First Period
Just 24 seconds into the game, Lethbridge's Dickens Makeout-King takes a hooking call for hauling down Michael Fox at center ice. The Scarecrows are unable to capitalize with the man-advantage but get some quality scoring chances, including four shots on net. Lethbridge and St. Louis trade chances back and forth for a few minutes but Sorokin and Nadeau hold their ground to keep the game a scoreless tie. About seven and a half minutes elapsed in the opening period with a face-off deep in the Lions' zone and Hoover wins the draw for St. Louis. He feeds it to Fleming in the slot and he pumps it home to put the Scarecrows up 1-0!

Scarecrows GOAL 1. St. Louis Scarecrows , Nicolas Fleming 8 (Ty Hoover 7) at 7:46 Scarecrows 1 Lions 0

About a minute later, St. Louis is looking for more around the Lethbridge net but Tyler Tougard takes a goaltender interference call when he piles on top of Nadeau in the crease. The Lions go to the powerplay, their first of the game. They are not able to put any quality chances on net and have a hard time getting their powerplay set up as they record just one shot on goal and take a couple of icing calls. Some 5-on-5 play now with chances going either way, six minutes remaining in the period. The Lions work the puck around in their own zone but have an arrant pass picked off by Issac Yamada. Yamada dishes it to Taisei-Tiikeri Wawazat for a one-timer and makes no mistake in bulging the twine to put the Scarecrows up by a deuce!

Scarecrows GOAL 2. St. Louis Scarecrows , Taisei-Tiikeri Wawazat 4 (Isaac Yamada 5) at 14:35 Scarecrows 2 Lions 0

The period concludes on a fairly quiet note and the St. Louis Scarecrows take a 2-0 lead to the locker room after 20 minutes of play.

Second Period
The middle frame does not showcase nearly as much action as the first one as far as shots or scoring chances are concerned. 20 seconds in, St. Louis gets an opportunity to extend their lead. They are working a cycle down low in the Lethbridge zone and Yamaguchi threads a pass from behind the net to Fleming in the slot for a tremendous scoring opportunity but Nadeau flashes the leather and robs him point blank. The Lions counter back with an attack of their own but nothing is making it to the net as the Scarecrows are blocking everything and not allowing anything to get on their net. Seven minutes in, Lethbridge's Joln DuBolk takes a tripping minor for taking down Filip Zadina. Lethbridge does a great job on the penalty kill, not allowing a single shot on goal with a couple of key blocked shots. Joln DuBolk is assessed another minor  penalty with under five minutes to go in the period when he holds up Zadina. The St. Louis powerplay fails to connect again but not for a lack of trying. They record two shots on goal with the extra man and a bunch of missed shots. With time winding down in the period, Lethbridge gets a huge chance to cut their deficit in half when Austin Roenick fires a slapshot that Roger Baston tips on the way to the goal but squeaks just wide of a yawning cage. The period comes to a conclusion with the Scarecrows still leading 2-0 heading into the final 20 minutes of play.

Third Period
The third period featured a bit more action than the second period, with the Lions attempting to make a comeback and the Scarecrows attempting to put the final nail in the coffin. Early on, both clubs are trading chances back and forth but the goaltenders are standing tall and not giving out many rebounds. The rebounds that do get out, are knocked into the corner or cleared from harm's way. Late in the game, with just over four minutes remaining, Lethbridge gets an opportunity when Gordie Boomhover takes a hooking penalty. Unfortunately for them, they only manage a single shot on net and halt any momentum they had with an offside and a pair of icing calls. St. Louis milks the remaining time off of the clock and take the win by a score of 2-0!

3 Stars of The Game:

1st star: Billy Sorkin Scarecrows
Billy Sorkin was the first star in this game for the Scarecrows and he stopped all 22 shots from the Lions. In the first period to Lions managed to take a total of 11 shots and Sorkin was able to handle all 11 without a problem. Sorkin also made a few huge saves while his team was trying to kill a powerplay for the Lions.

2nd Star: Taisei-Tiikeri Wawazat Scarecrows
Wawazat is the 2nd of this hockey game and his stat line was filled. In only 12 minutes of ice time he had one goal, which was the game winning goal. Was a plus one, had two shots and one hit. A very well rounded game for the young Wawazat.

3rd Star: Nicolas Fleming
Nicolas Fleming was the third star of this game. He opened up the game with a goal for the Scarecrows. Fleming was all over the Lions in their defensive zone, Fleming had a game leading 6 shots and was a real problem for the Lion's defenders in tonight's game.

Goalies Shines From Both Sides
Both Billy Sorkin who is the Scarecrows goalie and Patrice Nadeau who is the Lions goalie both have really good games. There was only 2 total goals scored in this game. Sorkin was able to stop all 22 shots and Nadeau was able to make 26 saves on 28 shots. Both goalies made important saves during their respected teams penalty kills and it helped keep the score close for the entire game. Nadeau was helped out by his defense much more than Sorkin was because Nadeau's defense had 12 blocked shots, while Sorkin's defense only had 5.

