GAME 59: MONTREAL MILITIA AT COLORADO RAPTORS

Welcome to the Post Game Show!

Tonight we start off by looking at the Montreal Militia visiting the Colorado Raptors. Both teams are very close in the standings and are fighting to make the playoffs in a tight SMJHL race. Let’s head to the first period!
Colorado comes out flying in the first period. They had 15 shots to Montreal’s 6 and really carried the pace of play the whole period. The Montreal Militia took three minor penalties in the first which really stopped them from getting any sort of momentum. At 9:36 in Viktor Valentine for Montreal takes a Cross-checking penalty which leads to a Power Play goal for Colorado. Philip Winter scored his 7th of the year on a nice pass from Alex Winters and a secondary assist by Maui at 10:42 in the first. Montreal couldn’t get anything going in the first, let’s head to the second.
In the second period Montreal regrouped and came out really strong. The referees made a point of calling everything so we had a total of 5 more penalties, 3 for Colorado this period which ended up biting them. Back to the action where Monteal rookie Willy Mack scores his 2nd goal of the season at 11:59 of the period assists by Daniel Daniil and Marco Raanteli.  With the game now tied at 1 Montreal kept pushing and on a late power play before the end of the period Pavel Pivonka, one of the top Militia players scores with just 33 seconds left in the period to put Montreal up 2-1 before the intermission. Assists went to Charlie Shieck and Mason Hudson.

Special teams played a big factor in the first two period and the trend continues in the third.  Montreal comes out strong when Maui of Colorado takes a penalty at 3:21 in. Daniel Daniil scores a beauty goal assists by Charlie Schieck and Rafe Ulrich. Now Montreal is up with a nice 3-1 lead and looking to hold on and win the game. But Colorado has other plans. Willie Fisterbottom takes a bad charging penalty and Andrew Martin of the Raptors makes him pay. He makes it 3-2 on the Power Play and Maui and Alex Winters factor in the play with assists. Montreal held on for most of the period and weathered the storm but unfortunately they just couldn’t finish it off as with just 27 seconds left in the game Philpp Winter scores his second goal of the game to tie it up!! It was actually an even strength goal this time and we are headed into overtime!!
In overtime it was all Colorado as they outshot Montreal 5-1 but unfortunately nothing happened and we are off to a shootout!
Philipp Winter scores again on Colorados first attempt and he shows off just how hot he is right now. Montreal ties it up though with a goal by Mason Hudson with a slick deke. Kevin Kazarian misses for Montreal and Gvidas Kazlauskas has a chance to win it for Colorado and he makes no mistake! Snipe’s it fivehole on Petr Vrana who did everything he could this game to win but unfortunately the Militia didn’t give him enough help. Vrana saved 38 of 41 shots compared to Colorado’s Scottey Crawfling who saved 22 of 25.

FINAL SCORE COLORADO WINS 4-3 IN A SHOOTOUT

Unsung Hero

For me, the unsung hero has to be Andrew Martin for the Colorado Raptors and I can't believe he wasn't the 2nd or 3rd star this game. Martin tallied 3 assists during the game and helped rallied the late comeback for the Raptors to win it all. He had the primary assist for the first goal and was a secondary helper on the 2nd and 3rd goals. Not to mention the fact that Martin had 4 shots during the game and 2 hits. Aside from that, he was in the shootout where he just barely rang the puck off the bar, he was doing just about everything right that game and the Raptors have to thank him for the W there.

Bruiser of the Game

Tonight's Bruiser of the Game is a first ever two-way tie, with one player on each team being issued the honor. For the Militia, Daniel Daniil earns his second Bruiser of the Game title with 5 hits; the left winger yet again demonstrated that he can interweave offense and physicality, registering a goal and an assist as well. For the Raptors, top line right winger Ignatius Blunt answered the challenge, tying Daniil's 5 hits, although he did not have the offensive stats to counter Daniil's. Both forwards registered just over 16 minutes of ice time and stayed off the refs' radar, avoiding taking any costly penalties.
