All my life people have been telling me I'm lazy but destined for great things. From early on I've been on my skates zipping around, leagues above the competition in my age range. I'm not going to lie. You can call me more than fortunate. I was born with a silver spoon my mouth and the way I see it there's nothing that can be done to change that. Being the son of Luke Fleming is gonna bring some expectations your way.

Unfortunately I wasn't exactly on the radar of a lot of teams during this draft for a number of reasons some public and some not. First and foremost, I wasn't even in North America during the draft and for a month prior. I was somewhere else nobody but I knew figuring out what I wanted to do with my life. There was a lot of question as to if I was going to commit to this lifestyle. Something happened and I know that this is the right thing to do. I've been training with my half brother Ty Hoover for quite some time now on and off. We've both gone undrafted ultimately, so we will now decide which team we're going to sign with in the SMJHL together! Family should always stick together, am I right?

Since the draft day I've been in contact with a few junior GMs. Hoov and I have come to a decision on which team we will play for and the whole family is now waiting for the official announcement. If you want a hint at which team I am going to sign with, let me just say someone on the team is gifting out free gold watches.

Andy Kerr has always had a dream to play in a province and city that he could never afford to live in. Thankfully, in this economical climate, that dream came true when the Vancouver Whalers drafted Kerr - the power forward center from Moose Jaw, SK - 18th overall in the S44 SMJHL draft. Kerr, attending the draft, upon being announced as the draftee immediately leaped from his seat and began packing his bags at his table. This would've been out of place but Kerr had brought a life-sized cutout of Howie Mandel and planted it right beside himself. The rest of the draftees and families at the table applauded him packing it up rather than his name being announced as a junior professional hockey player.

When asked about how he felt being drafted 18th overall, Kerr kept his comment short and sweet, "I honestly expected to go 69th."

The memes are strong with this one. We'll see what the young man can bring to the Whaler tabler.

Draft day

I was at the draft, sitting with fellow Czech man Thomas Novak. I was super excited to find out where my new home would be for a season or more - I wasn't really expecting any GMs to decide to draft my player until we got to the late twenties... I really want to hit the big leagues as soon as possible. I saw Gareth Rush get picked up by Colorado at like i dont remember 13? I laughed "haha unlucky number 13 goes up." Well holy heckeroni that turned out super unlucky. I remember him being so obsessive over Colorado pre-draft... dunno where that went after the pick. The I saw my guy Novak be called up to the stage, also by Colorado. So I was just like damn I kinda hope I they can draft me, I really want to play with Jakub [Novak]. I was seriously caught out when Colorado called my name at 21 though, but at the same time I was super pumped. I get to play alongside Jakub, along with that nerdy ass German alexander and Voloshin - ill bet money you'll see a few clips of him on pornhub. The management was awesome, and I got greeted very nicely by the rest of the locker room. Gareth never showed up, I ended up yelling at him over social media, whatever. I'm super excited to see how I do with Colorado. Easily one of the teams I wanted to play for.

Sadly, Bedrìch Sykora was not in this year draft. He came up late and scout couldn't see him and his talent on the ice since the young Czech kid came up late in the scout lists. However, Bedrìch sees that as an advantage since he doesn't have any expectation, << I think nobody expects something out of me, I want to upset people that didn't draft me. All my life I started from the bottom and worked hard to perform, it will be the same thing here in the SHJLM.>> Sykora decided to commit to the Detroit Falcons for a 3 million contract. << I talked a lot with the GM, and I think it's the best decision for me as a player to go in Detroit. I'll learn a lot from the vet's there. Obviously, I'll not do an impact immediately, but I'm sure that in the future seasons, ill make a big impact on the game as a good offensive defenseman>>.

The microphones were checked every 60 minutes, the hull every thirty, and the computer systems every 10. For the mission to be a success, nothing could go wrong. No screw could be misplaced, no amount of power incorrectly allocated. The idea? Build something less like an Ark, more like a seed. Something not already talented, but rather something with potential. It would be the only way to save the future Russia's impending doom of its hockey drought. What better to inspire the future youth of Russia than a man, not just any man, but a man of the manliest manhood, invading the most prevalent hockey league in the world and performing at peak levels?

This is easily assured, our future son, Aleksandrov is from nowhere but the future itself, with state of the art training and "medication" to insure success. Perfection in every aspect is assured, with the highest funding from small businesses, to the high ranking bourgeoisie, to a classified amount of government funding from the Kremlin itself.

The date pinpointed, set right after the draft. The combine wouldn't be able to pick up any suspicions regarding inhuman intelligence, or strength, or any cyborg implementations. The plan was set, the contracts signed, and there was hockey to play.

