Where are they now?

With the 50th selection in the S43 SHL Entry Draft, the Buffalo Stampede Select Bust, from the Anchorage Armada. Looking back after Bust's career ended tragically with an on ice attack by the Colorado Raptors Jean-Pierre Gay, think Doug Glatt v. Ross Rhea with how brutal the beating was, but on a Pierre LaFlamme type player. The beat down was swift and ended a promising hockey career. Unfortunately, once his hockey career had come to an end, his life never was the same. Bust, could not let go the fact that Gay had took something he loved away from him, and vowed to enact revenge on the Raptors Goon. They say that revenge is best served cold. Bust's revenge took place 3 years to the day that his hockey career ended. The police report details a kidnapping, assault, and dumping of Jean-Pierre's body into Hamilton Harbour. Bust could not be reached for comment at the Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Centre, however, we have heard that Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, of the Netflix Making a Murderer series, have been seen leaving the prison, and have secured the rights to Bust's story.

Shaun Stephens was drafted fourth overall by the Edmonton Blizzard in the season 37 entry draft. Shaun Stephens was a top right wing prospect who entered the draft with over 300 TPE and an activity level that made him quite desirable to general managers with picks at the start of the first round.

After the Edmonton Blizzard pulled the trigger and took him before some other promising prospects like Logan Jensen, Sven Brokstad, and most notably Tor Tuck, Shaun Stephens used his signing bonus to party hard and eventually his career fizzled out due to his whipped cream addiction. Shaun Stephens ended his career with just 332 TPE and spent all of his earnings on whipped cream cans that he used to get high on N2O.

Following the promising start to his career most look back on Shaun Stephens and picture a young man with a whipped cream smeared across his face and shirt and a few empty bottles littered around him. There are some reports that Shaun Stephens can still be found around the streets of Edmonton, following current Blizzard head GM Nikolaus Scholz, haunting him with the sounds of empty whipped cream cans clattering around in a garbage bag.

Fenton Uriel was a member of the S39 draft class. Hailing from North Bruce, Canada, he jumped onto the SMJHL scene is a blaze of glory and quickly became the #1 center for the Kelowna Knights. He made is way to being one of the top centers in the league very quickly and was considered a faceoff ace. After being drafted by the Calgary Dragons with the final pick in the 2nd round of the SHL entry draft, Uriel quickly began to fall down the prospect rankings. Unfortunately for Uriel and Calgary, he never really found the ability to make it to the next level. After doing some investigating into what happened to his career, we found that rather than training to be a professional hockey player Uriel had set his sights on being a member of the Canadian military officer. Uriel spent five seasons playing for the Kelowna Knights in their top 6 in order to acquire a large amount of money that he would use as a sort of emergency fund in case his military career did not work out. Now one season out of his SMJHL career, Uriel has a fund amounting to several million dollars sitting in his bank account. After the playoffs ended he started his training at a Canadian military academy in Kingston, Ontario. Only months into his military career, Uriel has already made it to the rank of sergeant in the Royal Canadian Navy. With his sights set on becoming the youngest commodore in the history of the Royal Canadian Navy and eventually admiral, he has been working hard. His agent still has him listed as one of his clients and therefore he is still technically an SHL free agent, but Uriel cannot be expected to sign another contract in the future and it is highly unlikely that he will be approached by any team considering his development as a hockey player stagnated seasons ago.

In this week's segment of "Where are they now?" we look at one of the SHL's most coveted prospects, Steve McGirthensons.

Steve was the center of the Buffalo boys that signed with Prince George as undrafted free agents in S40, making them eligible for the S41 SHL draft. GM's, Scouts, and fans were all very high on McGirthensons because his last name was something that could have sold jerseys anywhere he played. He was a sure-fire househould name. His career started out strong and scored pretty decently as a rookie in Prince George, playing center between Doug Dimmadome and Muhammad McLovin. Everyone was so excited to see how the Buffalo Boys played out, unfortunately, only McLovin remains active in the league. Steve played one season before he lost love for the game. Steve can be found now at McDonalds, on Chippawa street in Buffalo, working the drive thru. **Disclaimer, I'm pretty sure there isn't a McDonald's on Chippawa, but you catch my drift.

