Welcome back for the 3rd installment of my walk down memory lane. We have reached S30, A fresh new decade. What new wonders would start this milestone 30th season of the SHL. Let us look at how the regular season shook out.

West
Dragons 35-13-2 72 Points 175 GF 120 GA
Blizzard 34-14-2 70 Points 179 GF 131 GA
Renegades 29-19-2 60 Points 163 GF 160 GA
Riot 26-18-6 58 Points 153 GF 144 GA
-----------------------------------------------------
Jets 20-19-11 51 Points 164 GF 174 GA
Panthers 22-25-3 47 Points 138 GF 162 GA
Portland 14-34-2 30 Points 109 GF 167 GA

As expected the Challenge Cup Champions win their Conference with 72 points and look poised to make a strong bid for a repeat. For the Blizzard its a minor drop but I mean come on, Alberta is going to contend for sure. The Renes also gain some traction though their goal diff worries me. Still the playoffs are a different beast. Seattle takes the 4th spot with 58 points, that is a lot for ONLY 4th best. Definite dark horse of the conference. The Jets miss again, 7 points out at that, slightly above .500 too. For the Panthers the build is slow, but steady. 12 more points than last year is a nice boost, just hope they can carry on. Since Los Angeles improved someone had to fail. Why not the Admirals? 13 less points and they were PROBABLY out by game 25 to be fair. Dismal.

East
Chiefs 34-15-1 69 Points 181 GF 136 GA
Platoon 29-14-7 65 Points 161 GF 132 GA
Rage 30-16-4 64 Points 150 GF 144 GA
Wolfpack 29-20-1 59 Points 152 GF 126 GA
---------------------------------------------------
Stars 25-19-6 56 Points 153 GF 136 GA
Stampede 14-34-2 30 Points 110 GF 182 GA
Steelhawks 9-33-8 26 Points 102 GF 176 GA

Here we are with the East. S28 the Chiefs weren't too strong, S29 they blew us away. S30? Proving they aren't a fluke with 69 points and sitting atop the Eastern Conference, though last year Toronto shocked them in round 1. They still have some proving to do. Platoon had soldiered on to a 58 point record in S29, this year they up the antie with 65. MUCH improved and it is good to see. At 3rd, wait is this right? Do my eyes deceive me? By gawd that's Manhattan's music! Yes the Rage figured out how to rebuild and have been rewarded with playoff hockey. How long can it last? Is it just a flash in the pan? 22 point jump from S29 is massive and I just have to say bravo. Stalking into the 4th spot is the Wolfpack who weren't bad in S29 but make their way in here not a bad pick overall but not one to hedge bets on. Toronto just misses only 3 points back of the playoffs after a valiant effort in the playoffs. Buffalo isn't last but with only 30 points its the same old Stampede of baby Buffalos. But you know what? Hammy is just sad. Baby birds are sitting with only 26 points. Didn't even break 10 wins after the game 7 loss to Calgary for the cup. Must have broke the bank.

Top 5 scorers.
Chernika Banananov ( Chiefs ) had 34
VLAD McZehrl ( Rage ) also had 34
Sterling Knight ( Renegades ) had 28
Pedro Sarantez ( Blizzard ) had 27
Lord Pretty Flacko ( Chiefs ) also had 27
34 goals is the new high and 2 people had them.

Top 5 in points
VLAD McZehrl ( Rage ) 34-35 for 69
Chernika Banananov ( Chiefs ) 34-33 for 67
Lord Pretty Flacko ( Chiefs ) 27-35 for 62
Bubba Nuck ( Dragons ) 14-47 for 61
Patrikov Bure ( Wolfpack ) 26-34 for 60
All 5 had 60+ compared to last yeah with only 1.

Other fun stuff
Big Manious ( Jets ) wins the Turd Ferguson with 109 PIMs.
4 players blocked over 100 shots, the top two, Viktor Svensson (POR) and Mattias Holmberg (POR) both played for Portland.
Mikko Linna ( Platoon ) was your rookie leader going 13-13 for 26 points. 2 other rookies had over 20 points.
Sean Leonidas ( Riot ) had 231 hits, talk about a Spartan effort.
Big Manious ( Jets ) had 7 fights and won 4 of them, New Heavyweight Champ no doubt.
Brett Broadway ( Blizzard ) put on a show in net during his 41 games, .917 SV% and a 2.46 GAA.
Mark Harter ( Stars ) had 7 shutouts in spite of the North Stars failing to make the playoffs.

