Coming into Season 43, we here in Edmonton have built a rock solid team. Our expectations have been high for the last couple of years, but we still haven't been able to make it over the first round hump. We're hoping this season leads to a breakthrough.

The first strength that we boast this season is an improved top 9 forward group. With the acquisition of Geronimo Otto, he slides nicely into the first line with Bitties and Knouse. That enables us to move Redding to the third line with Scholz and Becker. The second line returns unchanged with Cukurs, Rockefeller, and Cuddles. The balance on each line is going to make it tough for any team to match up on the ice.

The next strength is the continued development of three key defensemen. We already have the established vet in Hale, but in Tanner, Tuck, and McIntyre, we have a growing crop of defensemen who are just entering their prime and getting better every day. Tanner especially is very close to breaking out and joining the group of top defensemen in the SHL. Those 4 match up to any top 4 D core in the league and will be a huge help to our goal tending and our forwards.

Our 3rd strength isn't something tangible that you can see on a stat sheet. It's our locker room chemistry. Our team is young, but we all started out together. We've been through every step of our careers together. We tasted defeat together and we've tasted our first successes together. We've become a family and we are the ones that brought the high expectations to the team. We know what's at stake and we're going to do this as one.

The S43 rendition of the Toronto North Stars will look to get into the playoffs for the first time since S37. This is a team that has been ridiculously close for WAY too long and needs to hurry up and make it already.

One big reason is the youth movement, we are a young team inching closer to our prime with a couple guys like Mikhail Lokitonov and Bob Bergen hitting 1000 tpe and Richard Physt and Ti-Guy Emond nearing 800 on their own.

Toronto didn't really nab any big, shiny, new Free Agents to boost the team, but what we did right is resign all the big, key pieces. Chris York, Zander Rhys, Tommy Tuck, and Kristian Eriksson all sticking around meaning this team has kind of made up for the loss of Bobby Watson from within.

One final thing is just the Locker room atmosphere, we brought in a lot of amazing young players who are ready to make a big splash for years to come and that can motivate things. We are an active group who pulls together and such a place to be can only bring about success.

The Seattle Riot are in the umpteenth season of a rebuild that will likely see them fall just short of the playoffs. It is not all gloom and doom for the Riot, they have managed to acquire some nice pieces over the past few seasons. The biggest strength of the Seattle Riot is their surprisingly deep offense. The team is a little thin down the middle with wingers transitioning to centre; Zajac, Sepponen, and Smyth are all converting to help the team. However, on the wings is where the Riot make hay. Garrett, Lombardi, Twain, Lindstrom and newly acquired Selich round a list of deadly scorers.

The Riot also boasts a young and developing defensive core lead by the rugged Clint Eastwood. O'Callaghan, Kalju, Bodnar, Elias, and McIlroy compile one of the best up and coming rearguards in the league. In a matter of seasons, the Riot will have a high powered defensive core full of smooth skating players capable of putting up huge numbers. The last piece of the playoff puzzle for the Riot is a goalie. The Riot has a strong goalie prospect pool which features Benjamin Bleu going head to head with Scotty Crawfling as they vie for the Riot's starting role. The future is bright in Seattle.

Three Strengths of the Vancouver Whalers

1. Dominant Veterans
Vancouver still has many veterans on the team, while one a few got called up to the majors. With Elite Veteran Defense men coming back like Tokek Takshak, Geoff Moore, and Buck Maverick, they will be helping the newer defenseman into their roles. Having a dominant 1st line and a semi good 2nd line will be crucial to Vancouver success this season. But also offensively, there are deep veteran wingers that can help to, like Herb Roberts, and David Kabstra getting themselves to a high level of playing for the SMJHL.

2. Elite Rookies: Last year rookies have gotten so much better, as all of their rookies drafted have been active and ready to play. Luke Thomason and Max Mauldin has shown elite levels of skill and playmaking abilities on the 3rd and 4th line pairings, as well as having Johannes Leitner becoming a brick wall in net. We can see Leitner becoming the starting goalie this season if he bumps out Sandos for the starting spot.

