Top 100 SHL Players of Today!
Season 46

Welcome back everyone, to the seasonal top 100 players of today. So for those who do not know, this is the 27th edition of this article, awarding the top 100 players heading into the 46th season.

I'd like to give a big thanks to everyone who has helped me over the years and who has helped keep the players and teams accurate each season.

I used a points system which graded over 130 players, narrowing the list down to 100 and ranking those elite 100 players of the SHL.

I'd like to ask the media grader to wait for my PM before grading this article.

100. (S38) C (New England Wolfpack) - Artemi Berezin || Returning Entry
Grade: 62.45
Past Seasons: S44-69

Starting off the list is a returning entry for the New England Wolfpack. Artemi Berezin has been pretty darn consistent in the last few seasons, scoring at least 30 points and topping it off with 16 goals and 35 points. Is this kind of production enough to keep him on the list for good this time? That remains to be seen, and he will have to seriously improve his game in the next couple of seasons if he wants to stick around, especially considering regression is right around the corner.

99. (S38) LW (Buffalo Stampede) - TJ Bayley || New Entry
Grade: 62.68
Past Seasons: None

The first new entry of the list is TJ Bayley, a Stampede youngster who isn't getting any younger at this point. However he is at least starting to move up in the ranks offensively, scoring 19 goals and 32 points. It is very rare to see players with so many goals and so few assists, which may be a problem with the team as a whole and not so much Bayley. Unfortunately for Bayley he also has regression right around the corner, and isn't improving to a degree that will likely keep him on the list for terribly long.

98. (S30) D (New England Wolfpack) - Viatcheslav Orlov || Returning Entry
Grade: 62.91
Past Seasons: S37-90, S38-47, S39-31, S40-36, S41-30, S42-70

At 98 is Wolfpack defenseman Viatcheslav Orlov, back on the list after quite the hiatus (which we don't normally see with the player coming back on the list). What is most surprising is he did this scoring a paltry 2 goals and 12 points on the year. Was it possibly the fact his hitting game has ramped up in his older age? It is not known, but with the lack of points he has put up lately it is unlikely we see him again on this list.

97. (S40) RW (Manhattan Rage) - James Dekens || +3
Grade: 63.06
Past Seasons: S45-100

Young future star James Dekens comes into the list at 97, getting on the list in only his third season in the SHL. Dekens has had a pretty darn good start to his career, scoring at least 30 points in his first three seasons. S45 had him scoring 16 goals (tying his rookie season) and 31 points, though the Rage had some major struggles defensively and Dekens was not immune to them.

96. (S36) RW (Hamilton Steelhawks) - Nour Harrak || Returning Entry
Grade: 63.44
Past Seasons: S43-98

At 96 is Steelhawks winger Nour Harrak, back on the list but still quite close to being left off the list entirely. Harrak scored 9 goals and 38 points in S45, very close to his career high back in S42 where he scored 17 goals and 42 points. With regression hitting him there is no guarantee that he will be able to stick around on the list, especially without any kind of physical or two-way game to speak of.

95. (S38) LW (Toronto North Stars) - Lyndis Vakarian || New Entry
Grade: 63.88
Past Seasons: None

At 95 is North Stars winger Lyndis Vakarian, a new entry on the list despite not exactly improving much on his game lately. HE scored 17 goals and 31 points in S45, not besting his career high of the previous season, but at least he was able to get a few hits in (but not many at all).

94. (S37) RW (Texas Renegades) - Logan Jensen || -18
Grade: 63.96
Past Seasons: S43-99, S44-71, S45-76

At 94 we have the SHL lightning-rod in Logan Jensen, a player who came into the league guns a blazin and now appears to have fallen to mediocrity at this point. Jensen scored 17 goals and 31 points in S45, which isn't all that great, but the most telling aspect of his career has been the lack of any kind of physical game. What happened to the Jensen that we saw coming out of the draft?

93. (S38) RW (Calgary Dragons) - Hunter Jones || New Entry
Grade: 64.26
Past Seasons: None

At 93 is Dragons winger Hunter Jones, another new entry on the list and for damn good reason. Hoping to be the centerpiece of the next Dragons rebuild, Jones has really taken a new step to his game, scoring 18 goals and 39 points last season, even though he definitely has room to improve. Him being a -3 with 0 hits isn't going to wow people all that much, and it is something that he will need to get taken care of very shortly.