Playoff hockey round 1
Dragons VS Riot   Dragons win in 7
Blizzard VS Renegades   Blizzard win in 6
Chiefs VS Wolfpack   Wolfpack win in 4
Rage VS Platoon    Platoon win in 7

Seattle worked hard again, taking the defending champions to 7 stunning games before falling in overtime. An error has forced me not to be able to look into but it is what it is. Texas takes games 1 and 3 while 2 and 4 go to OT and the Blizzard. Edmonton wins 5 and 6 to set up the third straight Battle of Alberta Conference final. Winner has won the last two cups so it is likely to be the same here. In the East 3 of 4 go into overtime but the New England Wolfpack sweep Minny aside. This is the second year in the row and the Chiefs are just sad in the playoffs. The Rage and Platoon duke it out to 7 games before West Kendal gives a 6-2 performance. Its and interesting year full of wonders but it is the same old teams.

Round 2
Dragons VS Blizzard   Blizzard win in 5
Platoon VS Wolfpack   Wolfpack win in 6

In the conference finals its the battle of Alberta again as well as West Kendal taking on the Wolfpack. Calgary takes game 1 2-1 on the back of Randy Randleman's 2 goals. It was all Blizzard the rest of the way, blanketing the Dragons 5-1, 5-2, 3-2, and 6-4. Sending Edmonton back to the Challenge Cup Finals. The Platoon took on the Wolfpack in the East in a series that saw them win game 1 5-2, only to lose 3-2 in extra time in game 2. Game 3 goes to New England 6-4 but the Platoon counter with a 4-2 win in game 4. Series is 3 games now and each team needs 2. Wolfpack take a hard fought game 5 4-3. Game 6 and the Platoon need a win. They didn't have much fight left as they lose 6-1 and its a date for the Cup for the up and coming Wolfpack.

Challenge Cup Finals
Blizzard VS Wolfpack   Wolfpack win in 4

Welcome to the next installment of the Challenge cup finals. The New England Wolfpack are on a comparative Cinderella run having the worst record to enter the playoffs with. Also with the game links not working this will be short. Game 1 in Edmonton goes to New England 3-2. Game 2 is a little less close with the Wolfpack winning a routine 4-2. Off to New England for game 3 in what should be exciting as yet again the Wolfpack take a 4-2 win and a strangle hold 3-0 series lead on the Blizz. Game 4 was just all Wolfpack as they hounded the Blizzard and tore them apart 5-0 to take the Challenge Cup at home. Its the first time a NON Alberta team takes it in our record here.

Top 5 Goal Scorers.
Pedro Sarantez ( Blizzard ) leads with 9
Yuri Boyka ( Renegades ) had 7 in 6 games
Nathan Russell ( Wolfpack ) had 7
VLAD McZehrl ( Rage ) had 6 in 7 games
Jaime Hill ( Dragons ) scored 6
Goals came with depth rather than from super stars.

Top 5 in Points
Nathan Russell ( Wolfpack ) lead it all going 7-12 for 19
Jasper Clayton ( Wolfpack ) went 3-13 from the back end for 16
Pedro Sarantez ( Blizzard ) went 9-7 for 16 in 15 games.
Friedrich Müller ( Blizzard ) went 3-11 for 14
4 players tied for 5th with 13 points.

Other fun
Schnitinfritz Jagr ( Dragons ) had a 60.43% Faceoff win percentage.
Dean Colt ( Blizzard ) Typically a high scorer for the blizz, Colt had 35 PIMS, most in the playoffs.
Mikael Talo ( Wolfpack ) & Mia Landvik ( Wolfpack ) both had 9 points going 4-5 and 1-8 respectively as rookies.
Nathan Russell ( Wolfpack ) threw 71 hits as a DRIVING force to help the Wolfpack to their cup.
Yuri Boyka ( Renegades ) scored the only hattrick this year in the 6 games he played.
Only 13 fights, a down year.
Jakob Tanner ( Wolfpack ) posted a .929 SV% and a 2.25 GAA to do his part for the cup. His only shutout came in game 4 of the finals.

There you have it, new decade, NEW champion Wink
1514 is the word count my grader dudes.

From a Winnipeg perspective, if you want to just *not* do Season 31 that'd be okay. :p
