Simon T. Joe and Ace were both winged by 40 checkers, while Bearss was 63 checking to Volkova's 70+ (it changed throughout the season).

So Bearss let his linemates do the work while he coasted, is what you're saying? A 2 way player - or more accurately - a 200 foot player. That means going in on the forecheck (hitting), and coming back on the back check (hitting). Especially for a winger, he should be leading the forecheck, instead he just kind of hangs on the perimeter. In any given game there was about 1 thing Bearss would do defensively. He'd get 1 hit a game and about a 50% chance of getting a shot block, and lose a few faceoffs.

Quote:Add in, again, 24 shot blocks, just to really drive that point home, on a team that didn't give up a ton of shots, and the 64 points (it is two-way forward, not strictly defensive forward which differentiates it from the Selke) and I don't think it's really as bad as you make it out to be

Drive home the point that there were multiple other forwards with 20+ SB. Why weren't they nommed? Selke is also about 2 way forwards, it takes into account points - always does - but it also realizes that that's a lesser stat in this category. Lundberg only had 42 points. Points isn't the end all be all and just because someone had a lot shouldn't put them in consideration for this award alone. A lot of points is good but it's more important to also have good stats in the defensive categories.

For the record, some history on the Selke:
- Last time a winger won was 02/03 (Jere Lehtinen)
- Last time someone with more than 1 PPG won was 2008/09 (Pavel Datsyuk)
-Toews had exactly PPG in the lockout shortened season.
- Of the 39 times awarded, a winger has won 11 times (including the first 4)
- Kris Draper in 2003/04 was the last time a player won with less than 50 points (not counting the lockout shortened season)

They care about points, it's why 3rd and 4th line PK specialists don't win. But it's about playing both ends of the ice, and largely about taking possession from the other team. Faceoffs, takeaways, etc.

I get it, he's your teammate. But we have basically every other award for rewarding points. We have all star teams to award points. He got this nom on points, and playing for the "hot" team right now. It's why Volkova is a 1st team all star and Visser made the teams over Eriksson or Otto.

I agree with this. People should be able to discuss who is more deserving of what award in a civil manner.

There's too much salt in this thread. Including the post I'm quoting.

Let's just give Bennett Jones every award, and call it a night.