3. Great Coaching and GM staff. Not a ton of GM's can keep their teams playoff and final ready team for a long time, but Adamantium and Glyc did, Getting to the 2nd round 2 seasons ago, and getting to the final last season shows how great they are. This season they have better players and a better goalie, and I hope we get back to the finals and win it this season.

Seattle Riot is a team looking for a spot in the playoffs on S43. Three strengths that suggest it will happen:

1. Wicked GM Sam E
General manager who loves his eurotrance and happy hardcore is constantly looking for ways to improve the team, good example is the addition of Selich from Buffalo during the off-season, he will play his final year with the Riot and is going to improve our hopes of making the playoffs tremendously. Also the daily work that goes on with the coaching staff and with the players is going to be a difference maker on Seattle finally making the return to playoff action.

2. Key players staying
Players like Lombardi and Kennedy signing new deals is big news for Riot. Both players play on big roles and are star players not just in Seattle but also in SHL, so having them in the roster again when upcoming starts has the potential to kick start the playoff campaing with a bang. We all know that the losses in the beginning of the season will cost you at the end - gotta be ready right from the start.

3. Irish Samuel L. Jackson
Liam O'Callaghan, man from Ireland, Irish man. He is the link between the players and management. Liam and Sam E have daily meetings, if anyone in the team has something on their mind, they can for example just talk to Liam and he will then bring it up in the meetings with the GM, might not sound like a big thing, but has been a big reason on why the Riot ship is steadily moving towards the right direction.

ST. LOUIS REPORT : OVERACHIEVERS

As we start preparing for S43, the outlook for the Scarecrows is very positive, with 9 capped or soon to be capped players returning to a squad that will also new players in the draft - with 3 of the top 10 picks, the Crows can be adding some great prospects to an already strong squad.

The team reflects some very good drafting in S43 by the STL GM duo. For this PT, I will look at 3 players who really outperformed expectations in terms of growth and development - i.e. later picks that totally became steals! All of these players were drafted in the 6th round of S42 SMJHL entry draft.

1. Nicholas Williams - picked 41st OV - Williams is a 2-way forward with really good ratings in Scoring and Defense. He enters S43 as a capped junior, and will undoubtedly play a huge role in the top 6, looking to contribute offensively while also helping on PK duties.

2. Kiko Rytmeyr - drafted 45th OV, Kiko had an outstanding season and is bound to show even more as he will be the undisputed number 1 defenseman in STL. CApped out with great ratings in Skating, Scoring, and Defense, Kiko has shown to be proficient in all aspects of the game and should pile up a ton of points on the powerplay.

3. Adam Taylor - the 47th selection of last season's draft has exceeded all expectations to become a very valuable piece of this season's roster. He is a playmaker but he has a great shot and also responsible defensively, should contribute in all areas and help make STL top 6 a force to be reckoned with!

This list doesn't even include later round steals like Helmuts and Aleister, who are also going to be big pieces of the puzzle heading into this season, so the outlook for the Crows is that they should be able to compete with the top teams in the league and make their way back to the dance floor of the SMJHL playoffs!

Strengths
Edmonton's strength going into the season has to be our depth. It's honestly crazy how deep we are right now at the two most important positions in my opinion, center and defense. At center we have:
1 - Tigole Bitties (1661 TPE)
2 - Geronimo Otto (1424 TPE)
3 - Teodors Cukurs (1317 TPE)
4 - Nikolaus Scholz (1059 TPE)
5 - Brock Becker (663 TPE)

On defense we have:
1 - Isaac Cormier-Hale (1364 TPE)
2 - Tor Tuck (1330 TPE)
3 - Connor Tanner (1313 TPE)
4 - Brady McIntyre (1081 TPE)
5 - Chippy Chiclets (1052) TPE
6 - Jean-Luc Picard (379 TPE)

It seems like the 3rd pair is going to have a time out there on defense with the huge TPE dropoff, but the center depth will likely help pick up some of the slack on defense. On top of having a great 4 centermen and 4 defensemen, our goalie Michael McFadden still has over 1000 TPE at 1151 TPE. If you thought that was a lot of 1 TPE players, look at the wingers:

1 - Cory Knouse (1462 TPE)
2 - Teddy Cuddles (1321 TPE)
3 - Hercules Rockefeller (1183 TPE)
4 - Ace Redding (1077 TPE)

The team only has 4 wingers because Cukurs or Otto will likely be centering the 3rd line in between Scholz and Becker, meaning the 4th line will be made up of a few players from the top 3 lines allowing more top end players to get more ice time. So every player on the team except Becker and Picard are over 1k TPE. Now that is depth.

Weaknesses
The teams biggest weaknesses have to be lack of top end players and our bottom end players. Right now the only player above the 1500 TPE benchmark is Bitties. We may see that change soon, but Tuck, Tanner, McIntyre, and Bitties are the only players on the team that are on the rise and close to or above the 1500 TPE benchmark. With so many players on the downswing that used to be cornerstones of the squad, the team may be re-tooling very soon.

Additionally having Picard and Becker on the team makes them a liability whenever they are on the ice being at such low TPE levels compared to the rest of the team. They'll have to pump those numbers way up to get more than minimal ice time.

1. The Hamilton Steelhawks has arguably one of the best lockerrooms in the league. Players are excited to play in Hamilton and that excitement translates onto the ice. Team chemistry is essential to a successful team and Hamilton has it in spades.
2. Defense. The Hamilton Steelhawks defensemen read like an all-star team. Ben Dover, Ronnie Westbrook, Sami Owens, and Finn Kruger are all over 1300 TPE. Dwayne Wyder and Jakub Trocheck, while not being the stars of the caliber of the first four, are still two very solid defenders.
3. An exciting debut. Hamilton will be debuting their S41 first round pick goalie, Geezus Kryyst this season. While still young and green, Kryyst showed some flashes of brilliance in the SMJHL and if he continues to develop as he has, should develop into a solid goalie. He will have a lot of help in front of him in the way of defense, which should more than make up for his lack of experience.

The Dragons are coming off a Cup Championship in S42 and remain a very strong team headed into S43 with the eye on winning back to back cups. It's not going to be easy, it never is, but they have a great chance with key players returning, young player taking on bigger roles and a key addition to the line up in free agency.

1. Veteran presence and leadership. One of the things that keeps the Dragons on top is the veteran players we have on the team, their determination to be the best in the sim and their experience with winning. It all keeps us productive on the ice and positive in the room. We have a lot of great members who work tirelessly to win championships and support each other. We also have a pretty decent GM and Co-GM who are the most successful tandem in SHL history.

2. Defense. Our defensive unit is very strong, everyone boasts a 96+ D rating and 5 of our 6 D have 99 D rating, this is always key but they also have sensible smart builds to support their defense. We have a nice mix of scorers, passers and hitters this year in Kaiser, Shirobokov, Creller, Makismov, Driftwood and Goody Jr. I expect them to all mesh well and once again become one of the best units in the league. We made a big addition of Fedor Shirobokov in the off-season who will help us remain consistently one of the hardest teams to play against and our goalie Dick Chocolate isn't half bad either.

3. Offense. Our offense is strong with big studs like Joe Kurczewski and Mike Izzy along with Mikko Linna, but we have a new addition to the group with the movement of Roman Augustus to the wing this season. The former offensive defender fills a big void as the top high scoring winger the dragons were looking for in the off-season by making the position switch. We expect this to be a key move for us this year and for Roman to excel. We also will see the further develop of playoff stars Hunter Jones and Shooter McGavin and we still have veteran 5-time champions Esa, Randleman and Mack playing effective hockey for us.

The pro-team is looking very strong and we had a great draft with the additions of forwards Nicky Pedersen Jr, Crush Cile and defenseman Helmuts Akmelauks who join future goalie superstar Kate Vilde on the farm. The present is great and the future is bright in Calgary. It's a good time to be a Dragon.

