S43 PT #1 - New Season, New Reasons
#46

While it looks like the Manhattan Rage are destined for another brutal season this year, there are at least some positives to take away from their squad. Their number one strength is their youth. Due to the incredible drafting of their head GM JayWhy over the past few seasons, the Rage's lines have been filled with top tier talent, and the locker room is buzzing like it never has before. The second strength of this team is the General Managers. Both do so much for the squad, and are always putting in work so that the Rage have an advantage come game day. While the team isn't strong enough for this to result in more than stealing a few wins, down the line it will be the championship factor. The third strength of the team is their offense. Especially when considering all of those drafted in the S43 entry draft. While its not too high-powered yet, we can all see where its headed, and teams will one day fear the Manhattan offense.

We’ve got a ton of strengths on the Edmonton roster. Our top line boasts three players above 1500 TPE with Geronimo Otto, Cory Knouse and Tigole Bitties. The second line has three players above 1300 TPE – Hercules Rockefeller, Teddy Cuddles and Teodors Cukurs. Our third line has two guys above 1000 TPE. Nik Scholz, Ace Redding and our young gun Brock Becker. We’re incredibly deep up front, and it’s not much different in the back. We have Isaac Cormier-Hale and Connor Tanner, Tor Tuck and Brady McIntyre and finally Chippy Chiclets, all of which are above 1000 TPE. The 6th d-man, Jean-Luc Picard will see sheltered minutes, but is the obvious shortfall.
The strong roster is a significant plus, as well as the chemistry that our core has developed. We’re optimistic that these two things, as well as seeing that our time to contend is now, could be what brings us to the point where we can accomplish what we’ve set out to do this season – win the Challenge Cup.

The Montreal Militia head into this upcoming season with one of the highest average TPE totals among SMJHL teams. Sources from the team say that they expect to have a minimum of eleven capped players, with the possibility of even more players capping as they reach the later stages of the season.

One more strength that the team boasts is their goaltending. Petr Vrana is probably one of the most underrated goalies that came out of the S43 Draft Class, but the guy is just rock solid. Coming up clutch in the final stretch of last season, watch for him to play very strong throughout the entire season.

Another strength is the new management team. With the GM team of Keygan and ErM split up, things were looking slightly grim for Montreal. However, they brought in veteran SHLer belgarat to take over, and that gives the team a lot of experience going forward.

Coming off a championship season in S42, the Dragons, per usual, remain a strong team that is poised to make a run at back to back cups. However, the team will have some new faces this season with the retirements of Nicholas Pedersen & Michael "Big Game" Boychuk.

1. Leadership. Leadership is very important to the Dragons, either on the ice or off. Esa may be the face of this franchise, but this team, led by Joe K. & Mike Izzy, present such a calming force in the locker room, to go along with Esa's "Voice of Reason." Outside of Mike & Joe, the group boasts 4 SMJHL GM's, so each and every one of them know what it takes to be a leader, and to get things done. Winning is contagious, this franchise has won alot in the past, these players have won alot of games, and they strive to continue that winning mentality and culture.

2. New Face on the Back End, to go with the Dynamic Young Core. The Dragons defensive depth is up there with the best in the league, with Adam Kaiser, leading the way, to go with the young core of Creller, Makismov, Good Jr., and Otis B. Driftwood - To cope with Roman Augustus moving to wing this season, management went out and picked up Shirobokov out of Minnesota on the Free Agent Market. Shirobokov will slide nicely into the top pairing with Kaiser, to form one of the top duos in the league.