92. (S36) RW (San Francisco Pride) - Dionýz Vyskoč || -6
Grade: 64.91
Past Seasons: S44-94, S45-86

A new San Francisco Pride acquisition, Dionýz Vyskoč, comes into the list at 92, dropping back a little bit from before. Vyskoč scored 11 goals and 33 points last season, neither a career high and not what we were expecting from the winger at this stage in his career. The most concerning thing is it seems like he has been a very hit or miss kind of player, and that inconsistency isn't going to get you many places.

91. (S34) C (New England Wolfpack) - Xander Green || -21
Grade: 65.16
Past Seasons: S43-47, S44-42, S45-70

At 91 is Wolfpack centerman Xander Green, who continues his downward slide while combating regression, and making it seem like he isn't all that interested in getting back to the glory days as a top-50 player. Green scored 15 goals and 34 points, was -5, and registered a whopping 4 hits on the season, all with his underlying numbers dropping at a very unfortunate rate. At this point in his career, is this going to be the end for Green?

90. (S40) LW (Manhattan Rage) - Reginald Rove || -6
Grade: 65.31
Past Seasons: S44-86, S45-84

At 90 is Rage winger Reginald Rove, a player who only a couple seasons ago seemed poise to make a big break in the league, then followed it up with inconsistent play and a lack of accountability. S45 wasn't much different, as Rove saw his offense slide again with only 16 goals and 33 points. Not to mention he was -22 on the season, putting him at a career -71 and without any kind of real success to speak of.

89. (S41) LW (Tampa Bay Barracuda) - Flacko Lagerfield || New Entry
Grade: 65.43
Past Seasons: None

Flacko Lagerfield starts off the 80s as a new entry, really coming out of nowhere on this list. Lagerfield came through in a big way in S45, scoring 21 goals and 44 points, while improving his physical game and finishing with a +3, the best of his career. While those last two stats might not mean much, the fact he is making improvements in these categories means that he may be a two-way monster in the years to come.

88. (S38) RW (West Kendall Platoon) - Gabriel Wong || New Entry
Grade: 65.60
Past Seasons: None

At 88 is Platoon winger Gabriel wong, flying under the radar a little bit and contributing quietly to the Platoon's success as of late. Wong scored 12 goals and 38 points in S45, good for career highs in both, but unlike the previous player did not improve on his defensive and physical games, which is surprising considering how well he was improving on those marks in previous seasons.

87. (S36) D (New Orleans Specters) - Karl Hefeweizen || +9
Grade: 66.30
Past Seasons: S41-68, S42-22, S43-62, S44-55, S45-96

At 87 is newly acquired Karl Hefeweizen of the New Orleans Specters. Hefeweizen is looking to jumpstart his careeer after a decent, but not so great career in Winnipeg and getting picked up by the Specters in the expansion draft. Hefeweizen scored 16 points in his final Jets season, so he definitely has a lot of work to do to jump-start his career, and at his age that may be a long shot. However he did bump himself up a ranking, so there is that.

86. (S39) C (Manhattan Rage) - Yannick Berger || -5
Grade: 66.36
Past Seasons: S44-68, S45-81

At 86 is Rage center Yannick Berger, the original Blizzard now Rage center who is starting to find his niche in the league. Berger has been very consistent and productive with Manhattan, though he hasn't demonstrated any real elite qualities just yet, and has scored an average of 38 points the last four seasons. That is pretty impressive, and will be vital for the Rage if they want to contend again. But the question still remains if Berger will be able to take his game to another level and become the superstar many originally anticipated.

85. (S39) LW (Buffalo Stampede) - Viktor Marius || Returning Entry
Grade: 66.86
Past Seasons:  S43-85

Back on the list is Viktor Marius of the Buffalo Stampede, who may have not deserved to be off the list in the first place (though it has been two straight seasons prior to this one with him not on the list). He did have somewhat of a resurgence in his play in S45 with 18 goals and 39 points, but unfortunately has not been able to get back to his S42 campaign, which at this point may never happen.