1. Veterans

Looking at all the vets in Montreal we have a strong mix of em. Players like Hudec, Daniil, Valentine, Tutankhamun*. (* Call ups might apply). Heck even Schieck could be added to this list aswell, because he's also an old dude. Besides great vets there is also an amazing mix of younger players to help out aswell.

2. The power of poutine

This is a strength many people will overlook, but the montreal squad is fortune to live in poutine country. This superfood is full of a perfect balance of nutrients to keep the tippy topest of players in great shape and boost their play.

3. Norwegian power

Not to boast, but the Militia have a player among themselfs, which seperates himself from the every day player with a playing style that can only be described as borderline illegal. Rafe Ulrich, is the top power forward of the team and is known for knocking down fools every chance he gets leading the league in hits last season he will be looking to repeat this and make every player fear even touching the ice at the same time as Ulrich is.

Going into the S43 Season, the Steelhawks look to be deeper and stronger in most of the areas of play (excluding goaltending, please don't look too hard at that right now).

Our first and most important strength is the depth of forward skaters that the Steelhawks boast. Zanarkand Abes, Robert Phelps, Oliver Konig, Nour Harrak, Vijanupatan Singh, Lyndis Vakarian, Dick Skillstedt. It's hard not to look at names like that and think that the Hawks aren't going to be potting goals when it counts and controlling the puck on the ice.

Another strength is the shutdown defensive corps that boasts just as much offensive firepower as it does defensive ability. Ben Dover, Finn Kruger, Ronnie Westbrook, Sami Owens. A deadly Top 4 to be sure, and these four represent the second line of defense against the East, a conference with shooters abound. But it should come as no surprise that these four are able to handle the best of the best when it comes down to the wire.

And last, but most certainly not least, one of the most cliche statements I can make--the locker room is ready to win. Everyone's comfortable and excited to be back on the ice with each other this year and we're ready to get back out there and prove our mettle as one of the best teams not just in the East, but in the league.

The Calgary Dragons come into season 43 as the defending Challenge Cup Champions and while we may not be the most talented team in the league, our experience in winning big games has to be looked at as a great strength moving forward. That experience starts with having the 'icon' Esa Anrikkanen as head coach. Esa's philosophy, methadology and strategy work and you can be assured that coach will get the best out of each player both on and off the ice.

On the ice another strength is down the middle with our captain @JKortesi81 and the Augment Mike Izzy. together the 2 centers have the 3rd and 4th highest TPE totals in the league and should be considered the most dominant tandom currently in the SHL. We saw a glimpse of the problems that opposing teams dealt with in the playoffs were Kurczewski and Izzy racked up 49 points in just 32 games!

and what may be our teams biggest strength is the teams defense. The unit is losing a super star in Roman Augustus whos shifting to forward, but we were able to replace that posiiton with Feder Shibirokov, a steady 2 way defender who kills the peripherals....he will stand along side Adam Kaiser, Otsap Maximov, Casey Creller and big Otis B. Driftwood! a unit which carried the franchise for most of the season... and if you were able to get past those defenders.. you have 'hock' to deal with... an all world goalie with 2 challenge cup rings to his resume.

The Detroit Falcons are coming off a slightly better than expected season, and that has helped build a lot of confidence going into S43. We have a large core to the team coming out of the reddit draft and a lot of hard-working players who are looking to make a huge impact and win a championship. In particular, we have three big strengths that will help put us over the top:

Forward Depth:

We have a ton of good, young forwards, and a lot of different playstyles. We should have a lot of ways to play around with the lines and find some groupings that shred our opponents. We could have a lot of capped forwards if everybody stays on track, and that makes us dangerous.

Special Teams:

Part of that forward depth is that we have a lot of capable penalty killers that can help come up huge in big situations. As well, we have the dynamic duo of Tig Murphy and Wolfhard Richter on the back end who are two of the best powerplay quarterbacks in all of junior hockey.

Goaltending

Cedric Robinson is the best goalie in the SMJHL. He was as a rookie, he'll continue to be as a vet. Other teams may have solid goaltending, but...
