Three Stars
1 - Nolan Sawchuk (KEL)
2 - Rasmus Rasmus (KEL)
3 - Tony Pepperoni (COL)

Colorado and Kelowna have both proven to be more than competent teams this season, with Kelowana's rookie connection being one of the most potent in the entire SMJHL. With a young forward group and a hungry veteran defensive core, the Knights are looking better than ever, and in a surprise turn out were able to take down the Colorado Raptors who have shaped their entire roster around domination from the very start. The game opened in the first period with Colorado's Gvidas Kazlauskas scoring an early goal to give the Raptors the lead. Scott Niedermayer Jr. answered soon after to tie up the game before Nolan Sawchuk, the rookie sensation, brought the Knights into t

3. Kelowna Knights , Nolan Sawchuk 8 (Oliver Dahl 7, Rasmus Rasmus 5) at 15:31

The second period was just as eventful with both teams utilizing their scoring potential for a very well played period. Sawchuk potted his second goal of the game and ninth of the season, giving the Knights a 3-1 lead before veteran Nick Mckee made it a three goal game for the Knights as they sat on a comfortable lead, but not before Colorado's Kevin Maddox added his first goal of his career and brought it back to within two.

5. Kelowna Knights , Nick McKee 3 (Tye Maximino 5, Casey Matz 3) at 16:14
6. Colorado Raptors , Kevin Maddox 1 (Alex Winters 6, Tony Pepperoni 5) at 18:45

The game was fairly close moving into the third period between these two teams, and it really could have been anyone's game, especially after Philipp Winter scored a third goal for the Raptors late in the period before they would pull their goalie, although the empty net attempt would come up fruitless and the Kelowna Knights would hang for yet another win in what seems like an almost miracle season.

Comment One:

Timo Haas' Goalie of the Game

Our goaltender of the game this evening is ZzScott Foster, Foster was pulled from the stands a few games back due to his enormous size, weighing 475lbs and being 5'7", Foster has been incredibly effective just standing in front of the net, pressing his huge ass in between the posts and leaving minimal areas open. His name is actually Scott Foster but the Zz part was given to him by his teammates due to his sleep apnea and penchant to fall asleep while in net. His three goals given up this night were due to this health disorder. While awake Scott Foster was a very effective, if not unique, goaltender and helped his team devour the Raptors. Props to Scott Foster as long as he sticks in the SMJHL - because he's doing a fantastic job so far.

Comment Two:

Unsung Hero(es) brought to you by Virgin Mobile

Tonight's unsung hero award goes to Justin Siddals of the Kelowna Knights. Siddals didn't show up on the scoring sheet but his play definitely helped make a difference for the Kelowna squad. The Knights center won over 50% of his faceoffs (12 of 20) and pitched in with three shots and 4 hits. The young center helped set the pace for the Knights on this night and was a defensive marvel. Winning key faceoffs in moments when the team needed to have control of the puck, and punishing the Raptors team every time he was on the ice. Siddals may not show up as a player who even assisted on a goal, but he assisted the team in many other ways. A great game by Justin Siddals and that is why we have chosen him as the Unsung Hero of the Game.

Comment Three:

Carl's Jr. Star of the Game

Our Carl's Jr. Star of the Game is SMJHL Rookie Nolan Sawchuk. Nolan played a hell of a game tonight and is the defining player for the Knights on this night. Sawchuk pitched in two goals for his squad, one in the first period for the nights and the second in the opening minuts of the 2nd period on the Power Play. His second goal turned out to be the game leveling goal but at the time put the Knights up 3-1 and made coming back an uphill climb for the Colorado Raptors. While the Raptors did manage to storm back to bring the game within one in the dying minutes, the play of Sawchuk helped guarantee Kelowna would be set up for points in this one and with the goal by Nick McKee, they secured their win. A great game by Sawchuk and we expect to see many more.

Stonewall Auto's Defender of the Game

Here at Stonewall Auto in St. Louis, we believe in keeping you safe, that's why we're proud to present to you the Defender who kept their Goalie as safe as possible.  Tonight we're taking a look outside of our regular Scarecrows programming for a match up between the Colorado Raptors and Kelowna Knights.

One of two skaters to have multiple blocks, Rasmus Rasmus of the Knights is our Defender of the Game.  ZzScott Foster faced 26 shots in their win tonight, with 5 total blocks from his skaters out front.  Rasmus led this defensive effort with two clean blocks and two productive hits.  On his first hit, he was able to throw off the Raptors attack before teammate Oliver Dahl sent the puck down for an icing.  After that faceoff however, he kept the effort up and got the puck all the way down ice cleanly.  His second hit did not go so smoothly as Alex Winters was able to pick it back up and make a shot anyway.  It did seem like the hammer by Rasmus threw off Winters enough that Foster was able to swat away the shot.

Player of the Game:
The player of the game tonight is Kelowna Knights rookie forward Nolan Sawchuk. He put up 2 goals in this game, bringing his season total up to 9 now. He's certainly outplayed expectations set by many for this season. His first goal of the game was assisted by Oliver Dahl and Rasmus Rasmus during the second half of the first. This gave Kelowna a one goal lead, which they took and ran with for the rest of the game. Sawchuk would add on a second goal during the second period, which was assisted by Shouta Aizawa and again Rasmus Rasmus while on the powerplay. A strong performance helped lead Kelowna over Colorado, and we expect Sawchuk to continue the season strong with games like these.

Kelowna Needing PP Work?:
Saying that Colorado ran into some penalty trouble in this game might be a bit of an understatement. They had 7 penalties and gave the Knights 7 power plays. However they can be very thankful in the fact that Kelowna scored only 2 goals on these 7 power plays. That's an abysmal 28.57% during this game. Talking to Kelowna head coach we learned this.
"Of course you'd like the powerplay to be better but we got the win so I'm not too worried. We converted a couple times and we'll work on it in practice so you should see that percentage go up. I'm not worried at all."
We'll see if that philosophy works out for them in a couple games down the road.

Toyota Defensive Forward of the Game:
Tonight's Toyota defensive forward of the game belongs to Kelowna Knights centre Justin Siddals. Siddals had a very strong game on the defensive side of the puck. He was even in plus/minus despite not scoring any points, and won 12 of his 20 faceoffs taken, or 60%. Siddals also had 4 hits, including a big hit against J.P. Gay which resulted in him causing a turnover and creating a quality scoring chance for his team later on. His play tonight was a big reason as to why Kelowna was able to come out on top against a strong Colorado Raptors team.

Tomen's goalie of the game:

ZzScott Foster: Why? Both were fairly close but in the end Foster just posted a better save percentage than Colorado Raptors backup goalie Aleksandrov with 88.46% to 85.71%. Their Good Save % and Bad Rebound% numbers were almost identical which again made Save percentage the deciding factor for me. Foster had a Good Save% of 69.57% while the Raptors goalie was able to have a 70.83% there. Just slightly outperforming Foster . Both goalies had the exact identical Bad rebound % though with 71.43%. Both goalies didn't exactly helped their teams but Foster was simply not as bad as Aleksandrov in this game.
