It’s Parm Night in Halifax!!!!

Ahh Ahh

We’re back here in Nova Scotia for a mid-season showdown between The Lethrbridge Lions and the Halifax Raiders! The stadium is running a promotion buy One get Two Free Parms tonight, it’s a real glutton-fest out there in the stands this evening, sauce and cheese everywhere, but fans are having a great time!

This match up should be a good one. Halifax and Lethrbridge are battling it out for the upper tier of playoff teams and are both right in the thick of things. As they each look to settle into a groove early tonight, this also has a chance to be a high scoring game as both groups have some elite talent on the roster and some budding young stars. We can’t wait to see these teams go head to head. Let’s get to the action!
Here We Go!!!

Towel

Period 1: Halifax comes flying out of the gate, throwing a ton of shots on net, Lions goalie Patrice Nadeau can barely keep his feet the first 2 minutes and the Lions take a penalty. Roughing to Make-Out King as Halifax would get a powerplay. The Raiders control the puck, it was Tobias Viklund passing back and forth at the point before Perry Morgan dishes down low and rookie sensation Joseph Laraque fires a shot from the high slot and it finds the back of the net! It’s a powerplay goal! 1-0 Raiders! Early lead off their hard work and Halifax would soon build on it when Andrej Doskocil rifled one past Nadeua at 6:26 to make it 2-0 Raiders. They seem to be firmly in control in this first period. The Lions would get a few chances but then it was Tobias Viklund sniping one home at 12:24 to put the Raiders out to a big 3-0 lead in the first period. Lethbridge looks lost out there, but it would be a great effort by Eva Lykke Aparjode who would bury a hard working goal at 18:10 to get the Lions on the board. 3-1 to end the 1st period. Halifax with a 16-5 shot advantage in the period.

Code:
1. Halifax Raiders , Joseph Laraque 4 (Perry Morgan 6, Tobias Viklund 2) at 3:32 (PP)
2. Halifax Raiders , Andrej Doskocil 1 (Troy Reynolds 8, Matt Kholin 7) at 6:26
3. Halifax Raiders , Tobias Viklund 8 (Joseph Laraque 9, Mr. Faceoffs 11) at 12:24
4. Lethbridge Lions , Eva Lykke Aparjode 8 (Monkey D. Luffy 9, Donny McMasters 8) at 18:10

Period 2: Back to the action and Lethrbridge will need to dig deep and build on that late 1st period goal if they have any hope of climbing back in this game. Teams would trade chances early in the period until Lions player Austin Roenick unleashed a howitzer which found the top corner at 8:17, making this a 1 goal game. 3-2 Halifax, but Lethbridge is building momentum. Just as the Lions were getting back in this game it was Halifax rookie Josef Kubinec with his fist goal of the year, ripping one past the goalie at 10:17 to put Halifax back up by 2 goals. 4-2 Raiders!  But Wait there’s more! Lethbridge would keep battling and Arsene Arsenich would shovel one home in a crease battle to once again score late in the period making this a 1 goal game! What action! Arsenich from DuBolk and Aparjode and it’s a 4-3 game heading into the 3rd period.  Shots that period were 8-8. Halifax with a 23-14 advantage so far in the game.

Code:
5. Lethbridge Lions , Austin Roenick 2 (Joln DuBolk 9, Roger Baston 6) at 8:17
6. Halifax Raiders , Josef Kubinec 1 (Dominic Montgomery 10, Isaiah Reece 5) at 10:06
7. Lethbridge Lions , Arsene Arsenich 4 (Joln DuBolk 10, Eva Lykke Aparjode 5) at 15:07

3rd Period:  Here we go 20 minutes to play, how is this exciting back and forth match up going to end? Both sides come out skating fast in the 3rd, each with a couple early chances. Then OOHH it would be rookie Josef Kubinec scoring his 2nd of the game and season at 3:48 to put Halifax back front by 2 goals. 5-3 Raiders. Kubinec earning a nickname of Lion killer after this performance.  The goalie would be pulled after that one. Lethbridge coach clearly trying to send a message to his team. Lethbridge in true Lion fashion would respond! They’d come right back to score. It was Jules chocolate E’clair burying a goal at 6:12 to cut the lead to one again! What an effort by the Lions here, they’re making Halifax work for it. The Lions would keep the pressure on, trying to get that elusive tying goal, good shots, good action, good chance for them in the 3rd, but NO! This one would end 5-4 in favor of Halifax! The Raiders win! Shots in that period were 8-3 Lethbridge.

Code:
8. Halifax Raiders , Josef Kubinec 2 (Dominic Montgomery 11) at 3:48
9. Lethbridge Lions , Jules L'Eclair 4 (Boruvka Banananak 3, Cant Eykhil 5) at 6:12

Final Shots were 26-23 in favor of Halifax.

What an exciting game!

Rookie Joseph Kubinec skates the by bench after his 2nd goal of the game.

Game Notes: Halifax came out fast in this one, getting out to a big lead that at the time seemed unsurmountable, but Lethbridge would claw their way back cutting a 2 goal deficit to 1 goal on 3 different occasions. They weren’t able to get the tying goal even with a goalie change in the 3rd. Halifax was able to hang on and get a big win in this one with clutch goals from one of their rookies.

Barn Burner

Boy was this game an offensive shootout. A total of nine goals were scored in this game and goaltending was nowhere to be seen. Seven of these goals were scored in the first and second period, quit the outburst of offense. It's no surprise that one of the goalies was pulled in this game even though it was still a close one in the end. There are no question marks that Mike McKorsky and Patrice Nadeau will be looking back at this game and thinking they both could have played better. A few players were able to hit the multi-point mark in this game but only one player managed a two goal night though...

Unexpected Player of the Game

Josef Kubinac was the real difference maker in this game for the Raiders. If I told you a guy who played under 8 minutes scored two goals you'd probably laugh in my face. But Kubinac is the one laughing in your face tonight. He played a total of 7:50 tonight and scored two goals... TWO GOALS IN 7:50. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. Not only that but he only had four shots on goal, giving him a 50% shooting percentage in the game. This man clearly has Nadeau's number. I doubt in the next meeting between these two teams that Nadeau will be suiting up, bench city for him.

Three Stars

1 - Josef Kubinec (HAL) - Do I need to say more about him? He scored two goals including the game winner in this contest.

2 - Eva Lykke Aparjode (LBL) - Aparjode was a force to be reckoned with for Lethbridge in this game. Contributing a goal and an assist along with a hit, Eva made the best effort possible to keep Lethbridge in it.

3 - Tobias Viklund (HAL) - Viklund put up a goal and an assists for the Raiders in a total of 15:33 of ice time. He was a key cog on the second line with Mr. Faceoffs and Joseph Laraque. Their line combined for five points in this game.