Draft Day was quite exciting for Alexander Selich and his family actually. Of course they knew about the mock drafts that predicted Alexander to be selected as the first overall pick which would mean he gets picked 19 spots higher than his big brother Eduard. Even though his big brother wasn't able to completely reach his big potential it seems that the Colorado Raptors GM's really liked the Selich family and their lockeroom presence.

Well maybe it was because of the great interview Alexander had with the Colorado front office. Another reason might have been that Alexander made his intentions clear to likely play longer in the Juniors than his big brother.

Draft day near noon a representative of the Raptors gave Alexander the code word that meant he would be the first overall pick of the S44 SMJHL Draft. It instantly hit Alex, "damn it's true". Instantly a ton of emotions overwhelmed him all his hard work all these years would be acknowledged and it all would culminate in the moment that the SMJHL Commish would say his name out loud.

After the selection the big german Defender was welcomed by an entourage of people from the Raptors organization showering him with a lot of warm welcome messages. He would have to remember all their names as the future face of the franchise.

The last thoughts of Alexander before he started dreaming were: "So this is how my SHL journey will start. Time to show everybody that I will be a way better player than big bro."

Mika Mayfield attended the draft night alone and nervous. She is not the social butterfly one would expect from a vocal young lady. She was hoping that she would go to a team that was accepting of her loud mouth and character. The lights went dim as the first GM took the stage. She could feel her heart beating fast and felt like she was going to vomit with every GM that came on stage. Eventually ml walked out on stage unexpectedly with a last minute trade and called out "Mika Mayfield" She was ultimately surprised that she went in the first round, being the new kid on the block she thought she would go late in the second at the earliest. She ran up to the stage like a nerd on the first day of school and gladly accepted her new Anchorage Armada jersey when they called her name 7th overall. Since then Mika has packed her bags and moved northwards. She made a friend on the team, draftee Leopold Lockhart, and they have been so excited to get to play for the same team.

The SMJHL draft had just finished and Ty Hoover was sitting in the living room with his family watching the live coverage. His fathers, legendary Winnipeg Jet forward Luke Fleming and Zack Hoover, known for his short flare of a career with the Vancouver Whalers and New England Wolfpack sat on one couch. Ty's brother, Nicolas Fleming was on the seat next to him. Nicolas was draft eligible, but he has always been unsure of whether he wanted to commit to to hockey like his fathers, so the SMJHL teams decided to pass up on him. Nicolas is 10 months older than me and was eligible for this draft, and I had just barely missed the cut off. Or so I thought..

The day after the draft unbeknownst to me, my father Zack Hoover had called the SMJHL Head Office and submitted my name to become eligible for the upcoming SMJHL season. I had been training hard with my brother overseas to be drafted next season, so it was a great surprise to me to hear that my paperwork had been accepted. I get to play in the SMJHL.

St Louis was the one of first to contact me. My brother wanted to go there, and family has got to stick together, so look out for the Hoover-Fleming brothers in the Scarecrow yellow!

The funny thing about Nickolas Klaus is that unlike most of the players considered to be top prospects in this draft class, he actually went undrafted earlier this week. It was a ridiculous turn of events and left the massive center man feeling in the dumps, but it wasn't long until he found his way onto the roster of the Kelowna Knights after signing with them through free agency. While he may not be a huge member on the team right now as he plans to see mostly third line minutes all season, his effort to get signed so soon after the draft was certainly commendable and is a show of just how dedicated he is to being a quality player in the league. His ability to change the minds of people and to instill hope in a franchise that is trending down would be happily looked upon by his uber successful father warmly.

Arsene watched the draft from his home with a bottle of his favourite Arsenich vodka. He knew that as a late addition to the already large number of rookies he wouldn't be selected early, and as if that wasn't enough, no team expressed actual interest in him before the draft. Needless to say, he didn't bother to attend the event in person. However, it was interesting to see if any team even takes a chance on him since he didn't garner much attention prior to the draft. The game was to take a shot every time an overrated poser was selected ahead of him. By the time 2nd round came to end, Arsene was already rather drunk.
"Are there any more players left?", Arsenich mumbled as he took another shot.
"Who are these people?"
But as the bottle came to end and Arsene was getting quite nervous about whether he had to open another bottle , hearing his name was like a gift from the gods.
"You know, if that didn't happen right at that moment, I'd probably die from alcohol poisoning on the spot." he said to a friend later.
Because of timezone differences he was contacted by his new team, Anchorage Armada only on next day's evening, so he had time to sober up a bit.
"You know, I'm glad someone actually cared enough to read the whole available prospect list. Sometimes that pays off, you know." Arsene said to his new GM. "I don't care much about the pick I'm selected with as much as opportunity I'll be given. Alaska is a cool place, not so different from home, I'll feel decent there. You'll hear of me by stuff I do on ice, not what I do outside the arena."
What does that mean is left to speculation as pre season approaches and we'll see what the rookie can do.
