It's quite well known how well the Kelowna Knights are playing this year in the SMJHL. With a star studded lineup from top to bottom it's hard to argue why the Knights are having such success. With guys like Mack, ODowd, Dekens, Savage, Maddox, the list goes on and on with the veteran presence on this team. Second and third year guys like Paq and McCarty show promise to get the Knights through their inevitable rebuild. It's a high flying franchise riding the back of back to back championships and making quite the bid the take the three-peat in S42. The Knights are currently 9-1-0 in their Last 10 Games putting them at an impressive 21-3-2 record, good for 44 points and a vice grip on first place. The gap between the Knights and the second place Vancouver Whalers is a whopping 6 points with Kelowna having a game in hand and a chance to extend their lead. The season is long and we are a ways from the end, the Knights have made themselves a case for the three-peat on the back of Mack with 29 points in 26 games (10-19-29), Peter Walker with 27 points in 26 (10-17-27), and James Dekens with 26 points in the same 26 (11-15-26). With all three lines rolling, the Knights have scored 101 goals in a mere 26 games, resulting in close to a 4 goals per game average (3.88). Also boasting the lowest goals allowed in the league at 63, the Knights are no slouches on defense. Can the Knights continue their tear through the gut of the league, or will they flame out through the wear and tear of a full, hard fought season in the SMJHL? Only time will tell, but their grip on this league is suffocating.
