Prospect Showcase - Blazers
#1

The S46 Prospect Showcase has been off and running for two and a half days now and we've seen each team play 16 games total. The Blazers still find themselves atop the leader board with an 11-5 record. They have absolutely demolished the Wranglers so far this tournament and that's been a big contributor to their success it seems. The Vipers (9-6-1) and the Stingrays (8-8) are much more evenly matched and their records show it so far.  The Wranglers are the runts of this litter with their 4-9-3 record, maybe they can pick it up later today in the final few games.

The Good

First off... the record is good. 11-5 is really just a dream start for the Blazers and one they'll hope to continue throughout. The Blazers are 7-1 at home so far and they simply don't lose there. Playing the Wranglers has been very good for the Blazers, otherwise they probably wouldn't have such a great record. Alexander Andersson-Grande has been solid between the pipes for the Blazers, netting them 2nd place in GA. This is a major reason they handled the Wranglers so dominantly. The top 6 for the Blazers has been quite good as well. L'Eclair, Banananak, and Hagan have lit up opposing teams with 26, 22, and 20 points respectively and shut them down in their own end as well. Soderberg and Laraque have carried the 2nd line so far, with 26 and 21 points respectively.

The Bad

The Blazers depth scoring could be a bit better. They rank 3rd in the tournament in GF and that just won't get the job done with the way the goaltenders are performing this year. The elephant in the room is that the Blazers haven't performed well against anyone except for the Wranglers. Although it's a small sample size, they are 1-1 against the Stingrays and 1-3 against the Vipers. Nothing to be happy about. In those 6 games outside of their conference they have scored 20 goals and given up 28. Very concerning. Lex Peters could pick it up a bit. The center only have 12 points through 16 games and hasn't contributed much to his line as of yet. Brolias Hawking and Sergi Volchenkov have been pretty abysmal as well, combining for 9 points through 16 games. At least one of them is positive though...

The Ugly

The Blazers are really living up to their name... post game in the locker room they're all eating chips, bagel bites, and ordering pizza. Maybe this team has gotten too close over the tournament and a little too comfortable? It's reported they voted for captain based on who could take the biggest bong hit.

Looking Ahead

The Blazers will look to improve their record against the Stingrays as they play them four times later tonight. These four games are paramount as the Blazers need to take the one seed into the playoffs in order to match up against the Wranglers. Although if they do well tonight, they could afford a first round match up with the Stingrays as well.
