A mere 24 hours after announcing his intention to enter the Season 44 SMJHL Entry Draft, Gareth Rush has hired one of the most notorious player agents in the world.  Simon Proulx and his, “The Proulx Firm”, will represent the young, Irish star and in the process, enter the global professional ice hockey game.

“We’re obviously thrilled to bring Gareth into the Proulx Firm family and begin to expose him as the budding superstar he is,” Proulx told reporters via conference call on Monday morning.  

“Gareth is a special. He’s a special hockey player and a special personality. Professional ice hockey in North America isn’t going to know what hit them.”

The pairing of a young, up-and-coming ice hockey player from Ireland with arguably the most famous sports agent in North America seems odd, but Proulx says it’s a relationship he’s targeted for months.

“The plan for over a year now was to expand the firm onto a global platform....and do so with a bang. Our team look all over the Europe for an electrifying player and thankfully, we found him playing youth hockey in Dublin.”

When asked if he considered marketing his global brand around players from Russia or Asia, Proulx simply responded with: “Absolutely not”.

Simon Proulx began “The Proulx Firm” almost immediately after retiring as a professional ice hockey player himself at age 26. Citing concussion concerns, Proulx hung up the skates early, but has remained close to the ice since. Not long after completing a Master’s degree in Sports Management and Administration at NYU, Proulx began representing numerous NHL and SHL players.

And despite the wealth of talent that has filtered through his firm, Proulx believes Gareth Rush may emerge as the best.

“Gareth has SHL megastar written all over him. He’s a bigger body that can skate, pass, shoot, and he loves the cameras. In today’s game, the best athletes become celebrities. It’s absolutely our goal to make Gareth the celebrity he’s meant to be and make a lot of money in the process.”

Gareth Rush is set to fly into New York later today, at which point he’ll meet with his new agent, and discuss his pre-draft options.

“He is eligible to sign with an SMJHL team just before the start of the current playoffs,” Proulx explained.

“We aren’t sure if that’s the route we’ll take, but to those six SMHL general managers looking to solidify their playoff roster, my phone lines are open.”

Proulx closed his teleconference explaining that he would take his new client on an offseason, pre-draft tour of each SMJHL team.

“We’ll fly him to each city, give him some facetime with general managers, and probably some private workouts.”

Gareth Rush will enter the Season 44 SMJHL draft and then enter the SHL in Season 45.
