Knights  vs.  Scarecrows
GAME LINK

The puck drops and the action gets started between the St. Louis Scarecrows and the Kelowna Knights. The crowd is especially loud this evening.

First Period:

As the game progressed the St. Louis Scarecrows seemed to be getting the better chances. Just two minutes into the game Nicolas Fleming would shake Casey Matz off the puck with a hit and attempt to score shortly thereafter, but Scott Foster was there with the save. A few minutes later into the period Scott Niedermayer Jr. would lay Nicholas Williams out with a center ice hit before going offside. It was definitely getting chippy at this point. No goals were scored  in the rest of the period and shots ended up 8 to 5 in favor of the Crows.

Second Period:

The second period began and it seemed as though some words were being exchanged on the ice. Nicky Pedersen Jr. and Sanyi Koesis both took minor penalties for hooking and slashing respectively after a scrum spontaneously broke out. This seemed to be exactly what the Crows were looking for though as they generated chances one after another soon after, capped off with a slap shot clapper from Samuel Jalopski manning the blue line for the Crows. Assists would go to Nicholas Williams and Gordie Maple. The Kelowna Knights were not giving up though. They killed off two penalties in a row and subsequently tied the game with a nice goal from Nikolas Klaus after they ended up with a power play of their own. As if this effort wasn't enough they would score an even strength goal squeaked between Willis Vincent's pads minutes after off the stick of Oliver Dahl. 2-1 Knights.

Third Period:

Casey Matz would take another penalty a minute into the period, leading to the Knights putting on a good penalty killing performance. Slip McScruff would take a penalty as well and roles were reversed for a short while. The St. Louis Scarecrows finally seemed to come alive and put some shots on net but Scott Foster was determined to snuff out their flame. Scott Niedermayer Jr. would take a key penalty though, and because of this the Crows were able to score a power play goal thanks to Jerry Larry thirteen minutes and fourty two seconds into the period. The assault was continued in favor of St. Louis but the score remained 2-2 at the end of the period. Overtime action was on the way.

Overtime:

Just twenty one seconds into the overtime action Vlasislav Konstantin would rip a puck at Willis Vincent who would give up a rebound which was leaped on by one Shouta Aizawa. 3-2 Knights. The Knights celebrated their victory after a very tense and evenly matched game.

Final Score and Summary:

Knights 3 - Scarecrows 2

The St. Louid Scarecrows probably felt that they were cheated out of this one. Getting to overtime and losing within 30 seconds is a tough pill to swallow, but on the other hand this was a great victory for the Kelowna Knights.

Three Stars:

3rd Star: Scott Foster

Some people just don't train, man. That's the deal with this boy Scott Foster. He's an enigma in the sense that he shouldn't be anywhere near as good as he is with the off ice habits he is known to have. What are you going to do about it though? He put up insane numbers tonight with a save percentage of .949.

2nd Star: Vladislav Konstantin

As a sniper you're primarily looking to generate some goals. You'll never be mad with a three assist performance though and that's exactly what Vladislav Konstantin produced tonight. He also put up two shots and one hit in just over twenty two minutes of ice time.

1st Star: Shouta Aizawa

Shouta Aizawa plays a two way game and he definitely showed that style off tonight. With one goal and one assist he led his team in this victory, no doubt. He also recorded a +2 rating and had one hit and one blocked shot along with winning over 50 percent of his faceoffs. There's not much else you could ask of him.

Unsung Hero - Scott Niedermayer Jr. - Defense - Kelowna Knights

Despite not being as flashy as some of his teammates were during the game, Niedermayer Jr. was a steady and consistent rock for the Kelowna defense during this game. With an astonishing 23:27 minutes played, 4:14 of which were on the penalty kill, recording an assist on the game winning goal and taking one penalty (albeit it lead to the game tying goal), Niedermayer Jr. was the unsung hero for Kelowna's 3-2 overtime win against the St. Louis Scarecrows. Additionally, Niedermayer Jr. recorded 4 shots on goal, two hits, and was a vital part of Kelowna's 50% powerplay unit. If Niedermayer Jr. does not play like he did tonight, it's not Kelowna's game to win. Easily.

