As per usual for anyone who didn't get to see tonight's exciting close game here are you crucial stats!
Your final score this evening is 3-2 for the visiting team via shootout, and it was a tight fought battle throughout and a great spectacle for everyone looking on.

Before we get to the period by period breakdown let's present our 3 Star's for this evening:
At 3rd star, with a goal and an assist we have from the Militia, Pavel Pivonka! @Schultzy

At 2nd star, with 34 saves of 36 shots we have from the Scarecrows, Willis Vincent! @RainDelay

And at 1st star, with a goal and an assist we have from the Militia, Hiro Fujikawa! @Marley

First Period
The first gave us some explosive action and showed us these teams were here to duke it out. No less than 4 Power Plays happened here, with Montreal being the fouled team on 3 occasions. Their penalty kill abilities were on show, with the first two denying the Scarecrows any advancement. They unfortunately couldn't hold out forever though, with Brock Nuck capitalising off Pavel Pivonka's cross checking minor, and converting on the man advantage. It didn't last long though, with Montreal getting it right back only 30 seconds later on an open ice play 17 minutes into the first. Combined with a penalty only a minute and a half later, the St. Louis coach must have had some choice words to say in the locker room at intermission. Final shots for the period were 8 for MTL and 6 for STL.

Second Period
Coming back out into 30 seconds left of a Power Play, the home team couldn't take advantage and the Scarecrows held their steel. The two teams went back and forth for 20 minutes but this was one of those periods where nothing particularly happens. Lots of faceoffs, missed shots, netting plays, and you have the recipe for a No Goal No Penalty period. Final shots for the period were 8 for MTL and 5 for STL.

Third Period
After the deadlock of the second, Montreal came out with a bee in their bonnet for the third. It only took them a minute and a half to take the lead through a Pavel Pivonka collected rebound. He shot it and hit the post, and on a lucky rebound collected the puck and put it away for good. The home team was in high spirits until their go ahead goal provider tripped a Scarecrow and put them back on a power play. Less than a minute into the penalty Gordie Maple had found the hole through Petr Vrana's defence, and it was a tie game. It descended into a little bit of frustration for both teams from there, with another three penalties being taken and no goals to show from it. Lots of shots and a truly exciting period to watch. On to overtime we go! Final shots for the period were 17 for MTL and 12 for STL.

Overtime and Shootout
St. Louis managed to take advantage for most of the 3 on 3 situation and put a fair amount of shots down the Militia's end, but their accuracy just wasn't there tonight. Montreal put three on Willis Vincent too, but he was rock solid and saw all of them coming. Our shootout played out as follows:
STL 1
MTL x
STL x
MTL 1
STL x
MTL x
STL 2
MTL 2
STL x
MTL x
STL x
MTL x
STL x
MTL x
STL 3
MTL x

And just like that, the Scarecrows snuck out the win from underneath the home team! Final score 2 for MTL and 3 for STL.

Tonight's Final Thoughts
Montreal finished the night with 36 shots on net, so it's no surprise that Willis Vincent got the second star for his efforts. He won the Scarecrows the game big time, with his shootout save being the final play of the night. St. Louis will be grinning after stealing this, with their comparatively low shot count of 24 being just enough to hold them in the game. Their shooters will definitely need to work on their accuracy for next time!

Thanks for tuning in and we will see you next time for another breakdown!

Stonewall Auto's Defender of the Game

Here at Stonewall Auto, we believe in keeping you safe, that's why we're proud to present to you the Defender who kept their Goalie as safe as possible.

Is there any choice in this game other than Kiko Rytmeyr?  Willis Vincent faced 36 shots tonight even after the Crow skaters blocked 20 shots.  Rytmeyr had 6 of those blocks while the entire Militia team registered 9 total.  The play after his productive hit was just the icing on the cake.  He temporarily stalls the onslaught of shots from the Militia shooters and then clears the puck with Steven Moyer to open the shooting range on the other side of the ice.  Ultimately this resulted in 3:38 of rest for Vincent at the midway mark of the game.

Comment One

Unsung Hero - Charlie Schieck - Defense - Montreal Militia

The Montreal Militia's number one defenseman, Charlie Schieck, gets this game's unsung hero award. Schieck played 24:16 MP, 2:27 of which were on the powerplay and 2:43 of which were on the penalty kill. Despite recording no shots, Schieck was still an offensive presence for the Militia, being a critical quarterback for their powerplay and helping to shutdown the few St. Louis Scarecrows chances there were during the game. Even though the Militia came out on the losing end of the game, Schieck still played the most amount of minutes than any of the other players in the game, and they were not easy minutes either.

Comment Two

Rookie of the Game - Samuel Jalopski - Defense - St. Louis Scarecrows

Jalopski gets tonight's rookie of the game. This towering Saskatoon native played 16:58 minutes, 2:32 of which were on the penalty kill. Jalopski's ability to help out his team to shut down all of Montreal's three powerplays were critical to keep the Scarecrows fighting against a team who clearly had the better of them throughout the game. Jalopski's additional contributions were two shots on goal, a hit, and sadly a roughing minor. Despite everything that happened, Jalopski has developed well into a solid top 4 physical defenseman for the Scarecrows and their push for the SMJHL playoffs.

Tomen's goalie of the game:

Petr Vrana: Why? Even though Montreal lost this game I think Vrana was still the better the goalie in this game and did everything he could to put his team in a position to succeed but the Militia dropped the ball on this one. Vrana posted a better save percentage than Vincent while facing more shots than Vincent. Vrana had a SV% of 94.44 on 36 shots while Vincent had a 91.67% on 24 shots. Again showing how well Vrana did in this game. Vrana outperformed Vincent literally in every statistic. Good Save% Vrana had 79.41% while Vincent had 54.55% in this game. Bad Rebound % was at 71.43% for Vrana while Vincent had every single one of his rebounds end up on a Montreal player stick. Even in the Shootout Vrana had a better save percentage than Vincent with 62.5% to 60% but the Militia just had 2 more players that just straight up missed the net.