84. (S38) RW (Los Angeles Panthers) - Joshua Woodcroft || +8
Grade: 67.26
Past Seasons: S45-92

At 84 is Panthers winger Joshua Woodcroft, steadily rising but is an unknown at this point to how far he will actually rise. Woodcroft has scored 30 points in the last three seasons, but hasn't really improved any of his game to a significant degree, meaning he could simply be a 30+ point scorer for the prime of his career. That wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, but considering he scored 37 points in his third season there should be a little bit more of an expectation for him to succeed.

83. (S35) D (West Kendall Platoon) - Shoyu Kikkoman || -36
Grade: 67.85
Past Seasons: S41-29, S42-26, S43-57, S44-46, S45-47

At 83 is Platoon defender Shoyu Kikkoman, taking a hard drop out of the top-50 (the first one so far on this list) and falling to the 80s. Kikkoman had quite the meteoric rise, entering the list at number 29 after his career high 10 goals and 42 points. However since then he hasn't done much of anything, culminating with his last season in West Kendall where he scored only 3 goals and 10 points. He is in regression, which may explain it, but to such a heavy degree really is baffling.

82. (S31) D (Los Angeles Panthers) - Matthew Leetch || +9
Grade: 67.89
Past Seasons: S39-94, S40-79, S41-60, S42-4, S43-5, S44-22, S45-91

At 82 is Panthers defenseman Matthew Leetch, moving a little bit up in the list but unlikely to move back to where he was back a couple seasons ago, scoring 1 goal and 19 points in S45. Leetch definitely is past his prime at this point, and while he has had a pretty productive career and has been a pretty solid contributor, he just hasn't had the talent to push through regression that some other players have been.

81. (S43) RW (Manhattan Rage) - Alex Winters || New Entry
Grade: 68.12
Past Seasons: None

At 81 is a very young player in Alex Winters, enjoying a spot on the list after his first full season (a rarity in the top-100). He scored 18 goals and 42 points with the Rage in S42, and was able to lead the team in scoring and win the Ryan Jesster Trophy as a result. Considering he has spent very little time in the league and is already starting to turn heads, this could be the start of a long and very fruitful career. But can he keep it up?

80. (S31) RW (Winnipeg Jets) - Ace Redding || Returning Entry
Grade: 68.29
Past Seasons: S34-78, S35-42, S36-8, S37-8, S38-15, S39-16, S40-11, S41-23, S42-51, S43-58

Another player coming back to the list is Ace Redding of the Winnipeg Jets, who two seasons prior to S45 really had trouble getting his act together. He lost his touch the last season in Edmonton, and when he went to Seattle (now Tampa Bay) the bad habits simply compounded into a second straight mediocre season. However he has gotten back to his game, and in S45 he was able to score 13 points in 13 games with the Renegades who traded for him at the deadline. Can he continue this streak with the Winnipeg Jets?

79. (S36) C (Minnesota Chiefs) - Éric Pelletier || 18
Grade: 69.11
Past Seasons: S45-97

100. (S38) C (New England Wolfpack) - Artemi Berezin || Returning Entry

98. (S30) D (New England Wolfpack) - Viatcheslav Orlov || Returning Entry

97. (S40) RW (Manhattan Rage) - James Dekens || +3

94. (S37) RW (Texas Renegades) - Logan Jensen || -18

92. (S36) RW (San Francisco Pride) - Dionýz Vyskoč || -6

91. (S34) C (New England Wolfpack) - Xander Green || -21

90. (S40) LW (Manhattan Rage) - Reginald Rove || -6

87. (S36) D (New Orleans Specters) - Karl Hefeweizen || +9

86. (S39) C (Manhattan Rage) - Yannick Berger || -5

84. (S38) RW (Los Angeles Panthers) - Joshua Woodcroft || +8

83. (S35) D (West Kendall Platoon) - Shoyu Kikkoman || -36

82. (S31) D (Los Angeles Panthers) - Matthew Leetch || +9

Alonzo Garbanzo Final Tallies (Among Defensemen):