Rookie of the Game - Samuel Jalopski - Defense - St. Louis Scarecrows

The rookie of the game goes to 9th Overall Pick, Samuel Jalopski. This behemoth of a defenseman was a force for the Scarecrows, potting the opening goal, and logging 15:37 for the Scarecrows, 1:07 of that being on the Scarecrows' hit-or-miss penalty kill for this evening. Despite the Scarecrows losing the game in the end, Jalopski was a steady and responsible player for the Scarecrows, and eased more into his second pairing role as the game progressed. A lot has been demanded of the Saskatoon native, and in response, the 6'4" giant has shown the SMJHL world that he is worth every second of icetime with his ability to break up opposing plays and create equally dazzling plays from his own end.

Harrington's Thoughts - Despite Thrilling OT Win, Knights Still Lost

Up until this game, Kelowna has been a .500 team despite the majority of their team's core in the midst of a transition from the "old guard" to the recent draftees. This was shown throughout the game, as despite picking up a quick 2-1 lead and holding it for the majority of the game, their immaturity and inexperience came to fruition with a poorly timed interference penalty by Scott Niedermayer Jr., one of the supposed leaders of the team. St. Louis tied the game up with a fabulous powerplay goal not long after. What the Knights need right now, is an identity. Are they the young underdogs trying to topple the established powers, or are they trying to transition their roster? Are their rookies strong enough right now to carry the team to the playoffs, or is this a growing season for them?

This win may have helped the Knights in the standings, but in the locker room, up in the offices, and deep down, the question still stands: who are the S44 Kelowna Knights?

Stonewall Auto's Defender of the Game

Here at Stonewall Auto in St. Louis, we believe in keeping you safe, that's why we're proud to present to you the Defender who kept their Goalie as safe as possible.

Tonight's Defender is someone who managed to get a lot done even though he was given the least amount of ice time.  Rowdy Smithers is on the 4th pair, getting a meager 7:27 TOI, but with that he produced the most Hits (1) + Shots Blocked (2) at 3.  His +0 rating means that he did his job tonight, as we can see the Knights could not score in the 7:27 minutes of the game that he owned, not for lack of trying. Most importantly, one of his blocked shots and his hit came in a valiant stand during the last minute of regulation while the Knights swarmed the St. Louis zone for the entire minute. Rowdy and his pair mate Julio Ruiz kept this game tied and forced the overtime.

1st Line Centers - Head to Head
[Image: LT9nrfh.png]

Knights' Penalty Kill
Both the Scarecrows and the Knights managed to score on the PP tonight, but Kelowna did so on only 2 attempts while St. Louis needed five attempts to get one past ZzScott Foster. The Knight's PK was outstanding all night, and were a key factor in them going home with the W tonight. Leading the way was their top line centre Shouta Aizawa, who played over 5 minutes on the PK alone. Four other Knights played over 4 minutes on the PK. But goalie ZzScott Foster, the unheralded, undrafted goaltending phenom for the Knights was their best PKer all game, and many of his 36 saves tonight came with a man down.

Tomen's goalie of the game:

Zzzbot Foster: Why? This is one of the easiest decision ever. Foster just dominated in this game and St. Louis Scarerows backup Willis Vincent was picked apart by the Kelowna Knights. Foster posted a great 94.87% save percentage on 39 shots while Vincent had one of 86.36% on just 22 shots. Foster even posted a better good save % with 81.08% compared to Vincent's 78.95%. Vincent had one statistic in which he outperformed Foster which was the bad rebound % with 75% to Foster's 85.71%. All in all one can easily see that Foster was the reason the Knights won this game.