KEVIN MADDOX @Toxic

Once the gem of the Colorado Raptors locker room, Kevin "Maddog" Maddox became unhappy with teammates McClure III and Savage and demanded a trade. The trade, however, saw Maddox moved with teammate and now ex-lover Savage. After winning a cup together, Savage was called up into the big league, but Maddox was even more unhappy and demanded a trade again. Now back on the Raptors, Maddox is super unhappy and refuses to speak to his teammates. He also only does the minimum, shows up to team meetings but doesn't speak. Maddox is playing some of his best hockey, but most people and players say it seems like he isn't even there. It's almost as if he is a drift. The only time Maddog shows any emotion is when he is out there, on the ice, and he throws a big hit. He doesn't even celebrate goals or assists, or wins. But knocking someone down or out brings a smile to his face.

Nearing the end of his SHL career, Ola Wagstrom had a chance encounter with his old friend from the Falcons, Dank Boija. The Finn, once a power forward winger, was now sighted at the local carnival, munching on a corn dog and throwing darts at balloons. Wagstrom saunted over and was greeted heartily by his old pal, who recounted his adventures. It had been a long time since the two co-GMed Team Scandinavia in the WJC, but since leaving the ice, Boija had become a respected and renowned international hockey coach. He had taken Team Finland to the finals six times in his tenure there, and became the Federation Head a few years back. He still wore a Falcons pin on his suit, as he was nostalgic over his juniors glory days.

Away from the game, Boija had married his high school sweetheart and  raised a family, having two sons. He had taught them both to skate from a young age, but unlike their right wing father, they were both defensemen. The oldest was 17 now, and would be leaving for college in the upcoming summer, possibly even getting drafted to the SHL. Everything seemed to have come full circle.

Where are they now: Gary Grease Edition.

S39 defensive stalwart Gary Grease was a legend within Winnipeg, but the constant cold and snow that surrounded his livelihood was the catalyst behind the awakening of another side to him. Upon retiring from the SHL, Grease opted to adopt the moniker of "Tormund Giantsbane", and took his place north of the wall amongst his wildling brethren. Unlike the southern wall which was designed to keep out Mexicans, the northern wall was built to keep out an actual threat, and Grease quickly adopted a leadership position within the clans as they plotted their move to take on the southern realms who were trying to push their agenda of "Offensive minded hockey" which was immensely offensive to the bearded giant. It's largely unclear how the northern realms are planning to launch an invasion with the ideology of defense-first hockey as they wait for their unaware enemy to make the first move against a threat they don't even know exists, but Grease has committed everything to this plan and he will see it through. When asked for a comment on the matter, Grease who was ever known for being a scholar of the game, had a simple reply of "I fucked a bear once". Bold words from a former Winnipeg Jets legend.

Let’s look at Xena, a great and loyal teammate of mine when I played in Anchorage. Xena has some elite talent, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she makes the Hall of Fame, so, after she retires from a long and successful career, I see her buying a huge mansion, and just staying there for days while playing some pickup hockey with the boys sometimes. In the meantime, during the years she’s waiting to see if she’s confirmed for the Hall of Fame, she goes an a few interviews to talk about her career, takes a few more commercials, and maybe plays an Olympic game or two, and help some youngsters start playing hockey. Then, once she’s finally confirmed for the Hall of Fame, she goes and makes her speech, gets her extra, and probably, final ring, and chills at home, watching hockey, and doing whatever she wants to do, what’s gonna stop her?

Kyle Wahlgren or Olli O’Koivu, was a very good goaltender throughout his career and lived up to that while i played with him in Minnesota. He will probably never be on the list of greatests ever as his career was not as long as some of the best, and not as successful either. His career was spent with the now defunct Portland Admirals and the amazing Minnesota Chiefs. Unfortunately Wahlgren/O'Koivu ended his career abruptly, making a surprise announcement shortly after taking home a cup for Minnesota. Once he called it quits on his playing career, he found that his time and money was abundant. In order to better enjoy his long retirement from the game, he decided to invest in a food and beverage establishment. He bought a place near the rink in Minnesota and has become something of a local legend. Slinging beers and wings every game night.

Today, on this edition of "Where are they now?" we decide to catch up with the first overall pick of the S44 draft class, Rainbow Dash. Rainbow Dash came into the league as a highly touted prospect who seemed to be a sure fire, consensus first overall pick. What happened after, was nothing short of shocking. Dash's career fizzled after they became so entangled in drugs and hookers that their career went off the rails. They were arrested multiple times before ultimately being released by the New England Wolfpack, and ordered to serve court mandated volunteer work. Dash could often be seen on the side of the highway, picking up garbage or raking leaves if you happened to drive by. When we reached out for an interview, Dash declined to comment, saying only that "they regret ever getting tangled in the league". We reached out to the Wolfpack GM for comment, and they would only say that they wish they would have drafted first ballot hall of famer, all time league points leader, and playgirl model Bernard Freeman with that pick.