Scarecrows Dominant Faceoff Dot
The Scarecrows were winning draws often in this game and they had a total of 47 faceoff wins while the Lions only had 34 faceoff wins. The leading faceoff taker for the Scarecrows was Ty Hoover who won 21 out of 29 faceoffs. An impressively dominant stat that a lot of people might not see. The second best faceoff taker on the night for the Scarecrows was Michael Fox who won 10 out of 18 faceoffs. The leading faceoff taker for the Lions was Cant Eykhil who won 13 out of 21 faceoffs. Fox Sports Midwest Five Stars of the Night

Star 1: Billy Sorokin – With a shutout and 22 saves in the game, it is clear that the goalie should be the first star in this game.

Star 2: Taisei-Tiikeri Wawazat – With 1 goal in this game on two shots, this player deserves the second star of this game. Despite his lousy faceoff numbers, he was the one who sealed the deal in the first period.

Star 3: Nicolas Fleming – With the game winning goal, this player performed very well in the game. He is making his case for the league MVP trophy.

Star 4: Isaac Yamada – With one helper, this Yamada played very well this game.

Star 5: Ty Hoover – Winning almost all of his faceoffs and also putting up a point places this player in the fifth star category.

Strong Faceoffs

Being a center is tough, but the centers of the St Louis Scarecrows make it look easy. With 47 out of 81 wins, they controlled the circle. However, these stats are pretty skewed. If we take a look at specific players we can see the real picture. Ty Hoover controlled the circle tonight winning 21 out of 29 faceoffs. This is very important to the Crow’s top line and will help them throughout the season. Also, Michael Fox put up great numbers as well with 10 out of 18 wins. This is above a .5 faceoff win rate. Finally, Brolias Hawking contributes to the 4th line by winning 8 out of 9 faceoffs tonight. It is clear that the Scarecrows will use this to their advantage come playoff time.

Strong Goaltending

Usually, the Scarecrow’s goaltender Billy Sorokin can have some off nights. This was most definitely not an off night. Throughout the game he faced 22 shots and saved all of them. The Lethbridge Lions have many heavy shooters on their roster like Monkey D. Luffy and Roger Baston. In total these players created 1 shot on goal. This tells us a lot about the Scarecrow’s defense and the strength of their goaltending. All in all, it is clear that these Scarecrows are a stacked team and will be a threat in the future. I am very excited to see where Billy Sorokin will take the crows on their probable cup run this season.

Unsung Hero

This game between St Louis Scarecrows and the Lethbridge Lions was a low-scoring one. Scarecrows won it 2-0 and effectively shut the Lions out. As i usually do i hand out the award to a player who made a big impact in the dark, not necessarily on the winning team. As a matter of fact i usually give it to someone on the losing side. This time it's nothing different, as i'm giving it to Arsene Arsenich of the Lethbridge Lions. The dude played a huge portion of the game, as well as 3:15 of the PK where the Lions managed to shut St Louis out. He had 3 massive hits as well as 1 blocked shot. Without Arsene the score would've been even more uneven.

Comment 1:

Being Physical:

Lethbridge blocked 12 shots this game, which kept the shots on Nadeau at 28 instead of 40. It was a total team effort, as 8 players blocked at least one shot. Stand outs include Benois Minuscule and Thomas Bathroy, who had 3 blocked shots a piece. Meanwhile, depth players such as Jay Boom ‘Boom, Borvuka Banananak and Joln Dubolk were doing whatever it takes to help the team, throwing their bodies on the line to stop shots. The Lions also were the better team when it came to hits, with the physical Benois Minuscule getting 4, while Arsene Arsenich and Dickens Makeout-King got 3 and 2 respecitevly.

Comment 2:

Power Play Problems or Penalty Kill Kings

A total of 5 penalties were called in the game, and neither team was able to convert any of their chances. Dickens Makeout-King took the first 24 seconds in. Tougard was caught later in the period. Both times, the penalties were easily killed off. DuBolk got caught twice in the second period, while Boomhover was sat for 2 in the third. With big name players such as Jerry Larry and Nicholas Fleming on St. Louis and Donny McMasters and Arsene Arsenich on Lethbridge, both coaches have to be hoping that their power play will start clicking soon, as it will become ever important as the season continues.

Comment 3:

Unsung Hero:

If you look at the score sheet, and follow Donny McMasters name, you’ll find a lot of zeros in his column after tonight’s game. However, as Donny says that is not necessarily a bad thing. He had a 0 +/-, took no penalties, did not take any hits, and even managed to get a shot on net. Perhaps even more amazing is that he led the team in minutes played with 22:07. It becomes even more impressive when you find out that he played an extra 3:15 seconds on the penalty kill. That lead to an astounding 25:22 seconds of ice time tonight. Couple that with a solid defensive performance, and it is hard to ask for much more from your top D-man.
