First Period
Hoo boy, for the first period to have a total of 20 shots not a lot else happened. Luckily it was a tight knit affair so the fans weren't completely frustrated, but after the first goal at just under 2 minutes in there wasn't anything else to report. The coaches probably just had a sleep in the intermission and told the players to keep up the pressure. Final shots for the period were 9 for HAL and 11 for VAN.

Second Period
The boys came back out swinging for the second, but both managed to keep their cool. Halifax applied on the pressure by adding another goal after Vancouver had successfully killed a penalty, and then roughed up the opposition for good measure. Topping it all off, they killed the Whalers Power Play to seal the end of the period, and surely got into the heads of Vancouver. Final shots for the period were 6 for HAL and 5 for VAN.

Third Period
Vancouver came out angry in the third, and got under the skin of the Raiders and made them take a needless penalty. Finally able to convert on the PP, they closed the gap back to 1. After trading penalties, Halifax brought the game back in their favour and broke through Vancouver's special teams. The whalers dug deep to try and get the tie, but just couldn't get past Justin Willis, who finished the game with a 0.96 save percentage. Final shots for the period were 3 for HAL and 9 for VAN.

Tonight's Final Thoughts
A gritty little affair between these two teams saw an excited home base take away (in the end), a deserved victory. Vancouver had the shots but just weren't there emotionally to really bring it back after going two down both times. They didn't necessarily do anything wrong, sometimes you just get unlucky and have to suffer the losses. Final shots for each team were 18 for HAL and 25 for VAN.

Thanks for tuning in and we will see you next time for another breakdown!

Dominos Play of the Game

It doesn't take a genius to know that it isn't a good thing to get scored on to begin a hockey game. At the professional level it's just as deflating as any other, more so even. Sometimes a team can get over it but this wasn't one of those nights for the Vancouver Whalers as Mr. Faceoffs scored just 1 minute and 54 seconds into the game off a slick pass from Dominic Montgomery. The Whalers didn't end up answering back in the first period. While the Halifax Raiders didn't increase their lead immediately, they did score another goal in the second period and then another in the third. This first deflating goal led to the winning effort in our opinions and that's why this is our Dominos play of the game.