3. The Pipeline. With Hunter Jones & Shooter McGavin making the jump to SHL over the past couple of seasons, what the Dragons have left down on the farm is something that should keep Calgary's fans excited. Kata Vilde, now in Halifax, is coming off back to back SMJHL championships with Kelowna, and is without a doubt the Dragons goaltender of the future, with already over 650 TPE, poised to continue the great success he has found. Nicky Pedersen Jr. a Two Way Power Forward, whose father was part of the 5 cup run the Dragons have hoisted since S27, was selected with the 14th pick in the S43 SHL Draft, has recently capped out before his 2nd season in St. Louis, is poised to have a breakout season and on his way to following in his fathers footsteps with the Dragons. Crush Cile Two Way Right Winger out of Halifax, was added in the 3rd round of the historically deep draft, also pushing the Junior Cap before his 2nd season, Cile looks to build off his amazing 32 point first season in Juniors. When its all said and done, Cile could be the steal of the S43 Draft. All in all, the Dragons have a bright future to go along with their superstar group of veterans, and quickly improving young core of the team.

So the Buffalo Stampede are just a great fucking team, and we have an outstanding group of players, coaches and management that we are going to be tearing the league apart with. Anyway, here is why we are the real fucking deal

1) World class FUCKING GOALIE

Jordin FourFour JR. is basically the second coming of one of the greatest goalies in the SHL, Jordin FourFour. He is just a monster, standing a 6'10 and a beast in the net, he won a McBride, Honcho, Khan and got nominated for the Mexico last season, so what's to say he won't continue.

2) Strong Rookie Development.

Rookies have been bred through the organization, and through proper asset management, the rookies have been huge fucking beauties, and are finally starting to show their worth, Guys like McGregor, Karey, Koenig have been instrumental in the team success.

3) Great Management

WannaBeFinn knows how to run a team well, alongside the lines god in Tomen, the team is in great hands, and create a great team.

The Edmonton Blizzard have a lot going for them. Over the past several seasons they have slowly been building to a big season and it finally feels like this is the one.

First, the Edmonton Blizzard defense is arguably the best in the league. The top 4 are all over 1000 TPE and the guys behind them are not slouches either. Perhaps more impressive about the top 4 is that three of them are still on their way up and far from the point where they will regress. They should only get better from here.

Next, the Blizzard have a lot of talent that was homegrown in Edmonton. Now, not everyone on the roster was drafted by the Blizzard, but many of the key pieces to the team have been with them since they were young players and have continued to develop with the team. They are all homegrown Blizzards by my estimates.

Finally, the Edmonton Blizzard are a family team. Sure, many around the league of their issues with different people on the roster, but the team as a whole is tight-knit and loyal. People on the Blizzard want to be there and I do not see that changing anytime soon. They are committed to the team for the long haul do to the possibility of success but more importantly the great locker room dynamic.

The S43 Calgary Dragons are coming off a cup winning year to the surprise of quite a few who were thinking the Dragons didn't have the horses to get it done. Probably the main strength for Calgary is it's GM Steelhead77. Esa is the gold standard of GMs. It seems every year he gets the lines down just right to maximize the talent of the team. He puts in alot of work trying to figure out the best strategies and it's mainly for this reason the Dragons have become the SHL's New England patriots. The next strength of the team is it's still powerful veteran core led by Joe Kurczewski, Mike Izzy, Roman Augustus and Adam Kaiser, all players in the top 26 SHL TPE leaders. They still lead the way for the team both on offense and defense and are a solid core which allows Calgary to remain highly competitive. Lastly there is the youth infusion coming along. Players such as Otis B Driftwood, Alex Mack and Shooter Mcgavin are giving calgary a bridge to the future as they learn to compete at highers levels each passing season until they become the dynamic core for the Dragons in the seasons to come.

The Panther’s have an interesting season in the works, having just inched into the playoffs last season, without major improvements on an individual level we could be seeing a parallel to the prior season as our fabulous Panthers must seize the day and stride forward towards unforeseen league-wide domination. In order to fully understand what needs to happen for us to take home some Silverware. First of all we’re going to need a big season from the veteran forwards in our ranks as we must look towards Reflieux, Leetch to lead the team with help from Bennett. Other than that I have faith that the coaching staff will put together and find the best lines to put our best foot forward and to ensure the highest point total we can amass. Lastly but most importantly our biggest strength has to be in the passion and dedication the team shares, sacrificing nothing to end with our goals and dreams realized. If all cylinders are running at full tilt then I see nothing short of a hell of a season here in LA.
